Hello,

I am now working on a map editor and an engine.
I added (on my site) an executable where you can walk
in a town with a black mage:D . (funny!)

My next game will use this engine.:evil

The big project
Hell yeah Dawezy! I need plublicity 0] ***8) ,
I am not good in publicity :( .
I updated (improved) the engine on my site.
membres.lycos.fr/foudesmaths/

This game will be an online game. (yeahh...)

Have to do : add NPC (behavior?), Menu, Monster, Battle, Player Stat...
after put it Online...

Have to do: Item editor, Monster Editor, Battle editor,
NPC editor... (a playermaker editor for me hehe)

Working on : map engine, map editor....

===================================
NPC will be Static (immobile)?
Character battle will be like outside character skin
(16*16 pixels) ?

You will ~talk (listen) to NPC with a dialog window like FF2.
But, you will talk to others players characters
in a chat window.

:hat

I will try to make this game, but I cannot promise anything...

re:
Wow!

That's all I can really say. The chess "set" is by far one of the coolest things I've ever downloaded. It's like one of the "story" battles in the real game. The only down-side is that there is no computer AI. Still, it's awesome.

SKW is great because it actually does "jumping" correctly. There have been so very many games that I've played on-line where the jumping logic is totally incorrect. I've yet to play a game that I've downloaded to actually have the jumping fluidity that SKW has.

In any event, if you are actually going to make an MMORPG, I want to aid you in any way that I can. I've actually seen some attempts at ffiv-themed online games, and they have all been long since abandoned or incredibly crappy. If yours will look and run like the demo, it will be 10 million times better than all of them. Like I said, I want to help you any way that I can.

This is going to be awesome.

Re: re:
Hello Mr. Madd Dawgg,

I am very, very happy to meet you.
If you have great ideas to bring to my project, it would be very appreciated.
I believe in you and
I would really like that you help me in my mmorg FF4 project.

You are good in web-design skills and in advertising... cool.
Then, if you want, you could make and manage the official site for this project.

Or else, if you wanna grap images (16*16 pixel cases) with Zsnes.
I am looking for someone that could do it.
Confirm me your choice and I will be more precise on that point.
(see ChipSetMap files in Image folder from the editor, we have to grap them)

I am currently working on a map editor:
The map editor is going well but is not completed.
Link (Map Editor): membres.lycos.fr/foudesma...Editor.zip
When I add functionality that add/modify stuff in map file to the editor.
I have to remake maps. So, don't submit maps yet.
When, the editor will be finish
I will have to find someone (you?) to edit map with my editor.

I try to improve the editor.
I will try implement dynamic stuff: NPC, ...
If you have any suggestion (be meticulous) about the editor, give me your suggestion.
(I will add "save screenshot map" option in the menu).

Or, if you want to do something else on this project than reply me and we will see what we could do.

You can as you want use the forum or the e-mail:
fou_des_maths@hotmail.com

Yes, we will do a good job!

FouDesMaths

===========================================
I updated the Engine_BlackMage2.
I added Zzz when you are in the bed. (why not!)
I have to add dynamic cases in house: clock, fire, ....

Re: Heh heh.
Okay, awesome!

(MaddDawgg1 joined the party!)

I'm glad my little walking-demo animations helped. The animation is exactly like the actual game. I would maybe speed it up, though. I would maybe make it 1.5 to 2 times as fast. Also, I made a more optimized .png file of the darkknight. Its filesize is smaller, and it fixes the inverting lighting on the up and down movement of the knight:

members.cox.net/madddawgg/Darkknight.png

I'm really glad you're allowing me to help you with this. I'll probably start making chipsets for all of the different places in the game. When the time comes I'll definately have a few mock-up web pages ready to show to you. Firstly though, I think I'll spend more of my energy on actually getting some form of game made.

By the way, the only thing I had trouble with in the map editor was the lack of an undo function. Everything else works great. (At first, I didn't like the fact that the tiles that I was going to place appeared away from the cursor, but after using it, I found I prefered it over the likes of other RPG maker programs.)

Dawezy, I've just been too busy with non-computer stuff, but I check your website everyday. I'm always in the mood to listen to your silly antics. I'm still working on beating the WSC FFIV, so I check out your site for stuff that may aid in doing so.

Fou, when I get the chipsets ready, I'll send them your way. It looks like you need Castle Baron, so I'll do that one first.

I'd also like to talk to you about some game mechanic style things, but we'll just take this one step at a time.

I just want to show off a little of some of the work i've done. I'm just going to throw at you a layout design for the engine that I think you'll like. go to this link and tell me what you think:

members.cox.net/madddawgg...layout.htm

P.S. The run button works great. The animation is perfect now :)

Re:
okay, good job, :D
I will follow your ideas for now but
maybe I will not realize them.

======================================

Players could form a party with a leader and fight together
"and" players could also join battle if there are not in the party.

Do you think it's a better idea?

======================================

I will use key from Numpad-0 to Numpad-9
for action button.

Probably:
Numpad-0 -> Run
Numpad-1 -> Confirm/talk/open/read
Numpad-2 -> Cancel
...
================================

I think, I will let characters on user computers
(your computer)
I don't care if people want to cheat...

================================

About save:
Should we allow people to save anywhere?
or at specific point or in the wolrd map?

We have to decid now...

================================
About world map :
Should there be different kind of battle outside depending where you are? I prefer no battle, because there would be a lot of people -> it will be hard for the server...
Ya I think there will be no battle in the world map

================================

I updated Engine3.
Optimized engine, fixed something in the chat,
added a box over the map window.

The best of both worlds. It sounds like a good idea to me.

I agree. If people cheat, I guess that's something that entices them. I mean, the idea is to have fun. If cheating is fun for some people, I say let them do it. Plus, it's easier on the server this way.

About save:

We have to decid now...

I would say that players should only be able to save at Inns or save spots that are in dugeons. I think allowing players to save their characters anywhere might get abused, or worse, if we changed the map layout, it might mess up their characters position and "trap" it. I think having designated saving spots is a good idea. Plus, saving spots will become like player meeting-zones because players will commonly go to them. Inns will be appropriately populated, and dungeon saving spots will be a great place to meet a friend to help kill monsters in a dungeon.

Ya I think there will be no battle in the world map

I would say that there should be battle on the world map, but I thought about it, and players should really be doing most of their adventuring inside of dungeons and stuff like that. The world map is meerly a connecting zone. Plus, if the world map had monsters, I bet a lot of people would just gain levels on the world map which would just cripple the server more. I agree that the world map should be void of battles.

Well, I think your energy is rubbing-off on me! :) I managed to get the baron chipset done. Here it is:

members.cox.net/madddawgg...hipset.zip

I think I'll do some more towns next. Fighting enemies is annoying while trying to get images. I think I'll do Toroia castle
next.

I'm glad you liked my ideas. It was basically a list of things I think would be cool. I've also got some thoughts about races, classes, and other character generation stuff that I'd like to share, but I'll share it later. As I said, I'm going to try to keep this one step at a time. I just figured I'd start some kind of discussion on game mechanics so that others could start providing some of their input. This is really turning out to be an exciting project.

Re: Re:
ok good,

today, I was lasy,
I have started to grap NPC people from this site.
No engine update today but I have added some NPC skin
in the folder NPC.

=============================

I think I will put the game online before
implementing battle and NPC.
(I have to implement item before Battle.
"" "" Stats" "" before item.)

I have to think a little more before
implementing NPC and quests.

"
text
Yes/No
Vendor -> Buy/Sell
text + Fight
Receive KeyN
Give KeyN
"

=============================
For the world map, ok I will have to make
a special editor for the world map.
Maybe, I will put 10 planets... who know?

=============================

Agree for saving.

Re: Re:
10 planets? Neat.

Obviously, the moon, and earth need to be there. You could also add the ancient land of the lunarians (which brings me to something else.)

What will the time frame for the game be? Pre-ffiv? or Post-ffiv?

In the game, FuSoYa mentions a time when the lunarians interacted with Earth prior to the events in the FFIV game, so there is definately a potential for a game there. Plus, the Dragoons and Dark Knights were more common pre-ffiv. Plus, the four fiends of elements could be enemies again.

I suppose it's really too early to be making any final decisions. But there are so many possibilities. It's interesting just to think about them.
