The Bond
Mirkwood seemed so closed in; almost suffocating to most. Darker than most forests, though still quite lovely. But to Anoron and Araduar, it was like a second home. They'd grown quite close to the elves here, being rangers and passing through often. But of all the elves, fate had it in mind, that this brother and sister would befriend Legolas, son of Thranduil.

They'd met years ago, around the time Anoron and Araduar were just children. Aragorn had looked after them for a time, and first introduced them. As the siblings grew, their bond and friendship with the Mirkwood prince grew also. They made frequent visits to his wood, or else, met in Rivendell. Anoron and Araduar preferred the company of elves much more than humans, who basically looked down upon them anyway.

As the two rode, both had smiled upon their faces. Araduar was looking forward to the competition he and Legolas always had going -- who shot better, who ran faster, who was a more accomplished rider, and better wrestler. They were like brothers; constantly jesting.
Anoron was looking forward to the conversation. The reading and discussing of poetry and speaking in the elvish language. The celebrations and gatherings, song and dance. Though not to say she didn't enjoy the occasional romp or wrestle with her elf-friend in a sexist competition. But Legolas respected her skills, and made no such remarks in regards to her being a female -- like so many others had done. He treated her as his equal.

Finally, they came to a small clearing, which led to the gates of Mirkwood; wooden, tall and strong. Immediately, they were allowed access for their faces were now known. Both rode through the city, nodding to those soldiers they may know upon passing through the square and down paths; past quiet homes and high talans. Finally, they came towards the home of Thranduil.

Re: The Bond
Legolas head heard the horses and the clamour the hooves made upon the pathways and smiled. Leaping from his chair he ran down the stairs from his room and tore down the long halls of his father's. It was always a joy to see the faces of the two who he felt were like brother and sister to him. The doors of the palace opened and there Legolas stood, watching as they dismounted and the stableboy taking them for the two.

Gracefully and silently he pattered down the steps and towards Anoron and Araduar. "Mae govannen, gwanur Araduar a gwathel Anoron!" He cried out as he embraced Araduar and Anoron, a bright smile upon his face. "You are most welcome here. Your rooms have been made, and they are down the hall from mine, should you need anything, you are welcomed to it, you need not ask." Legolas kissed Anoron on the cheek and pattered her on the shoulder, she was like his own sister. "How have you two been?! It has been some time since I last set eyes upon you! I do believe you both have grown! Already Araduar is as tall as me!"

Legolas teased and he looked to Anoron. "And tithen aenil.." He said looking at her smiling. Tithen aenil, meaning little angel, was a nickname he oft called her. "You have grown lovely by the minute. Surely the men are at your heels being for you like hounds." He chuckled. "But they know better than to mess with you..they would have both Araduar and myself on them." He smiled as he glanced to Araduar and then Anoron.

"Well you two must be tired from such a long ride. Telimin!" He said helping them with their things. He lead them inside of his home and showed them to their rooms. Each had their own large room, but it was joined with a door on the inside, should they want to be together.

Re: The Bond
Anoron smiled; happy to be in the presence of Legolas again, long-time elven friend. For some reason, her spirits lifted greatly when he was around her. He made her happy, and the times shared were always of great fun and affection.

The three walked down the halls and stairs, as Legolas spoke about the happenings in Mirkwood as of late. Peaceful, and much prosparity -- despite what they were used to seeing; fear and darkness. Though the change was visible.

Children and their parents walked along the paths, playing or talking. Training of new sentinals was taking place; young elves, eager to see their first battle. It made both Anoron and Araduar happy to see such things.

You've done well, gwador.....your city begins to see brighter times. Araduar said smiling and giving Legolas a pat on the shoulder. If there's anything we can do to help, you know you've got our souls. We will do as you please Calenlass.

Anoron walked alongside the two boys as they spoke. They were like two bigger brothers two here -- mostly they did the talking. She was not one for outright decisions.....especially when her brother was close. She loved him so much, and trusted him. Anoron knew Araduar would always protect her.

Be there a feast tonight, ernil taur? Araduar asked, snapping Anoron out of her thoughts.

"An le anglenno...ratho." He said smiling to him as he set their things down in the joined rooms. "It shall be later things eve, after you two get unpacked and such. Would you like me to help you? Father is in a meeting, yet again, andI would rather make sure you are confortable and settled in." He smiled and put an arm around Anron's shoulder, being she was closer to him. "And you have yet to speak, tithen aenil. How are you? What new things have come about to meet you as of late?"

He asked her smiling.

Re: The Bond
Nothing worth telling, mellon nîn.... She said, shaking her head and smiling. Aside from being tormented by my brother and travelling across Middle-Earth -- I rarely have time for anything else. A few good orc plunders here and there. But the shadow is disappearing, slowly but surely.

She patted him on the shoulder and tossed her bag onto her bed. The two had walked to her room, leaving Araduar to unpack in his. I take it this celebration is formal.... She said in a humorus tone. In other words, no blood stained clothes allowed. Anoron's eyes moved to Legolas.

I do not suppose you have a dress or two that some elven maiden has left behind after spending an evening with you?... She teased. Anoron knew Legolas had his share of lovers, and why not? He was one of the most praised elves in middle-earth for his beauty.

Re: The Bond
Legolas rolled his eyes and smiled. "Nay, none from other maidens, save my mother. Wait here." He said and he walked out of the room.

About ten minutes later, Legolas came back in with an armload of clothes, and dresses, not to mention gowns wore by his mother that were left behind. "You are about teh same size as my mother, though she a bit taller, I think these will do you fine. It does not have to be 'formal, you know, getting prettied up to an extreme state." He chuckled.

"It is for you to feel welcomed, as you are." He laid the dresses on the bed and looked to her smiling, his bright blue eyes twinkling with mirth. "Would they suit you? Or do you want me to go out and buy you a dress? I can, tis not a problem you know.." Legolas said as he helped her to begin unpacking.

Re: The Bond
Nay, nay dear Greenleaf!... She laughed, pulling him back by the shoulders. What I desire now is some rest, away from the male eye, like you and my brother. I shall see you both at the celebration which comes within a few hours time.

Anoron pushed him out the door before he could protest. Still laughing to herself she walked over to the bed and began to sort through a few of the dresses.

Meanwhile, Araduar was coming out of his room at the time Legolas was being thrown out. He chuckled. Persistant, is she not?.....I swear, you get her all riled up, Legolas. Do not make me seperate you two. He smiled.

The two friends walked and spoke about times and differs between those in the kingdom of men, and in the kingdom of elves. They jested each other and even stopped off to watch the training of some of the young sentinals. Legolas of course, intervined on their bow skills and taught them a few tricks. Araduar just smiled and watched, and later as they returned to the home of his father, commented on Legolas being a show off.

A quick wrestle to the ground showed that both were equally skilled. Calling a truse, they headed back inside to change for the celebration.

Music and laughter flowed within the halls of Thranduil's home that night. Legolas and Araduar were sitting at one of the high tables, surrounded by elder elves and their wives; yet they both remained batchlors. Which of course, enticed females to frequently ask for dances.

It was then Anoron arrived; wearing a dress once belonging to Legolas' mother. It was a pearl color; form fitting and belled at the bottom. The neckline was low and the sleeves were elegant. As she made her way across the floors, an elf asked her to dance. Accepting with a shy smile, they began. Finally, Anoron caught the eye of Legolas and Araduar, smiling and blushing to them.

Re: The Bond
Legolas smiled as he watched her dance across the floor. She glided like an elf, twirling and moving to the music. Legolas stood and excused himself from Araduar and walked other towards Anoron and tapped the elf on the shoulder. "Mind if I cut in?" He said with a smile, the elf graciously nodded and bowed to her, then joining another lady. Smiling, he took her hand in his and his hand went to the small of her back--pulling her close to him. He chuckled as Legolas' hand rested on her waist and they began to dance beautifully across the dance floor.

The floated and glided together, and Legolas whispering things in Anoron's ear making her giggle or blush.

Re: The Bond
Anoron tried to surpress her laughter as Legolas whispered suggestive things into her ear about each couple -- their habits and what they'd been caught doing. He knew almost all the gossip in Mirkwood. Anoron loved to get some 'dirt' on these elves since they always appeared so 'clean'. But everyone had secrets. She was just fortunate enough to know someone who KNEW all the secrets.

Once they were done, both went back to the table, Araduar gave his sister a kiss on the cheek as she was seated.

I trust whatever you chose to whisper into my sister's ear was of good taste, Legolas.... He said, raising a brow.

Legolas gave Araduar a cheeky grin. "But of course! She found them amusing, after all, we don't want her gloomy all eve do we?" He said asking Anoron. He smiled to her and turned back to Araduar. "Meldir, you have not danced with a woman yet this eve, don't you wish to dance? There to your left is a maiden who seems to have a like for you." He teased Araduar, nudging him slightly.

Patting him on the shoulder reassuringly he added, "Do not fear, I'm sure your little sister will beat them off." Then Legolas laughed and crossed his arms. "Besides, she's just as protective of you, as you are of her."

Re: The Bond
And don't you forget it. Anoron warned, pointing a finger at Legolas.

Much of the evening was filled with dancing and laughter, but the three companions mostly just spoke into the night. When elves began to leave and say their good-night's, the siblings and Legolas left the hall and went to their rooms. Araduar saw Anoron into hers, and told her he had offered to assist the Captain of the sentinals on a camping trip. The new recruits were being worked in this night, and the next.

Kissing her on the cheek he bid her farewell for that eve, and left. Anoron sighed and changed into a night tunic. The day had worn her out and she was tired. Normally, she would feel uneasy if Araduar left the area.....but Legolas was here. No harm would come to her.

Shaking slightly, she tried her best to ignore the storm and its ferocious offspring. But then her chamber lit up with eerie brilliance then seemed to shake with a terrible drum roll of thunder. Anoron gave up trying to be brave and dashed out of her room. She headed straight for the bedchamber closest to hers.

Legolas looked up in surprise to see Anoron at his door looking very unlike her usually unflappable self. The Elf was reading a thick tome when he noticed the ranger's presence. He set the book aside and turned in bed to take stock of his friend.

Anoron, what is wrong? You look as if you’ve seen a ghost, he said.

Nay, not a ghost, Anoron mumbled. ’Tis-‘tis just that-do you think this storm will last through the night?....

Legolas shrugged. Most likely. Why do you ask?

A flash of lightning lit up the chamber as if it were day and was immediately followed by a deafening crash of thunder that made the glazed panes of Legolas’ windows rattle. Anoron could not help flinching visibly, a fact Legolas did not fail to notice. He stared at his friend’s suddenly pale countenance.

You’re afraid of the storm? he blurted out incredulously.

Anoron glared at him indignantly but, unfortunately, the effect was lost when she started and winced on the heels of another monstrous thunderclap. Torn between amusement and sympathy, Legolas decided on the latter sentiment and shifted to one side of his large bed.

Never mind, come here, he grinned, lifting one side of his blanket.

Her face flaming with embarrassment, Anoron accepted her friend's invitation nonetheless. Reminding Legolas of a scared Elfling, the gir hurried over to the bed and scooted under the proffered cover.

Legolas looked down at her wonderingly. The human lay huddled, facing him, her eyes closing tightly every time thunder or lightning struck. She wore naught but a large sleeping tunic. ’Tis only a storm, Anoron, he said comfortingly. Surely you have experienced storms before.

Anoron sighed woefully. Aye, but not like this. My father’s halls are not as exposed as your home and the stone shelters us to a great extent. Plus, my brother has always been within distance....but he is not in his room. He went out with a scouting party for the night. She shuddered as the wind’s howling increased to an intolerable din. She bit her lip and looked up at Legolas. You must think me such a coward, she said shamefacedly.

Legolas chuckled understandingly. Nay, we all have our share of fears. As you say, we are more exposed to the elements and you are not used to it. Be thankful that this is a vale and not the open plains. That would be even worse.

Anoron nodded and tried to calm herself. But another explosive thunderclap foiled her attempt. Legolas literally felt the mattress bounce as the ranger almost jumped in bed. The Elf shook his head, swallowed his laughter with some difficulty, and slid down beside the shaking girl.

'Tis all right, mellon nîn, he cooed, stroking his friend’s arm.

Anoron looked at him as if he were a safe harbor in which she could anchor her frail boat. Legolas? she quavered, her face even redder than the prince thought possible. I know I will never live this down but-but will you hold me?

An eyebrow lifted in surprise followed by a chuckle. Very well, Anoron, if it will comfort you, he grinned.

He obligingly drew Anoron close, holding her against his chest as he would a child. As the rains continued to lash raucously at the sturdy walls of the Mirkwood high-house and the elements ceaselessly made their presence violently known, the ranger clung even more tenaciously to her friend. Suppressing his snickers, Legolas ran his hand idly through the girl's dark curly hair and stroked her back and shoulders.

However, Anoron did not know precisely when her feelings about the situation changed. Between one moment and the next she suddenly became all too aware of Legolas’ body pressed against hers. It did not help that he was clad in naught but thin night trousers as was his habit. Anoron felt her breath shorten and her heart begin to race. A slow heat kindled within her.

No, this cannot happen! Not now! She looked up at the prince, wondering if he had noticed her reaction, hoping he had not and worrying that he had. But the golden-maned Elf was too absorbed in quelling his laughter to take notice of his friend’s nervousness. Anoron blew her breath out in relief. Now, if only Legolas did not move any closer and no more thunder ensured.

That hope was foiled when a veritable display of electrical energy gone mad erupted outside succeeded by a horrendous clap of thunder, louder than all its predecessors. Gasping in shock, Anoron ducked her head into the crook of Legolas' neck and flung her arm around the Mirkwood Elf.

The ranger had practically draped herself over the elf in his efforts to be as close as possible to the reassuring presence of her friend. Now they were virtually chest-to-chest, their lean hips pressed together, their long legs entangled beneath the blanket. She knew her attraction for Legolas was growing from friendship....it was much deeper now. And it frightened her. Cursing to herself, Anoron strove desperately to get her wayward body under control.

I apologize, Legolas......you must think me foolish and bothersome. She said, using it as an excuse to get off of him. He would surely notice something, but his face and attitude did not give that impression. He merely smiled amused to her.

Re: The Bond
Legolas simple smiled to her and rubbed her back soothingly. "No no, Anoron, I think you not foolish. We all have our fears, and this happens to be one of yours. I'm here to comfort you when it comes and you seek safety." Legolas was too busy trying to calm and stiffle his snickers and chuckles, and calm her down to notice how they were positioned on his bed.

Another deep rolling thrunder roared outside and another brilliant flash of light lit the whole room, and he felt Anoron tighten her grip slightly on his and jump. Sighing, he stroked her back soothingly and kissed her temple. "Shh.." He cooed to her as he contined to rub her back. "Tithen aenil nin ,flind rancin.."

When another out-burst of thunder and onslaught of lightening came, he smiled and began to sing to her quietly.

"Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to jouney's end.

Sleep now
Dream--of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away.

Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping...

What an you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home.

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass.

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time.

Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores all calling
You and I will meet again.

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping...

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home.

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West."

And as his song ended, he looked down at Anoron and smiled, still he stroked the back of her head and smiled.

*My little angel, you are safe in my arms

Re: The Bond
Face flushed with even greater embarrassment, Anoron acquiesced to the Elf's suggestions and settled back against the pillows. Inwardly sighing with relief, Legolas rolled onto his side and placed an arm loosely over Anoron.

With her back against Legolas' chest, comforted by his murmured words of encouragement, and his protective arm around her, Anoron finally managed not to take too much notice of the storm outside. After a while, she slipped into a
relatively peaceful slumber though she still clutched at Legolas' arm, even in her sleep. She was glad to have someone there to turn to when Araduar wasn't about.

But then again, that feeling. What was that she felt when she had been clutched so tightly to Legolas but a few moments ago? Some strange desire in the pit of her stomach -- something that scared her. Anoron hoped it was not what she feared, and that this feeling would pass.

Re: The Bond
Legolas smiled and kissed her cheek as she finally fell asleep. The rest of that night the storm came and passed, and the rain had beaten against the glass windows of his room, but it was a blur to the two frineds. Legolas had stayed up most of the night, watching over her as the storm raged on outside, and he could not help but worry for Araduar. It would be dreadful for his friend to be hurt.

After the storm had passed, Legolas too followed her and fell asleep, his eyes half closed, as it was the way the elves slept. Night passed and the glorious morning, graced with a ray of colours in the sky greeted the now cooled earth from the night's rainy storm. The wet sun peeked through the clouds above.

Re: The Bond
Slowly, Anoron opened her eyes; accustomed to waking up early when on travels with her brother. Yet she found herself still in Legolas' chambers. The night came back to her, and embarrassement once again grasped her in it's shakey fist and laughed. Slowly, she slid out of bed, and tiptoed back to her own room.

As she slid under the covers of her own bed, to catch at least another hour of sleep -- Anoron ran over in her mind, the feelings she'd had. Not love....no. It couldn't be.

Could it?

Could the years of being close with Legolas have an effect on Anoron? Was she thinking of him as more than a friend? -- As a potential lover? No. She couldn't. Legolas would never go for that; he was an elf and she a human. They'd been best friends, and they were all so close.

But still, the question plagued her mind. Anoron made a decision to speak with Araduar once he returned. Surely he would know what to do.

Re: The Bond
Legolas woke and sat up, stretching, and he smiled as the thoughts of before had slipped into his mind. He could not help but chuckle at the rememberance of the night of the storm. She seemed like a child, and his heart went out to her then. Standing, he walked to his bathing chambers and freshed up and dressing in breeches and a white linen tunic with strings. slipping on his wrist gauntlets, he slung his quiver over his shoulder and his bow in hand.

His light feet trend softly on the hard flod towards the woods, but he stopped at her door. Lightly Legolas tapped it, and hearing no response he opened it and poked his head through. She was awake. Legolas smiled. "I was just checking on you, making sure you are well. If you need me, I will be in the wodos behind the gardens."

And with that he left and traveled to the woods of his home. The elf set the quiver down and set up a target, practicing his archery.

Re: The Bond
Anoron tensed at he poked his head in; her breath catching in her chest and her eyes never blinking. She smiled and watched Legolas leave, just as quickly as he'd come. A small sigh escaped her lips.

So why now the tension?! Why the desire? Why were these feelings not doing away?! Last night was the closest contact she'd ever had with Legolas -- save perhaps when she was a child, and taught her how to kiss. Even then, Anoron had felt nothing but friendship. Yet now.....she found herself daydreaming about him asking her how the kissing was going, and if she needed a new lesson.

Damn thoughts! Rang through her mind. This was impossible. How was she to be with him now? -- such tension.

Knowing she could not avoid him, Anoron dressed; tossing on some breeches and a cloak, over her sleeping tunic. She tucked it in loosely as she pattered down the stairs and outside to find Legolas.

It did not take long, for the sound of arrows cutting through the air got her attention. Without saying a word, she walked over and sat by a tree, watching him. Anoron nodded to him, and waited for him to continue to practise -- all the time thinking, ignore these feelings.

Legolas let the last arrow fly and with a sharp thud it hit the target dead on. Smiling with exuberance, he lowered the bow and turned to Anoron. "Something you wish to speak about Anoron? Or did you simply come for the show?" He teased as walked over to her and sat down beside her. Looking into her eyes he could see deoth, thoughts, emotions. Frowning with concern, he set his bow down and looked at her.

"Anoron? What's the matter? You seemed troubled and morose about something. What is it?" And he put a hand on her cheek, stroking the skin with his thumb.

Anoron blushed and slapped Legolas' hand away, laughing and trying to cover up her nervousness. Don't get all sensitive to me, mellon nîn -- I am not some random elf girl. She smiled and shifted over from him a bit. If something was wrong, I would tell you. Do you have no faith in me?.... She asked.

She wanted him to drop it. Nothing would make her tell. Play it normal, until Araduar returned.

Re: The Bond
He smiled and poked her in her side. "Yes, I have faith you would tell me. Always will." ANd he quickly kissed her on the cheek and sprang to his feet and jumping back before she could hit him again. At this le laughed and walked to garner the arrows he had shot that now stuck out of the target. "You really should loosen up. You are tense. You act as if you are going ground me or something of the sort.." He teased with his back to her as he pulled out the arrows.

Re: The Bond
I do not find myself uptight. You've been away from humans for too long, Legolas... She said, standing. You elves have always been too sensitive.

It was then she stopped speaking. She realized her fault already; only hours ago was she curled in his bed, hiding from a thunderstorm -- which seemed ridiculous to her now. But Legolas could easily use that against her for sensitivity.

The look he was giving her implied that; a raised eye brow with a small smirk. She drew her eyes down and began to walk through the forest.
