Will Travel To See...
Tallyn prompted this thread.

I think traveling for shows fits into 2 categories. Category #1, travel that can be accomplished in a car (say 3-6 hours) and category #2, travel that requires a plane.

So what's it for you?

For me,

#1 - Almost anyone that I like that I've seen before

#2 - Matt Nathanson, Damien Rice, maybe Mraz.

Considering I am in MD (about 4 hours from home) at this very moment, the answer is simple:

Ari Hest :)

Re: Will Travel To See...
I will go see just about anyone that i'm slightly interested in if they are playing in town. Traveling to downtown Dallas is still a bit of a drive.

Traveling three hours or so? I have only done that for John Mayer. I don't know if ACL counts cause we were going to see many people. That was five hours. I think I can defnitely say that I would travel just about anywhere in a six hour radius to see Matt Nathanson. I would probably go three hours to see Ari.

Traveling by plane has (so far) only been to see John. In future years, if I get more into it, I could see myself traveling to see a few other bands as well. You know, if I come into some money. :)

Re: Will Travel To See...
My list as of today:

#1 -- Ummm, there are no places within 6 hours of me, except Spokane... know of any acts going through Spokane anytime soon? (Ok, The Fray will be there next week, but the boys upstairs have completely turned me off of them--they've got "how to save a life" on repeat as I type this. I considered seeing them a few times in Denver back in January, but that would have been a 7 hour drive-- #2.) If so and it's on a weekend and the weather isn't crap, I'll be there.

#2 --
***Well, since I've travelled cross country twice and another two times this upcoming Feb to see him, John pretty much has to be on this list. Love watching him play live... not really interested in his studio cuts anymore, but live is a completely different story.
***Ari is now on my list. I officially love his music like no other (have no idea what he looks like -- maybe I'll google him one of these days. But unlike Mayer, he sounds like he's an attractive fella. ;) )
***After hearing Heather's live show, Mr. Nay sounds like an absolute riot! I'd fly out to catch one of his shows.
***IMOGEN! I need to see that girl! Her albums are beautiful! I'm really curious to see how her songs pan out in a live experience.
***I'm still having a torrid love affair with Damien Rice's music. If he's on tour this summer, I'm there.
***If Radiohead goes on tour again, I'll be there... a couple of times. I'm kicking myself for not seeing them sooner. Just seeing Thom alone wouldn't be the same.

(When I move to Europe)
***I'm madly in love with Sebastien Tellier. I fully plan to take a train over to Paris to catch one of his shows.
***Bjork, I love how she's brought the most amazing elements of classical music into mainstream music.
***Sigur Ros is beyond incredible. I'd almost fly over to Europe now to catch one of their shows... if only time and money weren't factors.
***Sezen Aksu is my homegirl. I'm catching a train down to Istanbul at the earliest convenience. I have no idea what she's singing about (Although I was told Kahpe Kader is about coffee-- my high school buddy is Turkish), her music is captivating and really moves me.

Re: Will Travel To See...

Ok, yeah, he's hot.

My first traveling experince was when I drove out to Atlanta last December to see John at Eddie's Attic (Full Road trip diary over in the JM discussion pages... not much about JM or the show though-- I think I was too drunk to really recall that). Before that, I would have never thought to travel vast distances for a show. But (as detailed in that mega post), I really needed something positive in my life at that time and the show wasn't too far from my parents new place, so I went.

Then, I flew out to Houston-- geez, just a little over a month ago... seems so much longer!-- to see John, but really it was to get away and experience something with a bit of familiarity. I had so much fun jet-setting that I decided to plan for a couple more shows. I made a half-hearted promise to a friend at school in Bloomington, IN that the next time I decide to jet-set for a Mayer show (she enjoys him, too) that I'd visit her neck of the woods. Little did I know that would be so soon. I'm really looking forward to seeing her again and we are going to have a blast in Chicago-- the concert's more of a formality. And OKC? Well, it's the week before my birthday and it's the closest show to NM. I've told my peeps that we'll have extra tickets to sell, so it's on them to drag their asses out of NM to visit with me. We'll see.

So, even though I understand that you're not really a fan of Mayer, Brett, he's helped broaden my life experiences. I can't wait for this coming summer! I can hardly wait to travel to see more of the people on my list. Destinations that I'm looking out for are: Boston, NYC, Atlanta, Dallas/Austin/Houston, Philly, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, ABQ and Denver.

Well, you've mentioned it a couple times. ;)

Although, I'm intrigued how you know of an existing tape of an unmentioned show that exists... (I've got my fingers crossed that no one has my drunkass yelling at him on the first night on tape.)

All I need to know is whether or not the tape of the first night is floating somewhere out there. I don't want to listen to any of them, mind you. I just need confirmation that my drunkass cursings aren't available to a select group of people. It's embarrassing, really.

Thank you! I needed to hear that... I've been stressing that one for a while-- ever since I heard that a top secret tape existed.

On another note, I'm going to start a Sebastien Tellier Thread-- complete with 4 albums. I love the man and I've bought several copies of his ablums, so I'm free to share a few, right?

:lol So sad, but true. I can listen to his La Ritornelle for hours on end...

Sendspace is a bitch and says the upload will take another hour and a half. I guess that's what I get for cramming 4 albums in one file.

I travelled over three hours to see JM...does that count?

And I would do so again.

Or fly.

So, eat it, Brett.

Re: Will Travel To See...
Well, I've driven to central/Southern IL and into Wisconsin to see Mayer, so he's the only one I've really ever "traveled" for.

I don't consider going to downtown Chicago travelling, really.
But that's where I've seen the majority of my other artists/bands.

And if I had unlimited resources, I'd fly to see just about anybody I like.

Just out of curiousity, did anyone bother to download the Sebastien albums? I'm interested to hear what others think about him. Positive or Negative feedback.
