Remus Jonathan Lupin - Seventh Year
Name: Remus Jonathan Lupin - Moony to the other Marauders
Age: 17 (Birthday 13/09/1960)
Year: 7th
House: Gryffindor
Other: Prefect and ... unknown to anyone but the Marauders, a werewolf
Description: Remus is about average height, rather skinny, with light brown hair that roughly goes down to about his neck. Despite his young age, he already has a few streaks of silver in his hair. He has clear grey eyes. He has many scars criscrossing his body, especially in the chest area, and is very sensitive about showing these scars. They have been accumulated from years of turning into a werewolf every full moon and biting and scratching himself as he had no prey. He has gained very few scars over the last few years as he has a distraction every full moon by the Marauders. Remus mainly wears wizard robes at school, but outside of school likes to chill out in comfortable clothes. He is not one to follow fashions.
Personality: Remus is often thought of as a quiet boy, and is himself quite shy when it comes to talking about personal matters, especially around the opposite sex. His condition causes him to have wolf-like thoughts and he will therefore choose one partner for life. Even kissing is a little taboo for Remus, and he often feels uncomfortable talking to, or flirting with girls (plus Sirius and James tend to steal all the pretty ones!). He is a gentleman, and always very calm, polite and composed. You could even say he has many friends among the student population ... from an outsider's point of view. Remus himself always holds back just a small part of his personality, containing his emotions and even mannerisms for fear of revealing the inner wolf.
However, put him with the other Marauders for an afternoon and you'll see his wilder and louder side, when his carefully constructed boundaries usually crumble. He is often thought of as the 'good' one out of the Marauders, and tries to keep his friends out of trouble. He is sensible, especially when it comes to responsibilities ... but his fun side can usually be easily persuaded to submerge his conscience if the other boys get involved.
Likes: Chocolate, his friends, Defence Against the Dark Arts, books about magical creatures (particularly werewolves…), and thinking before taking action.
Dislikes: A full moon, narrow-minded people, having to admit the truth to others, and he still won’t admit to hating Snape – only that he’s unpleasant.
Family History: Remus is a halfblood (wizard father, Muggle mother). Jonathan Lupin graduated from Hogwarts with a keen interest in Herbology, but couldn't find a job ... all the positions wanted more hands-on experience with plants, so Jonathan took a summer job as a gardener for an upper-class Muggle family. While working there, he met Gillian Dearkins, the daughter of his boss, and fell in love with her. They had to keep it very quiet - Jonathan was of a much lower status than Gillian, and her father would not have been pleased. However, Jonathan still had a secret to share with Gillian - the real reason all the flowers had such large and pretty blooms on them was because he 'helped' them along with his Herbology training.
Jonathan told Gillian one night when they were sitting under the bower in the garden of his dreams. He wanted to set up a business raising and selling plants, mixing ointments and magical potions. Gillian frowned at the 'potions' part. 'What kind of potions?' she had asked, a quizzical look on her face.
So Jonathan explained, watching her face carefully. Gillian was an open-minded kind of person, and spent the rest of the time they had together asking questions, and hoping she wasn't hallucinating. What Jonathan outlined seemed to make a kind of sense - she could see where it would fit with the world.
Two years later, Remus was born. Jonathan and Gillian's business was becoming more successful, although it was only just making a profit. Gillian had had some training from Jonathan about some basic Herbology, and had found she was fascinated with the subject.
Remus was bitten by a werewolf at the age of five, but how he's older and he can deal with his transformations better, his family has been able to settle down in a small cottage outside a village. They've got a huge garden that backs onto woods,
greenhouses full of thriving plants and a small shack in the forest for Remus' transformations.
When Remus turned eleven, Dumbledore allowed him to attend Hogwarts with certain precautions in the form of the Whomping Willow and Shrieking Shack. Remus went and befriended James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. They continued in their mischievous doings with Remus, eventually becoming illegal Animagi in their
fifth year to help their friend.
Social History: Remus is always polite and courteous, but he does not consider many people to be his true 'friends' except the Marauders. He does not trust people so easily since his fifth year when a girl he trusted with his secret reacted badly to it. A further dent in his friendship with the group came in the form of the Prank at the end of sixth year. Severus annoyed Sirius by insulting him, finally moving onto insulting Remus. Sirius snapped, being a loyal friend to Remus (at least in his eyes) and retaliated by basically daring Severus to go to the Whomping Willow, follow the passage under there and he would find out what was 'wrong' with Remus, and what the Marauders had been up to, sneaking around all year. Severus needles Sirius a little more, and Sirius reveals he needs to only poke the knot on the tree with a stick and he's inside.
Sirius heads off to the Gryffindor Common Room and brags to James that now Severus was going to get what he deserved - a live werewolf at the end of the tunnel under the Willow. James realises the gravity of the situation and orders Sirius off to fetch Dumbledore while he goes to save Severus from potential disaster. He pulls Severus back, but not before he's caught a glimpse of the werewolf at the end of the tunnel. Remus' secret is revealed to Severus, and although Dumbledore warns Severus not to tell anyone, he eventually does in later years, after they are out of school.
Remus feels betrayed severely by Sirius, and their relationship has never been the same. He feels more of a hatred, mixed with wariness, for Severus - he knows his secret, so must be treated with a certain amount of caution.

Patronus, Dementors, Boggarts, Animagus and Erised:
Patronus
Remus' patronus would be a wolf, because a lot of his personality is simply because he has to deal with the wolf, and his strength (physical and mental) also comes from
the wolf, despite the negative factors of being a werewolf. The happy memory that would conjure it would be meeting his friends at Hogwarts for the first time, or perhaps the love and support that his parents showed him when they found out he was a werewolf.
Dementors
The Dementors would bring some very unhappy memories back to Remus. His main memory would be the night he was bitten by Greyback, and how much his parents worried on the
night in question. However, he would also recall some particularly painful transformations and the bullying and embarrassment he received when Snapefound out about his condition after the Prank.
Boggarts
Remus' Boggart is a full moon, because he loathes the 'time of the month'. Remus turns this into a beetle to banish it.
Animagus
Well, Remus doesn't need to turn into an animagus, because he already has his 'animal' inside him, but if he did, he would be a wolf. These wolf-like characteristics can be seen in Remus' tendency to be shy and solitary without the Marauders - he lacks his Pack.
Erised
Remus would see himself cured of his condition.
