Why did "Mad eye moody" teach Harry the 3 curses?
I mean, why did Crouch's son, who was pretending to be Moody teach Harry the 3 deadly outlawed curses?
Did Dumbledore really authorize this? Harry learned to resit one of them, did Crouch intend this? Also, why did he teach them hexes and stuff? It just let Harry have a fairer chance of beating Voldemort, but why would he want that? Please tell me your thoughts on this.
You know, I was wondering that as well. Maybe it was because he had to seem like he was on the good side, instead of on Voldemort's side, to ensure nobody, absolutely no- one could suspect him.
Maybe he just preferred fair play, so that when Harry came against Voldemort, at least Harry would know what was in store for him, be prepared, so you could truly judge which was the better of the two, since they both had the same knowledge of curses. Because earlier in the Goblet of Fire, Barty turned Draco into a bouncing ferret, because he didn't like the fact that Malfoy had attacked Harry when Harry's back was turned- unfair play.

You know, you might be right there. I had kind of wondered that myself. But then, he teaches them not only how to resist that one, but about other curses, too, so it could be that he was just trying to cover his tracks as a teacher. I mean, he probably didn't know that Voldemort was going to try THAT curse on him, after all. He probably hoped that Voldemort would just go with the straght Avra Kevadra (sp?) curse.

Maybe he was trying to sike(sp?) Harry out, knowing that it was the Avra Kedarva curse that killed his parents, and almost him...And I know the Crutacius(sp?)curse sure got to Neville...
Or maybe Crouch was really trying to act like Moody. From what we've heard about Moody being paranoid, it sounds like the kind of thing he might actually do in class.

Didn't Moody teach Harry hexes and counterspells so that he could get to the end of the maze safely and be transported to Voldemort so he could finish him off??
That's what I thought Crouch confessed in the end ... Right?

I think the fake moody tought Harry the three unforgiveable curses to make sure he won, but i don't know why Dumbledore would allow it.......

According to Moody, Dumbledore told him to show these curses to them, so I guess that's part of it. And I agree that wanting Harry to get through the maze easily was part of it. And perhaps he just wanted some practice. Ick!

But-Moody isn't really Mad-Eye Moody. He's a corrupt supporter of Voldemort. He didn't necesarily ask Dumbledore for permission, even if he said he did.

back to that quote- well, this is just my own opinion, but I highly doubt Dumbledore would set a challenge up that would be so hard that Harry and co., would need to use the Unforgivable Curses to get through.. I know that Moody wasn't the real Moody, but even Moody must have known that the maze wouldn't be that hard. Or maybe I'm just confused- did harry use the curses during the maze? I can't remember..

Actually...I don't think Harry used any of the curses in the maze...and even if he tried, he probably wouldn't have been magickally strong enough to do so...

But that's just my humble opinion...
Harry didn't.......the book told exactly what happened. Harry uses the forbidden curses was not one of them. Crouch used the cructious (sp?) curse on Viktor to make him use the curses...........But, Harry heard Viktor say it and he went and helped Cedric. So tha t brings us to the same question: Why did moody teach Harry the curses? If Crouch Jr. didn't teach Harry the curses, Harry wouldn't have regonized it and therefore wouldn't know to go help cedric................

okay, I think that Gypsy has a point on Maybe the fake moody was trying to act like the real Moody, by acting MAD. Crazy. MAD-eye moody. key word MAD. it isn't exactly sane to teach students the unforgiveable curses, for some of them are illegal, even for old wizards to use!
