Why do we write fan fic
My partner asked me the other day why we write fan fiction.

For me, because it allows me to see in my head how I think that a series should of finished, for example seeing seven & lanna together, or Buffy & Faith

Fanfic
I guess I've always been a daydreamer, long car journeys for me were times to invade other worlds, become a neuro surgeon, cure cancer and win seven Oscars in one evening (whilst trying desperately to forget I get car sick). Fan fic writing is really just an extension of that but with existing characters standing in for the imaginery people of my daydreams.

It can be kind of fun too... I'm thinking more of the shorter stories where you just plonk yourself down in front of the computer for an hour while you're waiting for someone or half watching 'Midsommer Murders' on tv, and let your mind wander and come up with a load of silliess that makes you smile. [I may be in the minority but going back and re-reading some of my old short, shorts still makes me grin]

Feedback is nice too, but it's never been the thing that gets me writing.

I'm not sure if that answered the question or not, so I'll go away now and think on it... probably something I should have done before I started :)

Re: Fanfic
Dear Prince, I mean the artist formerly known as Ralst!

I agree with all the above, but I also like to write to keep my eye in (hopefully to do my phd, if the sods give me funding). I also would (hopefuly) like to get published one day, and thats not just in political journals, and phds!!

The problem is, because of my dyslexia, I have problems formulating what I have got pictured in my head, so it comes out in bits and bobs.

This of course makes it difficult doing course work, but most uni, or the ones I have been to have special dis-compensation!

Off on a tangent
Universities are usually pretty good about providing help or compensation for people with dyslexia, which is great, but I still think it must be so much harder if you do have it and have to tackle a massive thesis or whatnot. But then again one of my lecturers is dyslexic and he's written a copious amount... books and articles.

I'm always amazed at the non-native-English speakers who still managed to write fanfic in English and of such high quality.

I guess I'd love to be published someday, not a book or anything, but maybe a short article or bit of silliness...I like doing the silliness things, life's too serious as it is. Now all I need to do is find someone who'll pay me for rambling nonsense and I'd be set for life ;)

You need to get a lecture paper published, that's the best
way for getting rambling nonsense published!

By the way what's the name of the lecturer?
