Hi! I though I would start a topic on this: "What's going on in your garden?" We surely are busy! It has already gotten up to 80 deg. here in GA! I just planted a Zinnia flower bed, and some Sweet alyssum around my roses. Then I weeded the Lilly bed all along the back sun-room windows. Our Daffodils have already bloomed and died, and now our Irises are blooming. The Canna lilys, Dahlias, and Daisys are just beginning to show their heads. The Red buds, Bradford pairs, and Dogwoods are all blooming, and beautiful Everything is green! I just love this time of year! Well, I can't wait to hear what all of you have to say! ~*~Shannon~*~ That you may become blameless and pure, children of God withou fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe. Up here in Canada, well..my family is about 2 weeks late this year, planting our tomatoes, normally they're in by now, but we have had lots of rain! So we're late We mostly have just regular vegetables, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, onions (which I love, so easy to harvest) beans (ugh, not so easy to harvest) peas, radishes...the list goes on and on. Though I am looking forward to canning, and jelling (sp?) This year I'm attempting "mint jelly" which is wonderful on lamb! BloomingInHisCare or Jenny

Hello! I thought I’d jump in and tell you what’s happening in our garden now. It’s really overflowing! We’ve just harvested our first corn this week, and oh, is it ever delicious! I’ve always loved corn on the cob, but to eat it in maybe 10 min. or so within picking it is especially wonderful! I think we’ll have to plant it again next year. We also have lots of green beans, and tomatoes, (I just love the big, meaty ones!) as well as peppers and carrots. So that is what’s happening here! ~Hannah ![]() "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." We're enjoying beans, summer squash, potatoes, and carrots. The tomatoes and a few watermelons are still coming. The past few years have been difficult for gardening because of the deer, grasshoppers, and weather. Speaking of deer, has anybody found a sucessful way to keep them out of the garden? We've tried garlic and shavings of Irish Spring Soap but it didn't deter them. Lindsey

Well, my cucumbers are starting to come on! It looks like I may get to sell some this year after all. There has been another plant growing in my cucumber patch that came up by itself early this year. I didn't know what it was, until I was moving some leaves around the other day. It's a cantaloupe!! I was so excited to discover a nice, medium sized melon grow there. There's just one big one so far. Lindsey, about the deer. Yes, we have found a very successful way of keeping the deer out, but you probably won't be interested. But we have learned that there are lots of things that deer won't eat, like corn, potatoes, cucumbers, and certain flowers. It has taken trial and error to figure out what they like and don't like. I'm sure you have already learned this. Atlanta |

Thanks for your suggestion, Atlanta. That is what we were figuring would be the only successful way to keep the deer out. They didn't bother our garden the first couple years but then the last two years they have been having quite a feast. That exciting to hear about your cucumbers coming. Will you be selling them at a Farmer's Market? We used to sell vegetables at a couple Farmer's Markets. It was quite an interesting experience! Happy Gardening! ~Lindsey

Hi, Lindsey! No, I'm not selling my cucumbers at a Farmer's Market. I don't think there is one in our area. But I work part time at a small produce store called Top Banana. Atlanta Edited by: Atlanta689 at: 9/12/03 4:40 pm |
