FOrd Sierra
Speaking of Sierra Sapphire's,

In 1990, the last year of Group A in England, Robb Gravett won the BTCC in a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth four door! This came after spending 1989 in an RS500 he bought from Dick Johnson, but he was beaten to the post by John Cleland in a Super Touring Vauxhall Astra......

Re: Ford Sierra
Hey guys,

If I did decide to get a Sierra, knowing that there'd be issues importing the car to Australia etc, does anyone know anyone who imports cars?

I just like to query how much it'll cost before I do make any decisions...

David Patterson and Geoff Fear are both in that business in differing ways and may be able to advise in some way. Both these gents are reasonably regular visitors and posters here, so hopefully they will be able to help a little!

Re: Ford Sierra
Thanks RDM,

I'll contact both of them and see what happens there.... I guess I just would like to drive something that's different in Improved Production...

Re: Ford Sierra
It won't be an RS500 Cosworth if that's what you're thinking LOL! As much as i loved watching them as a kid and followed Dick as well, I'll stick with the RS Cosworth.

I could get an XR4i, modify the twin rear windows to the single version and put RS Cosworth gear on it! It'd look alright, unless the body has to remain as is...

Re: Ford Sierra
Its amazing how much better the later ones looked, I would think the effort in changing an XR4Ti to a Cossie would make the extra purchase price a better option?

What do these things sell for? Can you get them from NZ?

FWIW
Sean Farrell (sp?) imported his Integra Type R from the UK as a race car, I think he gets on rarely, but it might be worth tracking him down (he is in WA)

Re: Ford Sierra
Another option would be to see if you can find an ex racer in Australia.

I know a bloke called Mike Ceveri had one of the (I think) ex ANZ Sierras as a Sports Sedan for a while. If I recall correctly he didn't chop it up at all, ran it basically Group A stock. Last I heard he still had it, and I haven't seen it run down here in Vic for 6 years plus. Have no idea on a contact for him, though.

I have come in late on this one.. I would normally have some fantastic whitty remark for you all about the Smith thing........but alas nothing...

But you should try booking a motel under A Smith and see how you go !! Many a booking was never held on various trips... It is funny the first time.....not so much after that...:D

I remember when I used to see a few Sierras on the streets.......what happened ? I have not seen one for a very long time. however I did get passed by a certain Benson and Hedges one at OP a few years back.....sheeshh it was quick in a straight line.

I always thought the Ceveri Sports Sedan was the damaged shell from the Don Smith OXO roll over at Sandown '87, that i mentioned earlier, and that it was just a silloette like a proper sports sedan.

The O'brien Aluminium Sierra Sports Sedan (Ex Bond Caltex car) was closer to group A spec, only differing when they chucked the hand grenade Cosworth, for a more reliable ex NASCAR BUSH Chev V6.

You may even be right Duane, I'm willing to admit to being wrong. But the mail I have is that the Ceveri car was ex ANZ. I could find out, will ask about this weekend.

Weren't there two ANZ cars, both ex-Eggenburger (sp?) for Moffart? I think Hansford was the other driver...

Re: Ford Sierra
I seem to remember the Ceveri car with big flares on it, but I might be mistaken, the Sandown rolled car did turn into a Sport Sedan, but I dont know by whom, Bob Tweedy had his Turbo and Non Turbo pair, dont know if he still has the non-turbo one, but he competes in historics in the PJR/GSR Turbo one regularly, guessing its still GPA trim, would be excessively expensive to buy though Id think.

Paul, I'm not 100% sure either on the Sports Sedan, but i'm sure that car was around, while Sierra's were still running in group A. It would be good to know the exact detail!! ;)

Tweedie's car can be yours for a mere 70,000 pounds sterling!! :eek :eek :eek

Re: Ford Sierra
I've already looked at those listing on the UK Ebay site.... There's a few that I like, so i'll keep my options open!

AS for those Group A examples, Bob Tweedie's Peter Jackson Sierra is genuine, the other Sierra he raced in Super Touring he sold at the end of 1995 and was taken over by Queenslander Kurt Kratzmann. At the end of 1996, the car was pensioned off as it was ineligible for Super Touring.

The Peter Hills example was bought by a Sydneysider named Neville Simmons and he restored it back to original Group A Benson & Hedges trim as it was an ex-B&H machine. I had the fortunate opportunity to ride in it at full speed two years ago around Oran Park... WOW!!!! Now I know why they were so quick!

Queenslander Gary Hinton, who owns the Bob Morris 1979 A9X Torana owns one of the Dick Johnson Sierras. Dick still owns the car he and John Bowe drove to victory at Bathurst in 1989 and then to second place in 1992 and sits pride of place in his museum at Yatala.

Re: Ford Sierra
The latest Street Machine has a story about a Tasmanian (Lonnie?) Museum that has an early DJR sierra in GP A trim. So I guess there are a few around. Steve Masterton had one in the mid 90s, (with no turbo)
