Professor Swarbrick - DADA Teacher
Name: Peter Leslie Swarbrick
Age: 30
Other: Defence Against Dark Arts teacher
Description: Peter stands at a tall and slender 6ft3, and has short brown hair with a few natural flecks of blonde. He has sparkling green eyes and is always fairly tanned, with a few freckles scattered across his nose, due to his liking for long hot sunny holidays. Peter wears small square glasses to help his eyes ... he is short-sighted. Peter has a slight Scottish twang to his voice, as he has lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for eight years now and has tended to pick up the local lingo.
He has a few scars on his legs due to an accident as a child ... a vicious dog attacked him, bowling him over, and started scratching and biting at his legs. Peter has been afraid of big dogs ever since, and never really trusts them ... or many other animals, believing them all to be unpredictable and potentially vicious. The only exception is the cat his mother owns .... he knows this cat too well to distrust it. Luckily the scars cannot be seen easily, due to Peter’s usual deep tan.
Peter tends to wear a mix of wizard robes and Muggle clothes .... he wears his robes to classes, and smart occasions (much like a Muggle suit) but tends to wear Muggle casual clothes when ‘off-duty’. He is generally comfortable with his body, and keeps quite fit by jogging and swimming. He is starting to get a little worried about wrinkles when he smiles, but is generally not too bothered.
Personality: Peter has a pretty laid back personality, especially when it comes to tidiness. Being one of the youngest Professors at Hogwarts means that he will often get moaned at for leaving the Staff Lounge in a mess ..... His classroom is normally pretty tidy for his students, but beware when you open a cupboard as you may get attacked by random objects falling out.
Peter will always try to teach his classes in a firm but fair manner. Having worked with older students for the past few years, he expects respect and is finding it hard to readjust to teaching pupils who do not want to be there. He expects commitment in class - after all, there are some difficult and dangerous spells being used, with a high risk factor.
Meet Peter outside of the classroom though, and you could be forgiven for thinking he is one of the students, with his youthful looks, casual clothes and easy going manner.
Likes: Potions, DADA, Charms, respectful students, jogging, swimming, Muggle clothes, Edinburgh, humour
Dislikes: Dogs (his biggest phobia), flying in Muggle planes, students who think they ‘know it all’
Family History: Peter was born to a Muggle and a Witch, Frank and Lucy Swarbrick, and has a younger sister, Rebecca, who is 24. He was born in London, and grew up there, attending a small wizarding school in London whilst living at home, then going on to university. He has eight years teaching experience at an Edinburgh school after qualifying from university with a joint degree in Potions and DADA. Peter had decided to get away from the claustrophobic atmosphere of London, and moved up to Scotland’s capital city. He has loved his time in Edinburgh, and still has a flat there where he lives in the holidays from teaching. He has picked up a little of the local language, and his accent has a slight twang, although still being predominantly English.
Peter is very close to his sister, Rebecca, despite the six year age gap. He feels he can tell her anything. He also has a close group of friends and colleagues in Edinburgh .. and students too. He taught Defence Against the Dark Arts to young adults from the ages of 16 to 19 in a ‘college’ environment, and found many of the female students making unwanted advances. Peter found this strange, having grown up in a fairly sheltered environment, and not realising that he is actually quite a good looking guy.
He took the job at Hogwarts as he was made redundant from the Edinburgh school ... a larger wizarding college opened nearby, and the college lost a lot of its’ new intake. Peter was sad to leave the city, friends and students, but was hoping that a new start could be good for him. He loves the more laid-back atmosphere of Scotland in comparison to hectic London.
Social History: Peter has not yet met any of the students, though he has been warned about the Marauders by several other teachers!
