This one's for Blake's Seven fans only!
This poll will probably have the lowest response rate ever seen!

Since we are thinking about writing some B7 fic which character pairings do you think most ficworthy?
Avon/Cally
Blake/Servalan
Funny little thief guy/Anyone
Jenna/Cally
Blake/Avon

I think this is one of the only times I'll actually respond with an M/F pairing, but my young heart just yearned for Avon and Callie to get together when I originally watched this... it's one of the reasons I didn't much care for the final series.

Re: This one's for Blake's Seven fans only!
I have to say that this is the only time that I would probably respond with an m/m pairing. I just always thought that Avon had his heart on his sleeve when it came to Blake, (All that careful sarcasm designed to hide his feelings) he couldn't leave him and who was most destroyed when Blake 'died'? (Not that Blake reciprocated of course and Avon was utterly misguided as B was a pompous lump.)

Of course my memories may be inaccurate here. I've been thinking about Ebaying the vids to remind myself of the true glories. If we're gonna write some fic then I guess that's essential.

New series!
I nicked this off the SciFi storm page using Michael's link. It's a new series!

BBC News is reporting that actor Paul Darrow, who played Avon in the original Blake's 7 series, has obtained the rights to the series from the widow of creator Terry Nation (also famous for creating the Daleks). A new mini-series is planned with Darrow probably the only original actor returning, and is to take place 25 years after the series. A budget is set for $5-6M (a fortune compared to what the series probably got) and is aimed for Spring 2005. I hope somehow they bring back the Liberator. A ship where the crew doesn't even know its capabilities and its aggravating computer are what made the series for me...

I don't know whether to believe any of this or not

Great, so that means we don't have to suffer through Blake himself (he and Tarrant were so annoying). But they have to find a way to bring back Zen/Liberator... I loved that computer/ship.

I've nothing against m/m but could never contemplate anything with Blake as part of the pairing. Now Viller, he was sweet.

The Film and DVDs
A brief synopsis of the current situation with the proposed film and the DVDs:
B7 Enterprises Limited, the group led by Andrew Sewell and Paul Darrow, now control all rights associated with any future production of Blake's 7. They have development money for a project involving a new four hour mini-series (originally proposed as a tv movie) set in the future of the B7 universe, and possibly an animated remake based on the original scripts. At present they do *not* have full funding to actually make either the mini-series or the animated series. They hope to start production of the mini-series in 2004 for broadcast in 2005, if funding can be obtained. The only character from the original series to appear in the mini-series will be Avon, played by Paul Darrow.

It is our understanding that the BBC own the rights to the original aired series but B7 Enterprises Limited own the rights to the "name" Blake's 7. As rights holder for the name, they now effectively have a veto over the release of the DVDs of the original aired series. They are currently blocking the release, and have stated various reasons for doing so, including quality and "commercial considerations". They have not gone into details about the commercial considerations, but fannish speculations have included various combinations of:

wanting more money from BBCW (BBC Worldwide) for permission to use the Blake's 7 name
the release date of the DVDs being manipulated for the benefit of the mini-series project's publicity
improved extras on the DVDs.
To form your own opinion regarding the above, you can read Andrew Sewell's own statement on the official website run by B7 Enterprises Limited. (it's part of a discussion thread on www.blakes7.com/bb/default.asp but you have to register to join the forum to be able to read it) If any of the above are the case, it's difficult to predict when the DVDs will be released. There is no release date at the present time, but Andrew Sewell has stated that it is unlikely the DVDs will be released before 2004.

The press releases from B7 Enterprises Limited have clearly stated that they have *development* funding. This has been erroneously reported by much of the press as "Blake's 7 is back!", which at the moment is by no means certain. The moral of this story is don't believe what you read in the papers or hear on tv. The original press releases, and further information, are available on the official website for the mini-series www.Blakes7.com Unfortunately, it uses a very recent version of Flash and what is reported to be buggy Javascript to present the information, with no text alternative. If you have a minority browser (including most of the disability browsers), a secure browser, or a slow link, you may have serious problems in using the site.

Re: New series!
Makes me glad I bought my copy on video some years back, even if DVDs are better quality.

I'm kind of in two minds about his project now, it could turn out very cheesy... and not in the good way.

Re: New series!
I have decided to be ludicrously optimistic about this show for no very good reason except that I want it to be great and successful, 'cos if it finds a market we might get more ... and heaven knows we have waited a long time for a B7/Doctor Who replacement.

Is that a Tardis I see before me?
Well you don't have to wait for a Dr Who replacement anymore... they're bringing it back :eek

I hope Alan Davies doesn't get the job... Johnathan Creek, yeah, Dr Who, nah!

I agree about Alan Davies - it would make a nice change to have a doctor who is not a curly headed mop-top!

Hmmm
If only she were still alive I think Margaret Rutherford would have made a great Doctor, a pure English eccentric, which is precisely what DW should be.

Jeez this is harder than I thought... I think the tv companies put a hit out on eccentric English women around the end of the 50s... I'll have to think on it.

Of course for twenty quid and a packet of sherbet lemons I'd be willing to do it myself.

Re: Hmmm
Joyce Grenfell, would of made a good one, but as she is dead it would have to be a top up between Dawn French, and Mauren Lipman.

However the choices are going to be from.

Paul Magnn
Richard E Grant (Perhaps he & Paul should do it together, it could be 'Whitnail & I' in time!!)
Sean Pertwee
Jason Connerey
and of course Tony Stewart Head.

The Beeb will of course keep us informed.

Talking about revivals. It looks like the B7 revival is defunct, as Paul Darrow has pulled out of the project.

Ps Rach how's your cold?

Hmm
Of the ones listed, I'd have to go for Anthony Stewart Head. Richard E Grant is eccentric, but I just can't see him in the role.

Julie Walters? So long as she's not in Dinnerladies form, she's great.

RalSt

p.s. the cold has retreated, although I think it's gathering recruits for a new assualt.
