ok, i misunderstood. not trying to sound like a smart ass, but i didn't realize these other artist threads were 'only post if you like' or 'only post positive things'.

I don't think that's what she's saying... ok, it is, BUT, if you had something constructive like, "I don't care for him because point A and point B," I think that would be ok, right?
I took her plea as, "Please be mindful that some of us do like Blunt, so saying 'He sucks' just to say it isn't necessary." She, and a million or so other people obviously find something desireable about his music and nothing you or I would say will change that, and it's not our place to change it either, you know?
And this forum is titled "Other artists to check out," so somewhere along the line someone wanted to introduce him to the rest of us... probably before he achieved radio success (although, I didn't check to see when this thread was created, so I could be wrong). Know it's kind of silly to be an advocate of his work since he is so widely well known.
Ok... that was a lot longer than I initially planned it to be. I'm such a blabber mouth!

oh but the thing is tallyn, you have to consider the source (me). I don't like anyone. well that's the rep anyway. But constructive criticism acknowledged. If I say someone sucks, I'll say way. I just felt that this apple called blunt, isn't all shiny.

So you're a music snob. Gotcha! I know a few of them and we still get along-- even though most the music snobs I know are into techno and think that everyone that actually makes money with their music is a sell-out. Personally, as a person who will undoubtedly be a starving musician all her life, I see nothing wrong with selling out. Shoot, I've even considered writing a pop song (selling out) to pay the bills. Whatever works.

Re: James Blunt
here's what i need to put you on my A list.
Uniqueness; either in your voice (which must be amazing), your music, your songwriting or your total arrangement. That's why mayer isn't in my A list. He's a good guitarist, a decent singer (but there are so many breathy/raspy singers now) and at times a better than average songwriter. But I ask, where's the uniqueness?
You must be worthy of my support, as a person; there are too many good people out there trying hard to make it to support howie day.

Re: James Blunt
Ok, (Sorry Michelle, this is going to fall way off the on-topic spectrum) I'll respond to that.
I have the same criteria with one addition and I'll get to that momentarily.
When I first started listening to Mayer (five years ago), he was unique to my aural palette. I'm going to own up to the fact that I used to listen to a lot of WAY shitty music (not including all the classical music that I was really interested in). I was never a fan of Dave Matthews, still not, and really didn't have a clue as to what a singer/songwriter was. So, when I overheard my suitemate playing a few of his tunes I thought, "Hey, that's actually pretty cool." He was the first acoustic guy I ever heard, (Didn't hear his studio work until 6-9 months later.)
I never went to concerts growing up nor did I ever buy CDs. Mayer was my very first concert experience and RFS was the first CD that I ever bought. (It's sad really... I was 18 years old). Since that point in time, I've pulled a complete 180. He's really opened my eyes as to what's out there-- which brings me to my addition to the criteria list: loyalty through longevity.
For me, it's kind of like that first love that you never forget (does that make sense?). I mean, yes, I've since discovered other people that are better songwriters, better vocals, better whatever, but he was the guy that introduced it all, so he'll always be that pivotal musician for me. When the shit hits the fan, his music reminds me of better times.
It doesn't bother me that you or anyone else doesn't care for him. I'm not going to try to convince you that he's the most amazing musician in the world, because honestly he's not. I reserve that title for a few other people, and I won't even force them upon others.

That's exactly what I was trying to say.
I don't care if you say you don't like him, but let's not just start saying 'oh man, James Blunt is a whiny little bitch...' or whatever.
Okay?
And, Brett, no matter how much you try to make it seem like you're the most miserly (I don't even know if that's the right word here, but I'm going with it) guy ever, I know it's not true.
You haven't pulled the wool over my eyes.
