Windows restart??? :S
I've just re-install Win 98 but I've found that when I choose the restart windows option from the 'START' menu, windows closes down,I get the 'windows is shutting down' message screen and then nothing,my system just freezes up.Can anyone explain why this is happening?
However, it can generally be cured by doing a Windows Update and installing all the relevant patches and updates.
If you don't have broadband you might have to look through loads of back magazine PCs to find most of these updates, otherwise you might need to do it over a day or so, being carefull to do the updates in batches.

Re: Windows restart??? :S
Sometimes fast shutdown can cause problems for Windows 98 machines. You can turn that off by clicking here and following the instructions: support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;187607. Also some viruses will cause shutdown problems. But fast shutdown is probably your problem.
Re: Windows restart??? :S
Mmmmmmmmm.Well it restarts okay now although it hangs when I try and shut down.It reaches the 'Its ok to turn off your PC' but when I press the on/off button of my PC nothing happens, odd.I guess that makes the power button look a bit suspect which is strange as it works when turning it on.
I'm confused!?!

I'll be installing Win 2000 soon so that might sort the problem out.Its only started since I installed Win 98 first edition.I have installed all the upgrades and packs but it has'nt helped

Wow,what would I do without computer forums,it works perfectly now.I dont know what power options I've changed in BIOS or why,is there anyway I can change them back?
Re: Windows restart??? :S
IN bios you can alwasy select restore default (most bios settings) that changes everything you've changed to what the manufacturer set for the board.
