I hope everyone knows that the system used is NOT the backtotheunderground judging system. There is a big difference when done right. We would be able to explain everything within the system, and youll be able to see the totalled scores, so in the case that a judge was being biased, your gonna see it right from the bat.
And for that battle we just watched, illmanners won with moves. Supernaturalz won in dancing and style. Some people who are new and still think bboying is all about moves are gonna think illmanners won. Peeps who have been in the game long enough and looks and dancing and bboy style before moves are gonna think supernaturalz won. yep, thats about it.
OOPS I MEANT IT IS "NOT"THE BACK TO THE UNDERGROUND SYSTEM
zero gravity
hey kaos, thanks for battling w/ me.
our team was good, kaos and mae hem does have a ring to it, huh? . next time, we'll @#%$ @#%$ up and win it all - LOL,
older catz
And some older cats know that a battle is RAW
F*uck what the judges think and say if there's 200+ peeps in the building goin crazy over how one crew (illmanners) is roastin in the other crew (supernatz)
"F*uck the categories and all that point your toe @#%$ meng!, that crew killed it" ---Is what some older cats would think
...its not like illmanners went in on some gymnast @#%$ ...they had everythin and they were rockin the crowd...fu*ck that doesn't deserve anythin?!!? please men....talk to some older cats about rockin the jam....and how important that is...

robberies and crashes
ROBBERY
ok, i just watched that battle and i'm not sure who won... i would lean to supernatz, cause i was really enjoying their tops and style, but illmannerz moves were sick... so it could go either way... as far as i can see that means nobody got robbed no matter which way the judging went...
people only get robbed very very rarely... i think at least half the battles i watch, they could go either way... and another third are pretty close... you only get robbed when you smoke someone and you still lose.
so if people want to say, "damn, i really think we won that, i kind of feel like the judges should have seen that too..." that's cool, people might take another look at the battle and think about it... if you come on here saying you got robbed though, people aren't going to take it seriously.
CRASHING
as far as crashing goes... when i first started watching battles and tapes, i was all about seeing crazy moves too, but the longer i watch the more it ruins it for me to see people crashing...
think about it this way breaking is art and art is about magic, about expressing something... if you're watching a movie and it's fantastic, but then the screen falls to the floor, you remember you're in a theatre and that you have to by groceries later, even if they come back and fix it and it's a good movie technically, the magic is gone, you aren't emotionally caught up anymore...
Re: GROW UP!
@#%$ the judging system. this isn't a miss america pageant. someone should throw a jam where the CROWD decides on who won by making some noise. if you get 3 mans to take their own bias opinions on what bboying truly is and judge other cats on that, OF COURSE YOUR GOING TO HAVE PROBLEMS! this points @#%$ is wack. you may as well get a @#%$ boxing ring and a bell to start the battle because that's what bboying is turning into.
Re: ha ha ha
ok guys... i wasn't there but i've read enough to make a few points...
Being that I know what the scene is generally like in TO and how people break for the most part... let me say, breaking has been going in a lot of directions over the years but recently it is really coming back to its "BBOY" roots and now competitions are being judged in the USA like real bboy jams, where you gotta listen to the MUSIC to win... basically you can do 500 blowups, but if the other crew does a SICK set to the MUSIC then he will probably win.
Blowups are great... but they have to be used WITHIN the realm of bboying, so it better be clean and it better be accenting your entire run. (ill illustrate later)
Also, someone mentioned perfection... and sayin this aint the olympics.... well guess what? You gotta be perfect!
You don't fall on your face in a battle and try to say you still won... if you fell, then thats probably why you lost right there. If you can't do your moves without falling then you shouldn't be doing them in battles yet. One of the most basic fundamental rules of battling is just that: Only use moves you've perfected. Hell that is one of the best strategies in bboying. If you are battling a crash master, then you just do simple @#%$ nice and clean and let them beat THEMSELVES by crashing. I see this all the time in 1v1 battles down here.
If you think you can't aim for perfection in battles then you are selling yourself short. In my crew if anyone crashes or messes up then they will not hear the end of it. It really isnt that hard to stay clean. A battle is not a battle at practice... a battle means its GO TIME, you gotta be on your @#%$!
and on the tricks vs style tip:
At rocksteady anniversary, Flo Mo beat X-Fenz ... Xfenz were doing blowups and flomo were just doing footwork n dancing. The reason they won is that like I said before... flomo was using the music, was staying PERFECTLY clean, and was doing burns. Xfenz were just trying to battle like they normally do using tricks and not trying to have perfect showmanship overall. We knew before it was over that Flo Mo took that. And then the next round, my crew beat flo mo. The reason is we knew what we needed to do, which was do everything THEY did, and then blow it up on top of that with blowups... thats how you use blowups to beat style n foundation.. you first outdo their style and foundation and then you top it off with those blowups to seal the win.
take this all with a grain of salt, im jus trying to put in my 2 cents to help yall for nextime.
allllsoooo.. ANDDDEEEL it was good seein ya at RSC anniv brotha! you were rockin that @#%$ in the cyphers.
Re: ha ha ha
and i just watched that battle clip... i give it to snc just BARELY... because of some of the shakiness in the other crew. (aka small crashes, hesitations, etc) Neither crew stood out, so it was small things that count. snc was listenin to the music more, although I was slapping my forehead at BOTH crews for not hitting some of the lyrics and beats in there! shame on you guys :-P
as for the elbow airtrack to elbow pose... he hit it pretty dope at the end but he had to repeat the run to do it. You dont repeat runs. If he had messed up the first one and done a DIFFERENT blowup to save it... that would have been much better and perhaps in my mind called for a tie breaker.
Re: ha ha ha
So once again the problems start. Actually Bass I was just sayn dis @#%$ sarcastically so some of the older @#%$ bboys will see how they look on this board throwing hate nd judging who the @#%$ happns to b real and loves hip hop. How are you suppose to have a scene when dickheads walk around hating ever one in it and people listen and copy because they think hes some founder or because hes oldschool. And you know who I talking about. time for these guys to grow up and let the new generation take over toronto because the new generation is good in all aspects while some of the old have @#%$ top rocks and ugly gimikee battle moves
