Re: names of back up band members
Went to show in Houston Verizon Theater. One problem the guitar player was playing air guitar. As I was on the front row not one lick or string was hit from his. Waz-up with that.

Went to show in Houston Verizon Theater. The guitar player was playing air guitar. He never hit a string or played one lick. He did do vocals. But air guitar at a live concert don't get it. I was on the front row so I know what I saw. Waz-up with that?
Air guitar
This tour does not have Rohn Lawrence on guitar. Rohn is in the upper echelon of musician. There is no competion or comparison to make.Hence there is less guitar work and more piano and percussion. The sound is still solid and Boney works harder than ever. Props to him for putting out an excellent product. The new guitarist can really sing and believe me voice is an instrument as well.
The band
Boney still puts on an awesome show. Yes, the make up and chemistry of the band is slightly different; however, the sound is just as awesome as always. The loss of Rohn on the guitar is a slight setback. However, the addition of Sam Simms on the bass more than makes up as he is a phenomenal musician in his own right. Besides, Norris Jones on the guitar and vocals is still a good tight fit. He also brings a slight youthfulness to the show and I just love it. Boney was doing the damn thing as always and I for one will continue to see him no matter where he plays. I am a boney fan for life.
Norris Jones
I saw Boney in Jacksonville on the 28th and the whole band was incredible. Boney's bands have an incredible sound that is one of the best of any touring band I've ever heard and I've been going to CJazz/SmoothJazz concerts for over 20 years..
The bands are tight and there is this intangible sound..I'm a sucker for multiple keyboards anyway. And it is such a joy to see Luis Conte onstage..he does percussion on just about every important contemporary jazz release out there.
Norris Jones is a star..he adds so much to the band in terms of both muscianship and showmanship. His presence "Down Ages" the whole experience which is really improtant right now because people who haven't experienced SJ live think it is greying rapidly (look at the guys in SJ radio..most of them look like AARP poster material). This was my 8th Boney concert since 1996 and I like Rohn Lawrence but he just doesn't have the intangibles that Norris does..Anyone who has experienced a concert knows different..so take your friends

I realize this post is old but I just found this site, checking out tour dates for 05. I ran across the comment that air guitar was being played in Houston. My reply to this is NO WAY. Norris Jones is a true journeyman in the music biz with stints in back up bands of Tone,Tony,Toni, Aliyah, Raphael Sedic and many other top R and B acts as well as tons of studio work. To the gentleman who made the post, the humidity from the bayou's in Houston coupled with the spirits of the evening may have altered your eye to ear coordination on this one. Looking forward to seeing Boney again at Chastain Park in Atlanta this summer.
Norris Jones

Hey Roz, mjacobs,
We saw Boney with Norris last year in Las Vegas, and like all the reviews said, The Band Kicked A$$!
Norris, with that infectious smile, and jammin riffs, keeps the rest of the band moving at top RPM.
But Boney is the Man! and the word from "Reading, PA."
is his show is still "Fantastic"
We have to wait till June, to see him at the Hollywood Bowl,
Who's going to see him next? Are you guys ready?

Hey LIWings!
Yeah the Vegas show last year, was Da Bomb!
Are you going to the Sacramento Show?
They just added a show at Berkeley in July!
It's not going to be easy getting front row seats at the Hollywood Bowl (Playboy Jazz Fest).
Hey! South Carolina!, Tampa Florida!
Boney's coming! let's Hear from Ya'all!!!
Clearwater SAT April 23 Concert
I took a 49 year girlfriend to the Smooth Jazz Fest in Clearwater last night...it was her first concert EVER. She has been deaf for many years and just got her first hearing aids a few months ago. We ended up next to the stage and it was a concert to remember for all times. Boney and the Boys were in the zone! Although I too noticed the air guitar when the lead was singing. Regardless the tunes made my heart oh so happy and I danced, danced, danced. Judy from Bradenton, FL.
