I applied for access to this board because there were some topics I wanted to contribute to. However I was denied and given no explanation. I'm not annoyed or anything, these things happen, it just has me thinking.
I hope that it was just because my profile wasn't fully filled out because any other reason would just be stupid. I'm no threat to them, in fact I think I'd be a valuable contributor.
But I take issue with being rejected over an incomplete profile anyway, if I excluded any information then it was because it was private and if I don't want it revealed then that doesn't make me unsuitable for a few discussions with a few satanists, it just makes me someone who values my privacy. (To be fair, in all honesty I can't remember what I filled out, but they have my e-mail address and that isn't on my user profile here, so I must have filled in something separate).
And is this really the best way to keep assholes away? If they let someone on who turns out to be a shitstirrer or just generally of no merit or value whatsoever then they could block them, and anyway they have my e-mail address. That should be enough.
This smacks of elitism. I notice that Nephele isn't there anymore because (they say) she didn't agree with their anti-christian policy. I have to agree with her there.
I hope we never develop such a system. They have their reasons I'm sure but I don't think their methods are very good. I believe in free speech because it allows US to do and say what we want and really it's all we have on our side. So I don't think we have the right to deny others (unless they are just being provocative for the sake of it and aren't contributing, just stirring things up and spamming).
I don't know, perhaps I've read this wrong, do any of you have access, and what do you think? Have I got the wrong end of the stick?
This is not to turn into a backstabbing session, they have the right to do with their forum whatever they choose and my intention is not to discredit them or be nasty about them or form an anti-SatanismUK group! Just give me your perspective if you have one.
Do you think their methods are right, in the sense of, should we have them too? Have they been forced into this through bad experiences and this is the best way to handle it?
Personally I'm just inclined to think that when someone like me gets excluded (ie. someone who will cause them no difficulty) then their methods are less than spot on and as I said I have a problem with denying others the right we depend upon.
I am registered with SatanismUK although I havn't visited the message board for a long long time and if that is now their policy, I wont be going back.

I used to be a member of that board and it used to throw up some good discussions. However when Nephele left it fell completely into the hands of Donna Black and her fiance Helnock. They are hard line members of the CoS. I sent a message to Donna asking why I was no longer welcome on the S-UK board and she replied stating that she wanted the board to have a strictly CoS focus. Not so much satanism UK more CoS UK.
Its a shame since I've met members of that board at the London Satanist meetings and we all got on quite well sharing each others points of view in an intelligent civilised manner. It seems Ms Black is not an advocate of unity but one of those 'I have a red laminated card therefore I shall proceed to place my head up my arse' types. Thankfully not all CoS members are like this but it seems many online CoS members are doing the same.

My knee-jerk reaction to this is 'what bollocks'.
What do they have to achieve by shutting themselves off from anyone let alone other satanists?
I fully understand why we need certain measures in place to cut down on the troll-factor but this is just ridiculous.
But if this is what they want then they are welcome to their little club, and I'm pretty happy to be excluded from it.
How much deeper is this hole they've crawled into going to get? Until they alienate everyone but a small 'elite' group? I don't feel any need at all to build little walls around myself, I feel pretty confident that what I have to say is honest and comes from the heart and that I will be able to meet any challenge that arises and have the balls to admit if and when I'm wrong. This is a real shame because it would probably be a really cool board if it weren't for these unnecessarily stringent (and somewhat defensive) measures.
Oh well.

Yeah the board was pretty cool. Like I said I met a few of the guys from there.
The trouble with a lot of these CoS members is that they are really into elitism. They believe that LaVeyan satanism and the CoS are the ONLY acceptable forms of satanism.
As I've said before if you want to live in your own little elitist world then thats all fine and dandy but you'll end yup swamped in filth before you know it.

I can't help thinking that a point is being missed by this kind of thinking.
Elitism is arrogance, arrogance goes hand in hand with pretensiousness, pretensiousness feeds off insecurity, insecurity is weakness.

I don't have a problem with the CoS because I haven't had enough experiences with them to form a judgement.
However in another one of my trainspotter moments the lyrics to Marilyn Manson's 'Bright Young Things' from his latest album really caught my attention.
It sounds like he has mixed feelings over something or someone, the predominant emotion being disillusionment and disappointment. Now I know song lyrics and poetry are usually about lots of different things in one, and I'm not arrogant enough to proclaim that I've cracked some sort of code which as given me insight into MM's mind, but by my understanding it possibly bears quite a lot of relevance to what we're discussing here.
Do you know what I'm getting at?

The problem is that Satanism started with Anton LaVey, and the CoS will always believe they are the ONLY authority on Satansim because they represent him. Evolution is a natural process, but the CoS don't want to lose their grip on their founders creation.
Not to credit LaVey is folly - but to follow his every word (including tongue in cheek statements!) is even worse. I hope they'll soon learn...

Just thought I'd add something;
Donna ain't so bad - she has her beliefs, and we have ours. It all depends on what the message forum is for. I don't think it's elitism, I just don't think they want all the trolls that continually appear on boards all over the place. Yeah, you can block them but prevention is always better than cure.

I don't know Donna so I couldn't make a judgement but it is CoS only so I don't know what else other than elitism you could call it. I mean some of the people who were kicked off the board were NOT trolls.

It's not CoS only - they allowed me access, knowing my affiliation (now posthumous) with The Satanic Alliance. All they said was "when in anothers lair, show him respect or else do not go there". I can post my opinion frankly and fairly, and not get banned so I reckon most others can too. Hell, I'm a Social Satanist - a term they find totally abhorrent!

That's odd. It doesn't matter anyway because I'm not bothered about not being allowed, I just thoguht the whole thing was petty.
I'm doing fine, thanks for asking. I have been accepted for the Master's degree course in Anthropology which I really wanted and presently I'm visiting my sisters in Edinburgh. I'm taking the time to eye up some property because I want to move here after the course is done.
But I'm in an interenet cafe so I must be brief.
Many congratulations on getting onto your Masters degree. I hope it all goes well for as I'm sure it will.

Aw cheers. I'm really itching to get back to studying.
You, on the other hand, I imagine, have had enough to last a lifetime!
But if you haven't, you said something, I remember, about having an interest in parapsychological studies. I think the Edinburgh Uni school is the leading one for that type of research in the UK. You should go to Edinburgh too, then we can both study ghosthunters as a joint project - I'll do the cognitive anthropology, you do the parapsychology! Hooray!

I didn't know you lived in Edinburgh. I'm back in Belfast again so it's a shame I'm only finding out now. I make a point of trying to hook up with the people on this board if I'm ever anywhere near them.
My sisters live there and as I said I want to move there asap so this bodes well.
Where do you hang out in Edinburgh? What pubs or clubs? I think I spent most of the past week in Whistle Binkies!
