The Mummy Returns
While the original was very good and a lot funnier, the sequel is more action-packed and heart-stopping. It has everything I value in a movie: action, romance, humor, character development, a new discovery; all would around a statement about love. While most just see this movie at its surface level, I see it at all its depths. At the surface level, its simply an action-packed adventure about the resurrection of a mummy. But beyond that, it ultimately teaches you something about love: how lust can be mistaken for love, how easily it is to be blinded by love and be willing to risk everything it, and how true love conquers all. But this is only one of its many levels. What I love most about this movie is Rick and Evey's relationship, how they're by each other through thick and thin, and while Rick always seems to come to the rescue, it is not because Evey is inferior. Her character has greatly evolved in this movie--she's learned martial arts, sword-fighting, and various other things, and can quite capably take care of herself. Rick is well aware of this, but still comes to her aid as a subconscious instinct, developed by their unique bond. What I also love is the new twist, the bit of information that we learn that puts a whole new light on things. The concept of fate is addressed, and this new discovery perfectly ties all the loose ends together. I found this very creative and was very impressed. I was also very impressed with the writers' ability to take various scenes from other movies and twist them around so that they fit perfectly into the plot. Altogether, I love this movie because it had everything all while not being predictable, which is a great achievement as far as sequels go. Definitely better than the original, and I loved that one too!

RATING: 9 out of 10

PADGETT: "I made a mistake myself."
MULDER: "What's that, Mr. Padgett?"
PADGETT: "In my book, I'd written that Agent Scully falls in love but that's obviously impossible. Agent Scully is already in love."
-"Milagro", Season 6

Hi guys! I just saw it too! I ran to the theatres because I figured it would be out of there soon and I like seeing movies like these on the "big screen". Was very impressed! I loved the first one too and I thought this was a great sequel ... better than most. They didn't try to simply re-do the plot of the first one but had something new. Would have liked to see more of the "Rock" - he was a great scorpian king. I liked the guys that were chasing them in the double decker bus too. Actually, I think the brother's character is great! Hei's so sleezy! Anyways, I'm with you AleXa - a 9 is definitely a good rating!

Thank you so much! :D I try, I really do! ;)

Yeah, usually, the better movies do in weekend gross, the longer they're in theaters. Take Cast Away for example--it was in theaters for 6 months!! You could still see it in theaters when it came out on rent!!

Yeah, that's what I loved about it--it still had all of the same elements that made the first one great, but they added more action, more suspense, more romance, a new main character, and not only all that, but a new twist to top it all off--something we didn't know before--further insight into the main characters and their roles in life. Oh, how I love that movie!! ;)
