The inside scoop on the ASWC
It has been in development for some time and has caused quite the controversy with it’s postponement, but the ASWC is going to happen. Here’s when, where and who will be there.
I recently had the pleasure of talking with the main man behind the ASWC, or Alternative Sports World Cup. Here’s what we found out.
The event will take place on June 26th through June 30th of 2002. Fox Sports Net will air the event in a self-titled mini series as it would be from July 13th through July 20th 2002. The airdates and times are as follows.
July 13th, 2002                5pm-7pm
July 15th, 2002                3pm and 6pm
July 16th, 2002                3pm and 6pm
July 17th, 2002                3pm and 6pm
July 19th, 2002                3pm and 6pm
July 20th, 2002                5pm-7pm
Locations have not been finalized but it is being decided by the city councils in: Anaheim, California
San Diego, California
Phoenix, Arizona
Las Vegas, Nevada
Confirmations of the location should come soon. Event dates and air times are solid.
The invitees are unconfirmed at this point. In the spring of 2001 I had submitted a list of the top riders that I knew of around the world and I do believe that most of them received invites. I’m sure that EarthBoards can confirm that list.
This event will not conflict with the DBXUSA schedule. It will actually work out nicely as the first round of racing and the Pro Tour will wrap up on the 15th-16th of June at Kratka ridge in California. The following weekend is the event at Donner Ski Summit headed by NPD Landboards. So the pros on tour should be in good shape to compete and win at the ASWC.
This is by far the largest event in the history of Alternative Sports. First place wins $20,000. Last place gets a grand. How sick is that? For more information you will have to contact Earthboards @ customerservice@earthboards.com, or you can call them at 1-877-843-2862 toll free.
