Bree is a small town inhabited by men near the Barrow Downs where its people were rumored to have come from Dunland and the vales of the White Mountains. It is protected by the Rangers of the North, also known as the Dunedain.

Of all of the mighty works crafted by the Dwarves, Moria was the great underground kingdom. Built by both Elves and Dwarves, Moria once had splendor, but now, goblins and orcs infested the mines, turning now to a tomb of shadow.

Full of lush gardens and rolling green hills, The Shire is home to the smallest of folk, the Hobbits. It is rich and fertile, and is also protected by the Rangers of the North, and has been for years while the Hobbits enjoy the simplicity of life.

  Caradhras
Meaning 'Red-peak' in the tongue of the Sindarin Elves, Caradhras is the northern most of the three great peaks over Moria. The weather can be quite cruel here at this pass, men often refer to it as the Redhorn Pass.

  Imladris
The Elven name for the great Elven Refuge founded by Elrond, Rivendell. It is located in Eastern Eriador at the Foothills of the Misty Mountains and between the rivers Mitheithel (Hoarwell) and Bruinen (Loudwater). Those who dwell within this hidden valley are the Noldor, but it is also a place for the folk of goodwill.

  The Old Forest
It is the area of ancient woodland, due east of the Shire. Full of its own mysteries malevolent trees, the greatest among these was Old Man Willow. It is one of the last survive tracts of the primeval woods of the Elder Days.

  The Grey Havens
The translated meaning from the Sindarin name Mithlond. Here lies the harbor and city founded by the Falathrim in the Second Age of Middle Earth. It lays near the mouth of Lune, which empties into the Gulf and sea. The Lord of Mithlond is none other than Cirdan the Shipwright.

  The Weather Hills and Weathertop
The translation of the Sindarin word Amon Sûl, meaning 'Hill of Winds.' It is the tallest, most southern point of the Weather Hills in central Eriador. It is commonly used as a watch tower by men.

Rhovanion
  Mirkwood
Ruled by King Thranduil, the woods of once Greenwood the Great are the largest woodland in all of Rovanion. It was once a merry place, until Sauron infested the woods with his minions of darkness. Now the woods are filled with the dangers of Spiders, orcs, and goblins. Now, by men, it is called Mirkwood.

  Lothlorien
Also meaning 'Dream Flower' in Sindarin combined with Quenya. This ancient forest stood up on both sides of the river Celebrant. It is not the most ancient, but it is certainly a place of beauty and mystery. Home to the Mallorn-trees, this woodland is protected by the Lady of Light.

  Fangorn Forest
This great and elderly forest lies towards the southeastern side of the Misty Mountains. It is guarded by Treebeard and his fellow Ents. Both Fangorn and the Old Forest contain deep vales from which the Great Darkness has never been truly lifted.

  Gladden Fields
Here lies the wet green lands about the mouth of the river Gladden, where this ran into the Anduin. Many beautiful flowers flourished here, among them was the iris. It is North of Lothlorien, and West of Mirkwood.

  The Brown Lands
A Desolated wilderness which lay between the southern eaves of Mirkwood and the hills of Emyn Muil, west of the Black Gate. These lands had once been rich and fruitful, but during the daves of the Last Alliance, it was scorched and burned, now it is a barren wasteland where nothing grows.

  Sarn Gebir and Emyn Muil
Sarin Gebir is a fierce and dangerous shoals on the Anduin, shortly before the Great River ran through the gorge of the Arganath. It was the only docking point in the rapids of the Anduin. Emyn Muil is a knotted range of hills, cloven by the Anduin and the deep gorge of the Argonath. To the east, they fell away and became featureless; on the western side of the Great River, they dropped sharply into a cliff or scrap above the plain of Rohan.

  Edoras
Edoras is the chief city of Rohan, situated at the feet of the White Mountains near the river Snowbourne. Crowning the hills was the glorious King's Hall, Meduseld, completed my Brego, Second King of the Mark. Now ruled by King Théoden, it is a fashioned hill fortress with stockade and dike.

  East Emnet
Another region of the vast Kingdom of Rohan, home of the horse lords. It is a low-lying atra between the rivers Entwash and Anduin. While it is not the most fertile of lands, it is a grassy plain, and home to many citizens of Rohan.

Sister region to East Emnet in the Kingdom of Rohan, home of the horse lords. It is the name giving to the land which lay west to the river Entwash. While it is not the most fertile of lands, it is a grassy plain, and home to many citizens of Rohan.

  Dunharrow
The most mysterious of the ancient sites which the Rohirrim found when they explored the new lands ceded to them by Gondor. However, Dunharrow, in the valley of Harrowdale was not built by Gondor. Deserters, traitors, and cowards dwell here; their ghost remain, for they cannot rest until the rightful heir summons them.

  Helm's Deep
The general name for the complex of fortifications at the head of the Deeping Coomb in the northern White Mountains; the hold was originally built by Gondor but later strengthened by Kings of Rohan. It was in this fortress that the renowned Helm Hammerhand took refuge during the Long Winter of the Third Age.

  The Gap of Rohan
The open plain, which provided the only sizeable break in the massive chain of mountain-ranges stretching from the Northern Waste to Cape Andrast in the south. Of strategic importance, the Gap of Rohan was guarded by the fortress of Isengard, and by the tower of Aglarond, the Hornburg.

  Nan Curunir
Situated between the south-westerly and south easterly spurs of Methedras, the 'Last Peak' of the Mistry Mountains. The 'Wizard's Vale was a large, well-guarded valley, in the center of which rose the mighty Ring and fortress of Isengard, which overlooks the plains and the River Isen.

The Lands of Gondor
  Anorien
One of the two elderly provinces of Gondor. It contains most of the realm west of the Anduin and east of the White Mountains. Its chief city was Minas Anor, later renamed Minas Tirith. Fertile plains and grassland are some of the more keen features of Anorien.

  Pelargir
The most ancient port of Gondor, forty leagues upstream from the Mouths of Anduin, above the confluence with the Sirith. The haven was founded in the Second Age by mariners of Númenor. Pelargir remains the chief port of the South Kingdom of Gondor.

  Osgiliath
Sindarin for 'Citadel-of the-Stars', it is the once capital and chief city of Gondor, until it was superseded by the fortress-city of Minas Tirith. It was gradually deserted and lost all its former eminence, and by the Third Age the city was little more than a vast ruin upon either bank of the Great River.

  Dol Amroth
Amroth's Hill. This towering coastal hill-fortress was the chief bastion of Gondor's power in the Bay of Belfalas throughout the Third Age. Though the castle itself had been raised to protect the provinces of Anfalas and Belfalas from seaborne raiding, it also had other, older association. Below its rocky promontory lay long-deserted Elf-Morthond, where elves of Lorien sailed down to the sea.

  Minas Tirith
Originally, it was named Minas Anor, it was renamed Minas Tirith after its sister-fortress of Minas Ithil had been captured by Sauron. It has become the chief city and the only surviving stronghold of the diminished South-kingdom. Its city has seven levels, and at the top of the Citadel Rock is the White Tower

  Ithlien
Ithlien is one of the two most royal and ancient provinces of Gondor, founded by Isildur himself in the Second Age. Fair and full of trees, green hills, and quick waters. Though as darkness grew, its beauty dimmed. It lay in the narrow lands between the Mountains of Shadow and the Great River, bordered by the marshland of Nindalf in the north and the river Poros in the south. Now is is divided into two parts: North and South Ithlien.

  Pelennor Fields
Before the fortress-city of Minas Tirith lay the grassy plains of Pelennor. Pelennor is the fenced townlands of Mias Tirith, and the field that stretches from Minas Tirith to Osgliath.

Black Lands of Mordor
  Minas Morgul
The name given to Minas Ithil after its fall to the forces of Sauron in the Third Age of Middle Earth. It soon became known as the Tower of Sorcery, for here the Witch King dwelt. It was one of the two principal fortresses of Gondor having been originally created as the twin of Minas Tirith.

  Mount Doom
A translation of the Sindarin Amon Amarth, the name given in Gondor to the violent and continuously erupting volcano Orodruin. It is deep and in the side, there is a pass, which Sauron created to travel into the volcano and there forged his evil Ring of Power.

  Cirith Ungol
This high route across the Mountains of Shadow from Minas Morgul to Gorgoroth consisted, in fact, of two passes: one clearly marked and one secret. The main route, the Morgul Pass, ran past the gates of the evil city; the secret, more tortuous oath climbed up endlessl broken steps, past yawning chasms, until it reached a cleft between two jagged peaks of the Ephel Dúath, there was Shelob's Liar.

  The Tower of Barad-Dur
Known as the Dark Tower. It is the ancient fortress of Sauron's might. It crouched upon a great south-pointing inner spur of the Ash Mountains of Mordor. With its towers and battlements, tall as hills, founded upon a mighty mountain-throne above immeasurable pits; great courts and dungeons; eyeless prisons sheer as cliffs, and gaping gates of steel and adamant.

  The Dead Marshes
An area of low-lying, swampy ground west of Dagorlad, between Emyn Muil and the Black Gate. It became the enveloped burial-place of the men and elves that were slain in the battle of the Last Alliance. It was said at night the wil-o'-the-wisp lights flickered above the meres, one who followed the lights would see the phantom faces of the fallen warriors.

  Haradwaith
All of the lands south of the river Harnen. These lands included Near Harad, Far Harad, Umbar, and Khand. These are the lands of the Haradrim warriors who came to the aid of Sauron. They are mariners as well, corsairs ships of the South.
