Working for the man....
I work for a corporation. I work for a multimillion dollar industry buisness that makes money left and right by screwing people over.
Worse still, I'm in a mgmt position in this store.
I'm having troubles with my current position with the fact that due to buisness being slow, I have to cut the hours, thereby taking money from the people I've hired.
Then again, I'm payed well, don't get me wrong, I worked very hard for my position, harder than some other people holding the same position as we speak, but I feel like an ahole for cutting the hours of my co-workers, some of whom I consider friends.
I don't know why I'm saying all this, have you ever held a job that made you feel like an ahole and a hypocrite?
I'm going to art school, I'm in a band, I hate big buisness, but then I'm hired by one...

I don't think there is anything wrong with having a conscience as you appear to have - infact it is a very admirable of you to care about your co-workers However, my husband has been in this position many times - he is the Operations Director of a multi million ££'s corporation - he also has worked extremely hard to get to this position and we have made many sacrifices along the way. He has come home to me fretting about the budget figures for the years and how he is going to have to cut jobs etc as the jobs are no longer viable etc. etc. His main priority in life is making sure that he provides for his family so he does what he has to do. Business is business at the end of the day no matter how cold and calculating it is - "dog eat dog" and "its a jungle out there" are terms that spring to mind.

Re: Working for the man....

I've never purposely done anything that I didn't approve of, but that's a very personal decision that we all must make for ourselves.
If, in your own best judgement, your present profession is getting you to the places that you wish to be, then any moral qualms that you may have are between YOU & your chosen area of spiritual beliefs, if any.
Speaking only for myself, I am now considering "selling out"...
My entire life, I have TOTALLY despised wearing anything even slightly resembling a suit and/or a tie, but in this day & age, NO professional business owner would even look twice at me, before rushing me to the door, past all of the frightened secretaries.
You have to make your OWN decisions, free ash.
As long as YOU can live with them, you should be just fine, & I wish you all of the luck and perseverence in the world.
