subj: Just stopping by...

I'm an active G3D member since 99 and a new addition to the G3DC team. I had the pleasure to meet Mike and Max from the old Eclipse and often wonder what they are doing and if they are still with WT.
Anyway, thanks a lot again guys for starting that great adventure, Genesis3D. I know that Erik stop by the forum sometimes and we sure like to hear more about you guys on the G3D Board.
Take care and keep up the good work.
John, I can't wait to see Duke Nukem Forever.

Thanks
This is Lightning from G3D. You guys left behind a great engine for the world to use. Of course it is starting to show it's age. Thanks for leaving such a thing around though so people like me can hack away at it and put out a newer version. Your work you did is appreciated by many people

Thanks for G3D
I would like to voice my gratitude for the hard work done by the Eclipse crew on G3D and the supporting tools.
I spent a good five months last year reorganizing Gedit into GenEdit-Classic. For the most part, all the code was there for me to use. I developed great respect for...
Jim Mischel, Ken Baird, Jeff Lomax, John Moore, Bruce Cooner, John Pollard and Eli Boling...
...who worked on the original GEdit. Thanks, guys.
A level editor is a big, big deal. I think that despite my efforts to improve upon GEdit by preparing GenEdit-Classic, most G3D users still perfer GEdit :-)
In any case, I'm not a game developer, I'm a scientist and college biology professor. I am now preparing to use G3D to create a new set of apps to help explore and reveal Planetary Biology theory. It's a whole world systems theory that I have been working on for the last 6-7 years. I needed a real-time tool and G3D is perfect.

Concerns about the future of the G3D community...
Recent comments by G3D board leadership cause me to worry about the future of the G3D community. As I have substantial philosophical differences with the current board leadership, I am posting my concerns here.
Current situation:
1. G3D board leadership has made comments indicating dissatisfaction with board visitors who consume substantial and fruitless download resources.
2. The G3D board leadership is soliciting for the purchase of promotional banner space as a way to offset the costs of hosting the G3D board.
3. The G3D board leadership has expressed frustration that more of the G3D visitors have not paid to join the Destiny3D community.
Interpretation
1. Aside from voicing reasonable business concerns, the tone of the comments made by G3D board leadership indicates a sense of resentment for G3D visitors not previously revealed. That is, the emotional view held by G3D board leadership regarding G3D board visitors has changed from 'inviting' to 'hostile.'
2. Experimenting with banner ad space indicates that the G3D board leadership is reevaluating the usefulness of the G3D board in Cheyenne Cloud's overall business enterprise
3. As it was the apparent intention of the Cheyenne Cloud leadership to exploit the vast popularity of G3D as a recruiting resource for gathering paying members for Destiny3D (a new rendering engine now under development by Cheyenne Cloud), and as the value of such access to the G3D community to serve this purpose has demonstrated to be be poor, it seems unreasonable from a business standpoint that Cheyenne Cloud should continue to contribute further economic support for the hosting of G3D community board.
Analysis
Based on the above, I am predicting that Cheyenne Cloud currently is in a state of internal adjustment in which it is reevaluating its future viability. This situation is exacerbated by an apparent lack of meaningful progress on its promoted Destiny3D engine. In essence, the organization is between a rock and a hard place as it is finding it more and more difficult to convincingly explain delays in engine deliverables to increasingly skeptical G3D visitors -- and Destiny3D subscribers.
How this situation evolved to its current state can be explained by an analysis of the Cheyenne Cloud management. But that is not the point of my post here.
Action
If Cheyenne Cloud quits G3D board hosting:
1. Is there interest by others to provide alternate hosting?

Prediction came true...
As predicted above, Hootie / Cheyenne Cloud is quitting its hosting of the G3D community as of Jan.1, 2002.
Re: plasmatic hades
It's no big deal. I mean, if Hootie is getting sick of Genesis3D I am sure he will pass the reigns over. If I am not mistaken, who owns Operation rights to www.genesis3d.com.
He doesn't own all the rights to the open source. It's free for all of us.
He just owns the right to maintain Genesis3d.com.
If he really believes in his Destiny3D he will hand over maitence of Genesis3D to someone who wishes to use it to support it and keep it around for ever. The idea that if "they" do not keep it going it will die is absurd.
I would love to maintain it as long as the internet still works. and I have the financial wherewithall to do so. But most of all:
a: since I was one of the original Genesis3D users
b: the people that created it where and still are my friends
c: i will polish and shine it with an utmost vigor. (personal money)
d: No business interest involved. I already have the ability to put www.gametitan.com on my Nintendo products. There is no reason for me to want to use Genesis for other product's recognition.
where talking GDEMO2 here! I think I am a good canidate.
else,
Hootie will use it as a vehicle to sell his Destiny3D and try to make it seem like they own the Open Source Project or something.
thats all.
Either way the world will still turn for me. My goal is Game Titan. This would be just a worthwhile hobby that would benefit G3D users. Thats all.
My company is on it's way to domination anyhow with or without G3D.

Gen 3d eek
I knew this was going to happen sooner or later...all I ever hear about on that forum is Destiny 3d. And while it does sound amazing to me ....it is also Vapourware to me.
Hootie has a little bit of an attitude as well.

New G3D board leadership
I'm going to go back under my rock again. For a moment there, I felt rays of sunlight. But no.
It doesn't matter. Trilobites work more efficiently under rocks. And sometimes the sky is much too bright.
