Pictures From Clasico Zapopan: Mexican Soccer Exhibition
Last Sunday night, there was an soccer friendly (exhibition) called the Clasico Zapopan that was held at Bank Of America Stadium. It pitted two Mexican Division I clubs, Tecos and Atlas. And the good folks at Azul Deportes granted me a press pass to shoot on the field:
Tecos had the checkerboard jerseys, while Atlas had the pink socks:
I've shot in arenas (obviously), high school stadiums. I've sat in the stands in Shea Stadium and at Three Rivers Stadium. But the feeling of actually being on the field of an actual stadium and seeing the stands enclosed around you. It was definitely an awe striking experience.

Well i guess from the looks of the attendance, guess there wont be an MLS or MISL team coming to Charlotte anytime soon. I know the Richardsons love the game of soccer, which is why this event has taken place the last 2 years. Be nice to have either or come to Charlotte but I dont see it happening.

Azul Deportes, the organizers of the soccer series (The same two teams played in Nashville the previous Friday) spent a lot promoting the match, and were actually counting on 20,000-30,000 in attendance. this number was based on Charlotte having a huge increase in the Latino population. But unfortunately, they had priced a majority of folks out of the event. Ticket prices started at $35, meaning that a family of four would have had to shell out at least $160.00 (including parking). I was up in the press box at BOA (where the second half photos were taken), and someone up there had confided to myself and a fellow photographer that the prices were set way too high. Hopefully, this setback this won't keep them from coming back next year.
The US Open Cup match between the Charlotte Eagles and MLS team CD Chivas USA up at Davidson College last week sold out with over 2,300 in attendance.
It would be interesting, also, if sometone tried to bring a MLS exhibition to BOA, or maybe having two English Premier teams play a friendly (Warren would go for that).
