I first wasn't thrilled at the idea of a darkness spell on the epic, but since getting it back in May, I have become one with it. I use the click effect since it is a manaless snare/ dot. Very handy fighting mobs in Velious, For instance, I can solo several wyverns (one at a time) in Cobalt scar before needing to med by simply, clicking epic to snare them and then casting splurt and fear kiting with pet. Not as extravagant as wizzies quad kiting but at least I don't have to med after every 1 or 2 mobs, also helps in grps to save mana on other classes from casting snare.
Downfall-> it is resistable, Any creature with a decent MR will resist, I am lvl 52 and I get it to stick to about 70% of the mobs I fight that are blue and the % goes down as the lvl of the mob is above me.

cleric epic is a 49 rez . . .
my druid epic take 3 min to take 1600 dmg . . . my lvl 44 dot does 1800 in 3 min (without a snare of course)
So not all epics are lvl 56 effects, so relax its still a good effect . . . though I think they should come up with a better one, I do agree with that.

Don't be so quick to say the epic sucks
Before I get to the actual effect, lets take a look at the weapons other stats.
The weapon has a high damage with an acceptable delay. It’s primary only, but with +20 intelligence, and the now removed intelligence cap this is an item you’ll never want to put into a bag.
Next, you have the effect, a 49th level spell. Now, for those of you who are merely parrots and constantly spout the tired old line, “It’s a 49th level effect, it SUCKS!” please log into EQ and delete your Necromancer because you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. If you already have epic pieces that are tradable, please give them to me before deleting yourself because you don’t deserve them.
1. The epic gives you a good spell that you WILL be casting.
2. The epic gives you a 0 mana DOT and snare.
3. The epic frees up a memorization slot for another spell.
4. The epic saves you 300 points of mana each time you use the effect.
5. The epic gives you far less downtime when multi-kiting monsters because you don’t need to cast as many spells.

Done my Epic during my lvl 59. I love my Epic and will never change it for any ToV Staff...
But effect sucks ! While soloting, Epic and Velketor's Bracer i am only using mana to root and never had to med with Lifetap and Lich line spell. But All other Epic have a 56 Spell on them and our is the incredible good 49 snare / dot spell.
Why ?? Druid Epic do a 1650 dot / Snare and last a little bit longer then our Necro Epic but the Torment of shadows always overwrite the Druid one, cant understand.
I dont want a too much powerful Effect on my Epic, but just one that could match with other powerful Epic spells...
