Shake it up
Sure wish this album was more carefully mastered (in the mastering studio). The mix should have been tighter as well.
It is a shame to have musicians working so hard, and for so many of the sounds and vibes to be setting back so far in the mix.
Example:
Track 7 The guitar work left of center...it is just way back there, so are the bells right of center. The hats and cabasa are good, but the bells are just so far back...Don't know how a bell, a percussion instrument could be that far back. Even the congas are louder.
Track 4 could have used more body on the keys. Left hats were not as full as the right hats. Upper cowbell is so much louder than the lower on the left channel.
Track 3 is closer, but highs on the left channel, tamborine is just not fat...just a chink sound...way back...no decay.
Track 8...What happened to the tamborine on the left channel, and after the intro, the kick has no bottom...just the 808. man if that tamb was up just a shade on the left...we would be vibing! Not near as nice as the hat work on the right...these should balance...Sustain on the keys, and body would fill this track in nicely...Bass guitar could be up a shade as well.
Track 9, bells are finally in the mix. Hat toward the left of center is just too low. Boney's sax could have been fluffyer to contrast the horn...not the performance...but the mix..
Kick on track 10 is correct.
Was this mixed rushed?
I sure wish I could do a redux on it.
Some very fat playing (PHAT!) but the mix sounds like something I would put up for a demo.
Some of this could have been change in mastering...but you got to admit...technically, this needs to be revisited...mix wise.
