Re: Terahertz technology
I assume it should be sooner than 3 years... although that muhc power in a Pc isnt even necessery....
There is also great talk of Terabytes which would also be rather pointless in a Pc but still very intresting to have and utilise..

Re: Terahertz technology
is a terahertz processor actually possible given current methods of producing processors? i think the level of miniaturization required would be too great..after all there will eventually come a time when we cant shrink a transistor any further

Re: Terahertz technology
It certainly is possible but I imagine some serious advancements are needed if it will be created. I have heard lots of people talking about its possibilitys and where we stand with it, even my IT teacher beleives we should be seeing it fairly soon and he's an idiot! (well for a teacher anyway)

Re: Terahertz technology
screw the THz cpu. as speeds get higher, efficiency gets lower. that's why a 1.3GHz cpu isn't really ten times faster than a 133MHz in real world performance. What we need are clockless processors.

Re: Terahertz technology
There are so many factors about computer performance that need to be improved instead of the always increasing cpu speeds..What we need are solid state hard drives or the like because the hard drive is a major bottleneck, and that's why scsi is so awsome.

Re: Terahertz technology
Dont Know about terehertz but have a butchers at this

Quote:
Israeli scientists have devised a computer that can perform 330 trillion operations per second, more than 100,000 times the speed of the fastest PC. The secret: It runs on DNA.

A year ago, researchers from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, unveiled a programmable molecular computing machine composed of enzymes and DNA molecules instead of silicon microchips. Now the team has gone one step further. In the new device, the single DNA molecule that provides the computer with the input data also provides all the necessary fuel.

The design is considered a giant step in DNA computing. The Guinness World Records last week recognized the computer as "the smallest biological computing device" ever constructed. DNA computing is in its infancy, and its implications are only beginning to be explored. But it could transform the future of computers, especially in pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.
