I think that JK was trying to distance the reader from the character. That only aided in my frustration when he died, though. I felt cheated - she had deviated so far from the real Sirius, and then killed him!

Sirius...
Actually, we don't know exactly what the curtain is. We believe that it's a place where spirits haunt, but we can't be sure. And although Dumbledore says that Sirius will not return, we do not know for a fact that he's dead (dear me, I've been reading way too many Harry Potter "conspiracy" theories). I think that we have not seen the end of Sirius Black, from what J.K. Rowling has said in some interviews. She could obviously be leading the listeners on, but she made it sound as though there was a very good chance that somehow Black would find a way back to Harry.
I think it would be great if it turned out that Neville was really the "one" rather than Harry. He and Harry were born in the same month and perhaps through the emotional damage caused by the destruction of his parents, He Who Must Not Be Named marked him. It's also possible he has another physical blemish that Rowling will bring up later (causing everyone to say "That's cheap! You can't just make that up!"), as some writers have the tendency to do. And we all know Snape's going to take down Lucius Malfoy in the end. I just really, really hope there isn't a complete Snape-Potter reconciliation. Perhaps they will learn to ignore one another, but I would be greatly offended if she ended a chapter or a book with Snape giving the "hint of a smile" at Harry at any point, unless he's about to make him drink his own potion.

Re: Snape
OK. I love Snape. He is the coolest character in the world. I want him to take down Lucius, and then live happily ever after.

Quote:I was extremely disappointed with the portrayal of Sirius in the last book. I think that JK was trying to justify her killing him by making him as unlikable as humanly possible.
I absolutely agree Elenna (good post ).
Here's a though; if Harries parents hadn't died and Harry had got the chance to grow up normally (for a wizard), do you think he would have ended up like his father:-an arrogant bully.
I tend to think that it's only his experience (of his aunts house) that makes him more sensitive to those being bullied, neglected, or mistreated.
Re: Harry
I do think that he's a little arrogant, though. Even though he feels for Snape, I think that his ego has definitely grown due to the Triwizard Tournament and everything.

Re: Harry
If you have not read any of the potter books Cim, I'd suggest that you start reading them from the first book, but if you don't, then it's OK to start with the third (the basic history is always covered in each book).
The third book was very good in that it marked the first stage of the proceeding books becoming more grown up. They start to get a little more serious and slightly scary, along with the characters becoming more developed.
As for the film clip, I've seen it too, and it seems that they haven't watered down the effect of the Dementores (Spelling?), which means that the movie will have that dark element that the last film had. I can't wait!
Re: Harry
I love how as the characters and the audience age, the book becomes more for older audiences. It becomes less juvenile, and a little darker. And longer. Longer is good.

Re: Harry
Yes, longer is better. However, are they going to match the length of the movie to that of the book? If not, what scenes are they going to cut (if any), or are they going to rush important scenes in an attempt to keep the movie as genuine as possible but reduce its length?
What scenes would you cut out if you were the director?
Re: Harry
And they aren't really all that childish. They aren't dark, really, but they have some pretty serious themes that adults can pick up.

Re: Harry
Now that you mentioned it Mr Underhill, I think your right!
The LOTR movies were good, but they were not as satisfying as the Potter movies. I think thats because I was too busy analyzing everything in the LOTR movies, and was not in the later.
The same could be said for the books (although I think I have upset some people with that remark ).
Re: Harry
... and the poor Conan movies were a potpouri of the late REH's works along with that of Roy Thomas, Sprague DeCamp and Lin Carter's. Dino DiLaurentis really made a mess of the Hyborian Saga.
But the cinematography and the action rocked.
Oh, sorry... yeah, I liked the HP movies. They were easier to follow even without reading the books, where as the LOTR movies do require some reading of the books to thoroughly enjoy them.
Re: Potter is my next fav book :eek
I loved the Conan movies I have never read the books but one day I will.
Hp was ok, I have only seen it once but LOTR I have seen 4 x
Located on the deserted western shore of the Undying Lands, facing the Encircling Sea and the Walls of Night are the Halls of Mandos, here the spirits of the dead are called and are kept in the Hall of Awaiting.
Re: Harry
I just finished reading all the books and I love them, but I have one complaint. No book 6
Any ideas on what the plot for the next book might be?
I would love for the character of Neville to grow into a more powerful wizard.
And harry and Hermione to become an item.
Do you know that the movie is out 49days 10 hours and 14 minutes 10 seconds from ..now until the release of harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban.

I think Hermione has a thing for Harry's friend Ron. Besides, they would never make a good match. Harry is too independent and Hermione is too controlling. Ron on the other hand, is just suggestable enough for Hermione to boss around, but he has enough independent to stop her from controlling him.
Re: Harry
The question then is, who does Harry get? My guess is nobody. I could very easily see the last book ending with Harry about to set out alone on a new and completely different life from those his friends will lead. Of course I could easily see it ending a million other ways too... So really, I just wonder what you guys think.
