School Dress Code
How do you feel about BCISD's Dress Code? Post your opinions pro and con here. I have a feeling the cons will far outnumber the pros.
Re: School Dress Code
No, there are no changes from last year. I know from my children and many others (moms included) that EVERYONE hates the rule about tucking in all shirts and blouses. The latest fashions don't always allow enough fabric for tucking, and let's face it - not everyone has the figure for it, either. While we all know school should not be a fashion show, the kids still want to look nice. Another thing that annoys me about all this is that some (not all) of the teachers find it necessary to stand in the halls and watch for dress code violations. Couldn't they find something more productive to do than write-up good kids?
Re: School Dress Code
i dont like being told i have to wear a seat belt in my car either, but its a rule n i should abide by it. if you or a kid doesnt like the school dress code then there are ways of trying to get them changed;i.e. schoolboard meetings, petitions, etc., otherwise, follow the rules!
It's Stupid
In my lifetime, I have been to eight schools, and I must say, this one has the absolute WORST dress code. By having such a ridiculous thing in the first place, we are denied our creativity, and our rights to express ourselves. Also, the principal seems to believe that he is allowed to make up rules on the spot if he is displeased with the clothing students wear. Being a Gothic kid, you get used to knowing every single rule, this way, they cannot discriminate against us quite so much, for we know how to fight. I read the dress code, memorized it in fact, and nowhere in my rule book does it say we cannot wear spikey collars. Did we believe that these collars were sharp enough to do damage, we would undoubtably have the common sence to NOT wear them, to ensure that we could escape calling home. However, if caught with one, the principal not only writes you up, but also confiscates expensive jewelry. This is common theft on his part. Also, we cannot dye our hair. I am an eighth grader. I've had my hair dyed strange colors since I was a sixth grader. I moved down here, and my entire look, my look I have been cultivating since sixth grade, is no longer allowed. I must also point out, that nowhere in the school rule book is there a single passage about boys not painting their fingernails black. The principal has deemed it 'distracting'. I was the only brave one, I went to him in the cafeteria, and I told him that to say such is sexual discrimination. He replied to me that unless I stepped out of the conversation, I would be written up for dress code violation. I was within dress code(I shall admit, my shirt was untucked at the end of the day, but at lunchtime, I was fully within dresscode) This means that apparently, the principal also believes himself allowed to write children up for things they never did.
