Shadowbane, a bunch of amatures?
I must say I'm confused about this game. On first look, it appears to be the next generation of MMRPGs. Then, I took a look at the screenshots and .. well they aren't too hot (www.shadowbane.com/screen...0002.jpg).

And then I found myself in the beta section (www.shadowbane.com/sacrifice.html), and what do I see... here is a direct quote from the site "Do us a favor would you? Try not to compare us to UO-- we don't even like the game".

When did gaming companies started trashing each other? And on their main page? hmmm.

Then again, they do get some positive press releases, and they now have a new programmer that worked for Turbine.

I dont think that expressing this much attitude is a good thing for a PR person. Personally I found it a little alienating..

They are new, with an attitude. I think it's great!

I'll just wait and see how it turns out, the game sounds fun enough I suppose, except that EVERY SINGLE @#%$ I've ever met on EQ or UO is drooling over the game...sigh.
I don't think the team is any more 'amateur' than the EQ team was when it started though, although Wolfpack certainly seems a bit less mature and isn't picking up into a real company it sounds like as fast as Verant did. I mean, hearing that kinda thing back when EQ ogres looked like big ugly gorillas (years and years ago) wouldn't have bugged me, but since Shadowbane is claimed to be near the beta (I think, haven't read up on it in a LOONG time)...

A lack of maturity in a online rpg is a bad idea, well at least from the Moderators/Gm/Dm/whatevers. A lack of maturity will lead to "nerfing" the likes of which even eq has never seen. Ie item removals, skill removal, and player wipes. At least when eq has a problem with an item they either change the item to something more appropriate (generally a small change), replace the item (but leave the ones people have as the original one), or suck it up and leave it in. A less mature person in control would most likely make less intelligent decisions. The best case scenario: The person who wrote about UO isnt in charge of jack, or has been fired.

I doubt I will play this game much, if at all.

I doubt any game company can remove the asshole factor (rampant in UO) in any game where PKing is condoned, no matter what types of penalties they put in place for PKers.

Re: Shadowbane, a bunch of amatures?
Have you guys seen the original beta testing .mov's for EQ ... compare the two beta's and then see which one you think is graphically superior ... the ogre running through HHP fighting orcs is laughable for the EQ beta release =) .... but you'll have to look them up for yourselves ... you won't recognize the game ... SB I feel will be the same ... they have already made huge advancements since the phase one beta, and new cleaner graphics are being introduced weekly in pohase 2 ... and we won't have a "real" spell efects until phase 3 =). When was the last time one of your characters in EQ did a backflip to dodge an incoming attack ... or chose a perfect kata combo to slay a creature =) ... but like i said wait till it comes out to make your final decision =) take care

I haved been able dl the beta for it yet but i did watch the demo movie and from that it looks a little to much like Diablo to me. There Ideas are sound but we all know how quickly that goes down the drain.

I think the biggest contribution Shadowbane will make to the MMORPG community is it'll track all the worst griefers leaving fewer in other games.

But there's no way I'll ever get it.
