Photo of 'Good Nick'

"My club [Carrickfergus Sailing club] took this photo at our Pusuit race, which raises money for the RNLI.

The genoa is by De Vries, Dutch Sailmaker, probably about 7 years old, approx 135%, has foam padded luff, heavy cloth, well put together, but a little too full for closehauled sailing in flat water. I have replaced the Mainsail which was by De Vries and much too heavy, [about 9 oz!] flat at the head and very full lower down. The new one is by Hyde, loosefooted, very good shape, easy to adjust and to flatten, as well as to keep the effort in the right place. It has also reduced weather helm that used to build fast when wind speed increased.

Yours sincerely,
Tony"

"I had looked at this photo for a long time before I realised that it was a marvellous advertisement for Carrickfergus and its castle [from where there was a grandstand view of the famous sea battle with John Paul Jones, the last invader of the British mainland! It was taken from the committee boat at the same race as the other photo, although the date mark says otherwise. You and all Nichs will be very welcome in Carrickfergus

Regards,

Tony"

Bill,
I am sorry to say that the moulds have been destroyed, so there will never be any more [unless someone spends a fortune to recreate them]
I hope you noticed the 'pint of guinness' at the stern; there is one awaiting all visitors to Carrickfergus!.
It is the weindvane of my Navik selfsteering; it works well upwind, but needs a greater steering effect downwind, achievable by having a moveable cleating system on the tiller. I have only the original pair of cleats; any suggestions are very welcome.
Tony
