Re: Welcome to “LOTR: THE THREE MOTION PICTURES Discussion
Mr Underhill made the comment, during a discussion on the potter books that The LOTR movies were not as enjoyable to watch as the Potter movies . This got me thinking and upon refection I realized that the experience of viewing these movies, although enjoyable, I was not satisfied.
I was too busy comparing the movies to the books to really relax and enjoy the movies for what they were; Just an adventure flick.

I know what you mean. I did the same thing for the Conan movies as well as for Kull and the 13th Warrior. I also feel the same way about any movie made on a comci bookcharacter - Superman, XMen, Spidey etc.
In the case of LOTR, I had the good fortune of seeing the movie first... but the ending, I must admit, confused me. So I got online and tried to find people who knew about LOTR and could help me out and lo... I found tens of huge groups and forums dedicated to LOTR and the rest is infamous history, but nevermind that.
Yeah, I read the books next and got the picture(heh heh, thats a kind of pun or what's that word... oxymoron or summit... urrgh)
Anyway, you understand what I'm saying.
So to enjoy the next two parts better, I waited for the movies before reading the books. Right now, I'm reading ROTK after watching the movie 5 times.
I haven't read the Hobbit yet, will chek out the movie if made. And the Sil... groan!!!

Its was the same for me with the movie Dune. I loved the movie so much that I read the book. The movie (the original, and not the series) was a weak shadow compared to the book, but in itself was a very good and original fantasy film. If I had read the book first, I would have been upset with the movie, and would not have appreciated it as much as I did.
One thing about movie adaptations, they do introduce new people to the literature. So, I guess the LOTR movies do have there place.

He's just still impressed with his new collection of matching Potter books, unlike his Tolkien collect, which is mist matched and tatty
I do have to say thought, we have watched the Potter movies more often then the LOTRs. In fact, other than the first time, I don't think Thain has bothered with the DVD movie of the LOTR.
I think Thain dose not like the movies.

That's it - you let Sister or Alk near a topic and sooner or later, Potter will be mentioned!
I wrote a spoof with my sister recently - we have to perform it on Thursday for my choir's like 'social evening' thing. "Harriet Trotter and the Conductor's Batone"...
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Memories of things that made me love you - memories of words that made me love you - memories that now are horrible to me. And how I worshipped you! You were to me something apart from common life, a thing pure, noble, honest, without stain. The world seemed to me finer because you were in it...
