Where is rock?
I've just finished watching the Kerrang awards.
What the hell is going on?
I just saw Metallica call Linkin Park and Sum41 an 'inspiration' ! That's not even the half of it.
I went to the Kerrang awards about five years ago and when I looked around me I saw Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Dickinson, Lemmy and I remember getting a very close look at Marilyn Manson (because someone tripped me and I went flying into him).
But every year it gets worse.
It's like the fuckin Brit awards now.
what do you expect? It's Kerrang!. It represents the commercial side of metal, Linkin Park etc. Occasionaly they have a decent band in it. I stopped buying it years ago and Metal Hammer too. I just buy Terrorizer now.

Poodle shame
True.
Everyone is also going nuts about the Darkness at the minute. It's quite funny but it is just Spinal Tap really and I think some things are better left in the past.
I was never a poodle rock fan. It was one of the most deplorable phases in music. And fashion.
All the poodle rockers thought all the men thought they were cool and that all the women wanted to shag them. But I think really the women quite liked their hairdos and all the men thought they were gods and wanted to shag them. It's just ridiculous.
Re: Poodle shame
I saw TotP2 on wednesday and they had a perm rock special going on. I have to say I loved it I'm affraid. Becky and I were in our element and cheering at pretty much every song they played.
Yeah OK so we're sad.

Re: Poodle shame
Helen the thing is the women were shagging them. Those bands of the 70's and 80's really did live the rock life style. Lots of drugs, booze and sex.
I'm quite a big fan of Def Leppard. They were the first band I ever liked and I got 'Pyromania' on tape when I was quite young.

Poodle shame
Oh dear Andy that's bad.
But, we all have our music taste blunders and you are fully entitled to yours.
I must say though, the rock and roll lifestyle needs to be lived with a sense of finesse and charm for my tastes. Like the Stones. Poodle rockers were just young dumb and full of cum. It's no better than Robbie Williams.
Fair play to them I'm sure they had fun but Spinal Tap hit the nail on the head. In fact Def Leppard had such a lack of a sense of irony about themselves and overinflated sense of their importance that they stomped out of the Spinal Tap premier in a huff because they felt personally insulted.
As for the women. Well some women will shag anything and when someone's famous that's the aphrodisiac for groupies. Have you seen 'the Metal years, the Decline of the Western World'? (I hope that's the full title). That says it all for me about how laughable poodle rock is.
Don't get me wrong I'm not attacking anyone for liking that stuff but it is all a bit silly. My friend Nathan is the biggest Motley Crue and Def Leppard fan I've ever met and we used to have lighthearted arguments about this a lot. He sees how humorous and daft it all is now, but still loves it.

I heard that the bit that Def Leppard stomped out at was the 'cucumber down the trousers at the airport' scene. Mind you this could all be rock myth.
Re: Where is rock?
Wow... Poodle Rockers. I have never heard that term before! I always called them Dirt Rockers. I also have heard them called Hair Bands. I think I like the term Poodle Rocker the best so far!
