My favorite is dBpowerAMP it is very light and easy to use. The only time it doesn't work is when the CD is a CD extra then you cannot see the .cda songs from the explorer menu tree or my computer so it is difficult to grab to songs, when that happens I use Nero (which is not free)
AMP converts cda to wav faster than nero and faster than all the others I have tried: exact copy, burn 2 disk, and many others.
Their home page is:

Once installed you open my computer insert a CD. Double click cd-rom drive. Highlight track or tracks and right click mouse button select convert. From the menu select wav. Then the next screen will prompt you for settings. I select CD quality. Make sure you save it to a folder other than original, since you cannot write onto a finalized CD. When you done hit convert in a minute or so you'll have a song, in ten a CD!
Hint: When I make Mp3's I make them from wav's not cd's. I get more done at once and they sound ten times better, I figure the spinning of the cd makes a difference when coding an Mp3 and not a wav.
