What's Your Instrument?
Since this is the musicians group, we need to start talking some music! So who here plays an instrument? Or do you sing? What do you like to play/sing?
I have heard the cry of the gull on the shore, and my heart shall now rest in the forest no more... Yo ho! Yo ho! A pirate's life for me!

I don't play any instrument We have a piano at home and my mother had lessons when she was little but I was not very interested as a child and so I can't play a piano. I'd maybe have a chance to learn a little about playing a bass quitar if my brother would teach me and let me play on his bass (yea, sure, that'll happen).
I sing when I am alone but not in public after my music lessons ended at school. I think that I sing quite normally when I don't get too carried away - with some songs I turn the volume to max and then I sing then really loud and sometimes hit wrong-key.

1. I play the piano. I've loved it ever since I was a very little person and my parents got me this itty-bitty electric piano. And off I went. LOL, I still have that itty-bitty piano, but I play a full 88 key upright now.
2. About a month ago I learned how to play the recorder. It took me about all of two hours since I already knew how to read the music, and all the other necessities. All I had to learn was the finger positions to play each key.
3. I am singing solo in a few concerts this Christmas season. I've never taken official voice lessons though.
4. I can play the kazoo!

Hey Aurelin, I think everybody does that with the radio.
Wow Wil, you sound a lot like me! I sing and play piano, too.
I sang in high school choir all 4 years and was prone to losing my voice in the wintertime. It was so frustrating to not be able to use my voice that I pulled out my old recorder from when I was in the 4th grade. I figured out all the fingerings and now I can play just about anything I want to! My sister took up playing flute, and I found that my skills on the recorder translated very well to the flute. So now I can say that I play flute, although not as well as the recorder.

That's really neat! Do you do any composing of your own? (I know that's slightly off topic... )

I play the violin. when i was very little i played piano, but that was a long time ago... i still use it to make sure i'm playing the right note when i play new high ones. i sing in the church choir..... i've tried my cousin's flute, but i dont get to use it a lot.... i guess thats it. i tried to compose but it was too frustrating.

Very cool, Shorty! I took a strings class in college and got play on the violin and the viola. I must say, I do better with wind instruments.
Composing? Oh dear me, no. I've tinkered around a bit, but the only time I seem to come up with a half-way decent melody is when I am just humming around. And then, of course, I can't remember it an hour later. Lol, oh well!

Hehee, composing is way over my head. My brother has done a few songs or his band but that skill I haven't got. I have a real trouble coming up with rimes, for the love of god I can't come up with a decent poem or song but give me a prose thing to write and you have to stop me from writing tens of pages.

not in the musician's group but seriously thinking of asking if i can switch into it. anyway...
--play flute and attempt to play piccolo, usually with disastrously-out-of-tune results. ah well...
--play around on my guitar, still only have an acoustic (saving my pennies for an electric), basically self-taught.
--recorder...it's been a while. a long while.
can't sing to save my life but i try anyway. and absolutely refuse to sing by myself. and i definitely lack the hand/hand coordination to play piano. so flute and guitar is about it. anyone else?
