What's your favorite era? Hello All! In the past we've heard from a lot of ladies on the various eras of time, and the clothing they were making for reenactments. What is your favorite time period? Is it Regency, Colonial, Civil War, Edwardian, Victorian, Roaring Twenties, ect? Tell us why you like this time period best of all! What is it that inspires you? My favorite era is Victorian/Edwardian. I'm inspired by all the Godly writing, in the various magazines and books from the 1800s. I also love looking at the old photo albums and postcards and reading the inscriptions on the back. They all give a little glimpse into what life was like years ago. Family life seemed relaxed, yet mannerly, which is something we could use more of today! There is something good we can learn from all of the eras, which have passed. I look forward to hearing what your favorite time period is, and why it inspires you! I'd best be getting to bed now seeings that it's almost morning here! Blessings to you, in Jesus! Re: What's your favorite era?
My favorite era? Hmmmm.... Probably Regency for me. I just love the clothes and fashions.
I also like the hoops in the Civil War era. The dresses are lovely! I'd love to do some reenacting, but up here in MA, there's not much to do. Oh well.... LIC, Krista Edited by: YeshuasTikvah at: 1/31/03 12:03:53 pm |

Re: What's your favorite era? My favorite time period is either the 1830's/1840's, or the 1950's/1960's. My reason for liking the earlier date is the beautiful gowns and dresses the women wore. I also love the books that were written during this period in history. The way of speaking then was very poetic and beautiful and I find that I am of a keener mind after refreshing myself by reading some of the literature of that period. I like the 1950's, as it was a time, it seems, when family life was upheld as something good and honorable. They were the years my parents were born in, and the stories they tell of their childhood cause me to long for the same kind of family memories. I also like the New Look brought about directly after the war, and in effect in the 50's. The dresses then were so pretty! God Bless you, Sarah "But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord because He has dealt bountifully with me." Psalm 13:5-6 |

Re: What's your favorite era? No question....my favorite era is the prairie era. With the long full praire dresses, the oregon trail, homesteads on the prairie lands, etc. I would love to have lived in that era. I can't even imagine being a women on the oregon trail...all she went through. But I would have loved to live out west, walking on the prairie, etc. Kind of romantic to me I do relalize that times were so much harder then...it would take a lot of getting use to Aja Nicole~~ ![]() |

Re: What's your favorite era? Hello ladies, My favourite is definitely the Antebellum era (circa 1810-1861),particularly in the South (I am a Mississippian). If any of y'all have ever visited the houses & other buildings from this era (we have plenty of them in Mississippi) you'll understand.I also love the Christian, chivalaric, agrarian culture of the South at that time (sorry....I can get a bit carried away on this subject).I also enjoy reading about the Late Unpleasantness (otherwise known as the War Between the States). Emilee- I do enjoy reading & learning about the Victorian/Edwardian era, too. Well,I suppose I must go! In Christ, Emma |

Re: What's your favorite era? I love The American Revolutionary War era!! Almost any book or movie set during that period is a hit with me (note the word almost ![]() "Be Thou praised, my Lord, with all Thy creation. Above all, the sun, who gives the day, and lightens us therewith. And he is beautiful and radiant, with great splendor; of Thee, O Lord Most High, he bears similtude. Be Thou praised, my Lord, of the moon and stars. In the heaven Thou hast formed them, clear and precious, and comely. Be Thou praised, my Lord, of the earth, which sustains us, and has us in rule; and produces divers fruits with colored flowers and herbs." --St. Francis of Assisi |

Re: What's your favorite era? Hi! I haven't been on here in a while! My favorite era...I LOVE Civil War, and do a lot with it. My friends and I have a group called the Ladies Aid Society. We give a lot of programs about the ladies of the Civil War. I also really like Empire, as you can tell by my user name! It is really cold at our house, at least what we call cold in DE. It's about 30 degrees! Jordan, but just Jo! Came but for Friendship, and took away Love. |

Re: What's your favorite era? Well, I love the fashions and such in the Regency era, and I love studying the political history in the time of the American Revolution. (Actually, I love ALL history! Besides my favourite, I think ALL eras come in second! My all-time favourite is that of the Civil War. I am born and bred in GA and I have visited many antembellum plantations around here (My great-aunt lives in one that has been preserved...I LOVE to go and visit her and roam about the house and grounds). I definitely agree with Emma on this one. If I were to re-enact, I would DEFINITELY do the Civil War era. "There are few people of whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more I am dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief in the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of either merit or sense" |

Re: What's your favorite era? My favorite era, I can't pick because I like so many. Here are a few that I like: I like the Medieval ages because of the romance of that era. Princesses, knights in shining armor, kings, and queens. I think it must of been a very interesting time to live in. So much was happening during that time. I like the Regency era because of the dresses and balls and parties. Such excitement in their lives. I like the Civil War era. The dresses! They knew what it meant to have manners, too. The gentlemen treated a lady as such, too. And I like the Western era. How exciting to live then. To go out west and start a new life, not knowing what you'll find. Bandits, Indians, disease. The men also treated any good women right, too. Always treated them with the utmost respect. All the eras are like that, except for this one. What went wrong? Now I believe everyone will think I'm a silly romantic fool. Oh, well. In His love, Corri |
