What bow and broadheads are you shooting?
I'm ordering a 2002 Ben Pearson Diamondback today I believe, Huntersfriend.com has an awsome package for $499 shipped, NAP Thunderhead Broadheads, either 85's,100's, or 125's, what are you guys shooting?

I have a Darton Fury I've been shooting for the last 2-3 years. Gold Tip and Game Tracker arrows, 100grn 4-blade Muzzy's. If you're not sure of which head to shoot, do the math and see which has the best KE and speed with your arrow. Hopefully that will be the combo that shoots best as well.

I have heard 4 blade's dont work as well? Like less penetration... I know I have heard that somewhere.

I don't tink that's necesarily true. The 4 blades usually have a smaller diameter giving them more penetraion, and an added benefit of less wind drift. Although smaller in dimeter, because there are 4 blades, vs 3, the wound channel is as large or larger than a comprable 3 blade. Take a look here and see if you can get any useful info from it. You need to try a few and figure out what's best for you and your bow. The first one off the shelf is not always the best.

This is how the broadheads work: A regular 2 blade has the most penetration because there is less friction while going through, but there is less of a blood trail from the smaller wound channel. 3 blade is 2nd, but with a better blood trail because of the 3rd bleeder blade. 4 blade is the worst penetrator because of more friction while going through and no real advantage in blood trail size compared to the 3 blade. Make sense?

I shoot a Mathews Ultra II w/Bodoodle rest and TruGlo 3pin sight.The arrows are Beman Treebark,with Muzzy 115gr 4 blade bh's.

I was lucky enough to take 4 deer this season, shot ran from 11 yards to 35 yards, and of the 4,3 were complete pass-thrus.The only reason the other wasn't was because I shot too high and made a spine shot,so I think penetration is more related to shot placement than bh type.As long as the bow you're shooting has enough ke,and shot placement is good,I don't think it matters what bh you use,of course it's got to be scary sharp.

By the way,very nice site!!

I have a big choice and I've been using the recurves the last few years. For hunting I like my Chek-Mate T/D II #55lb with Magnus 2 blade broadheads. It's the far one on the right.

I use a Hoyt Magna-Tech with the same broadhead sometimes but like the simplicity of the recurves.

Wow Nocked, those look like some fine recurves! Just what I've been thinking of getting..but I don't know the first thing about them. They look expensive!

archery setup
I shoot a High Country Supreme. It's about 10 yrs old so it's pretty heavy, but the power this thing has is unbelievable. Oh, and get this, it was one of the last good bows you could get with 2 cams. I shoot it at about 85 lbs with an overdraw. The arrows I use are XX75 2413 with a thunderhead 100 broadhead. I don't think I'll buy another bow until this one is completely destroyed.

Life itself is a dream within a dream.

Recurves
I shoot my recurves off the shelf with a glove or tab split finger. No sights or mechanical release. I don't "aim" like with a compound that has a peep and sight pin but rather use an "instinctive" method of "aiming". Very basically, I concentrate on what I want to hit, draw to my anchor and with good back tension let the release happen.

Instinctive shooting uses hand/eye co-ordination like shooting a basket or throwing a baseball or playing ping pong. It's a wonderful way to hunt and I never have to worry about my bow being out of tune.:)

I started using a recurve again a few years ago when I found my fiber-optic sight pins did not work in a dark blind; not enough light. They take much more practice than a compound to get good but it's fun to shoot again.
