Slowly Falling
Slowly Falling
Cut black tea leaves, slowly falling
Into the boiling water of life,
Read between the lines and see
A heart that’s full of strife.
Steam is rising from the kettle
How much can one man yield,
The sun is mounting in the east
As birds take flight in the field.
People with their heads hung low
Walk quietly down the street,
Too ashamed to show their face
For fear that they might meet
A cold and lonely part of life
Which surely must exist,
Where all desires of true love
Have far too long been missed.
Echoes of a dying youth
That remind us of our age,
Signal the impending doom
And fill our hearts with rage.
Waters that have not been tested
Or brought to fermentation,
Reveal a certain lack of trust
With youthful experimentation.
Memories of forgotten dreams
That keep within our mind,
Hide a secret part of us
Which at times is hard to find.
We can’t begin to understand
What lies within our past,
Until we start to make amends
And right our wrongs at last.

Choices that we make in life
No doubt lead to an end,
Changing what the future holds
For us around the bend.
Darkness falls upon the soul
Like night falls on a meadow,
It often happens very fast
But sometimes the pain is slow.
