Sitchin rant
The Sitchin rant V3.1
Credentials
He was raised in Palestine so he probably knows a little Arabic and modern Hebrew. He got a degree in economic history from U of London and then after working as a journalist in Israel he moved to New York. As you can see with a Resume like that he can’t help but to know Cuneiform like no other. And I mean NO other, nobody else who translates can duplicate his translations. Nobody else even comes close. To his translations I mean most of the others tend to come close to each other.

Everyone loves a mystery though and Sitchin comes up with mysteries that previously didn’t exist and cleverly solves it. This makes it seem as though he’s a visionary rather than simply being an idiot. The scientific community considers him a walking comedy routine so could care less.

Hebrew Translations
We can assume that he is able to speak and write modern Hebrew. This is a far cry from understanding it’s ancient counterpart. He however has managed to twist ancient Hebrew in ways that confound historians and most Jewish scholars. The problem is though that he doesn’t tell us exactly where in the ancient texts he gets the stuff that he is mangling. It’s enough to make you cry.

The most common example is the word Eloheim. In modern Hebrew this means Yhwh or Jehovah. In ancient Hebrew the word means Gods or many gods, but that’s ONLY if taken out of context. You need to take the grammar into account when translating ancient Hebrew. (That’s why I leave that to the experts.) if you take the grammar into account you can see that it is taken in the singular and that it is more of a proper name. This name indicates that it should actually refer to the Semitic deity El or the Sumerian Deity Anu. (Anu would be that guy that created the universe but doesn’t take much of an active part in ruling it. He was the patron deity of a bunch of Semites who departed from the city of Ur and ended up forgetting about most of the rest of their gods.)

Sumerian Translations
He doesn’t actually read cuneiform he simply plays up the fact that there are translation differences in the field. What many people don’t realize is that in any given document the experts will disagree on one or two words. Sitchin will only agree with one or two words in the entire document and even then it is a fluke.

Looking at his claim that only he can truly translate the cuneiform you might again be convinced, but again we have trouble. The Sumerians invented the organized classroom. They left guides to understanding cuneiform. This means that Sitchin is also disagreeing with the Sumerians own definitions of words as listed in their own dictionaries.

The flying disks
In many Sumerian pieces of post Sargonic art the gods are portrayed as completely non human. Circles of light and symbols are used to replace the more standard images. This was an artistic style in late Sumer. Sitchin claims that these were alien spacecraft. They look a little like UFOs if circle means UFO and not sun or moon or even circle. But what matters is that the Raelians believe him and that makes all the difference now doesn’t it?

Lets pretend he’s correct for a second. What must have happened? The aliens visited ancient Sumer and were portrayed in a human like form, thousands of years later the Akkadians realized that these were actually not shaped like people, but rather they were shaped like glowing disks. (Glowing disks that rise in the east and set in the west usually.) Or perhaps it’s just the sun. The Sumerians had a sun god after all. (Legalistic guy, liked horses, not particularly popular with the ladies.)

Genetic engineering
He’s also the source of the nut ball idea that the ancient Sumerians were genetically engineered. Humans from 450,000 years ago. (Give or take 2000 years, BC and the word Ago seem to be the same thing to him. You even get to see Abraham round about 3000 years ago. Jesus was born right about ~looks at watch~ now.)

Anyhow, he throws away the theory of evolution saying it was the people from nibiru who did it. they supposedly did this by engineering female apes. That’s a neat trick because the fossil record would like to beat him upside the cranium.

Astronomy
You’d think that an advanced group of aliens would know a little about the nature of the solar system. Unfortunately they don’t these aliens make a big deal about the distance from the sun causing winter on the planet and perfectly circular orbits. They do not know much about axial tilts or elliptical orbits.

Nibiru is supposed to be heated from within by radioactive decay. As such the planet would have critical mass and quantum tunneling issues. It would show up on astronomical scans and be known as planet glowing beacon. It would be the bane of radio astronomers as it would be inescapable for a good portion of the year as the loudest object in the night sky.

But lets just say that the astronomers haven’t noticed that because they don’t have Sitchin vision. Let us imagine that this planet is real and headed straight for us. This brings me to the Nemesis theory.

Nemesis theory and nibiru
There is actually an astronomical theory that says that we do indeed have another body orbiting the sun along with us. That theory was meant to explain the periods of nearly regular extinction on the earth every hundred million years or so. In the nemesis theory that body travels in an eccentric orbit and is made up of dark mater (in this case a small burn out star, but that isn’t the point A planet would work too, you would just have to cut the orbiting distance and the period.)

Were there a huge hunk of radioactive metal headed towards us then the first thing we would notice would be the earthquakes. The gravitational pull of such an object flying in close would be enormous. Entire continents would be rendered uninhabitable by the radioactive bath. Then the radioactive space aliens come down and say hi and then go away.

As they depart the shower of asteroids would hit our planet and kill most of the remaining life on the planet. There would be a period of nuclear winter and then small mammals and insects might emerge.

But what do I know I’m just a physicist. Perhaps the inhabitants of Nibiru (Ni-brewers) are so smart the normal laws of radioactivity and gravity don’t work on them.

Sitchen Rant 3.2
This is an addendum on the 3.1 rant. More of a patch than an actual new edition of the rant:

Adam the test tube baby
Let us pretend for a second in our study of ancient Sumer that Ancient Sumer doesn’t exist. In its place is the biblical genesis. From this context we can say that the Sumerians believed that adam was the first man and that there are no texts that disagree with this. We can prove this scientificly by first stating that science doesn’t exist and that all historical and mythical sources including ones that mention Adam are incorrect. Ouch that hurt, I have to stop.

The story of Adam and Eve was taken from the earlier Sumerian tale where Enki and Ninhursag Look it up and take note of what happens to Enki’s rib and the troubles of eating fruit you really shouldn’t. I’m going to look up some aspirin.

Erik Parker
Not quite as scholarly as his marvel counter part Erik man is the mysterious creature of the night that attempts to weave the web for Mr. Sitchin. That’s right he’s Sitchin’s Webmaster. He is also the only person who really attempts to defend Sitchin in open debate. He concentrates his arguments on ancient Hebrew. (A language he is completely unfamiliar with.)

Sumerian UFOs
I can’t disprove the idea that the Sumerians were visited by UFOs. I highly doubt it, but it’s like disproving a religion. Where there is no evidence you can’t prove anything. Fortunately I don’t have to. Sumerian UFO guys are on my side. They think Sitchin is a complete unscholarly idiot.

I hate to say that these guys are scholarly, but to be honest they are. They try to be scientific in general and they try to convince with logical arguments. I am not persuaded by these arguments, but they are logical. They know that there is no connection between the word Nibiru and a mythical planet.

Sumerian Astronomy
…Sucked. They weren’t all that great at Astrology either. They fathered Astrology, but it was their descendants who really made the Zodiac come into its own. What we have now is the Greek take on the zodiac.

As far as the stars go they only identified a few in their texts. The stars were used in conjunction with art, but the Sumerians didn’t really have much in the way of star maps. (Or rockets, computers and space stations.)

Nephilim
This word means those who have fallen as far as I can tell. The word isn’t even Hebrew it’s an Aramaic word found in the book of Enoch. It is not an alien reference and it is old but not as old as Sitchin thinks it is. I have no problem with the book of Enoch. It’s not Sumerian and it’s not from that time period though.

Re: Sitchin rant
I haven't visited here in awhile, so this is the first time I've seen your rant. Well done!

I think that people like Sitchin, those who believe that the human race was engineered by aliens, that all of our greatest accomplishments were made with the help or direction of aliens, and that our gods were originally aliens, are projecting their deep-seated self-esteem problems onto the entire species. They doubt their own ability to achieve or imagine, so they decide that no human can achieve or imagine on their own.

Seriously- why is it so hard for these people to believe that humans did these things themselves? Built the pyramids, formulated astronomy, sailed the oceans, developed language, etc? I think it's because they are very sad, small people.

Re: Sitchin rant
I agree with this rant, and any other like it you can find. People like Von Daniken and Stichin are--in short--belittling our anscestors by claiming they weren't intelligent enough to accomplish the things they did.
Minor accomplishments like inventing agriculture, technological crafts, literature, music, and poetry.

The funny part of it is that "chariots of the gods" is a reprise of the ancient Greek/ Latin dramatic idea of 'machine ex deus:' machinery of the gods.

One used this when you couldn't think of a way to resolve the storyline, so you just popped a few gods into the play to wrap everything up.

And I'll wrap it up here.

Re: Sitchin rant
[sigh] Oh my,

This site and board was so beloved for so long and now it is fairly dusty and deserted :( . Our intrepid Lishtar has been away for so long I do pray she is recovering, although it would seem that not much has improved in the past four years.

Frank, please tell us I'm wrong!!

In any event, I wanted to thank you Saharda for your rant. It seems too many new agey/pagans want their spirituality pre-chopped and digested for them and thus they end up believing just about anything. They love to play with energy, but oh Gods... the mess they leave, and they don't know how to ground themselves afterwards. Ickkkkk.

I just was thinking about our site and came by for a visit (egads... but you have to wade through about ten pages of "offers" before you can actually get here now).

Love, peace & bliss to all,
Melissa / ShamhatinTraining

Buddha's and Mohammed's final words.

It is said that the last words of both The Buddha and The Prophet Mohammed were "Work out your own salvation."

Basically, this means that one has to participate in one's salvation, not wait for some cosmic entity to get around to micromanaging ones fate in this life or any other, or to charge up some battery like you charge up a cell phone.

Yup, it's hard work and there's no signposts on this road. "If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, then Mohammed will go to the mountain." This takes effort. In fact, there may not even be a path since no one has travel throught the forest before you and none will follow.

It's an act of will at the same time as being an act of faith. There is a destination and one must make their way somehow without a light to follow....one must become the light.

To extend ShamhatIn Training's metaphore about consuming pre-digested beliefs, think of the futility of consuming pre-digested food. There is no nutrition in doing so, no "right livelihood."

As my brother pointed out, one should choose to love life, not to love death (which he terms "necrophilia." )
