The Bebop discussion that interests me *SPOILERS*
The question on whether or not Spike is dead is pretty much answer, cept those that are wishful thinkers.
The question here is, was he really alive?
Most of you have read my various arguments in the RFB pt2 threads.
For those that haven't:
My belief is that Spike and the others are already dead. The world they live in being a purgatory for those living in the past. The key thing to remember is all of thier current lives began with various events happening near a point 3 years before the end. So, here's my list of causes of death and their respective ways to escape purgatory and move on.
Spike -
Died in the graveyard waiting for Julia - This is reinforced heavily at the beginning of the series in the flashback/gunfight.
Reason in purgatory - Was betrayed by Vicious and possibly Julia. Needed to make amends with Julia and stop Vicious.
Escapes - With Julia dead, Spike goes after Vicious. Then with Vicious dead, Spike's spirit can move on.
Jet -
Died in an ambush as a cop - This is during a flashback in Ganymede Elegy. I'm making a guess that he is actually killed, which is actually likely.
Reason in purgatory - The girl he left behind. He eventually learns to leave her forever, but stays behind to help Spike (I'll work on that argument as I watch through the series again.
Escapes - By letting go of the girl he left behind.
Faye -
Died in cryo - Perhaps in a thawing process, or maybe even while she was frozen.
Reason in purgatory - She has amnesia. Its possible that this happened during the Shuttle accident. This purgatory is filled with people that haven't faced their pasts. How can she face her past if she can't remember it.
Escapes - When an old friend helps her recover her past.
Ed -
Died looking for her father - She disappeared from the orphanage. She had a picture of her father.
Reason in purgatory - She was looking for her father.
Escapes - When she goes to join her father. With that part behind her, she can move on. Look at her father. He is just an ghost of Ed's mind. Most kids think of their fathers as Superman, until they prove otherwise. Without knowing her father she can only think that he is Superman. This is why Spike gets his butt handed to him. He acts more like a child, which is a reflection of Ed's mind.
Ein -
(I'll have an argument as soon as he's reintroduced)
I can come up with events for probably most of the other cast. Just ask for the person and I'll respond.
