Introduce Yourself!
This board is new, so everyone here is new! Post here to introduce yourself.
Edit, I should probably introduce myself.
I'm Jessica, founder of Great Indoors. I discovered John in the Spring of 2002 through a friend. I made this board because I felt we all could use a change of pace.
I also trade JM shows. I'm trying really hard to get my computer to work properly so I can do B&Ps, but right now you can access my AIM Getfile at Jesscc316. Feel free to take what you want. I'll get be getting my list up in the trading forum as soon as I can find the time to go through all my stuff and write down when I have.
And if anyone asks, yes, I do read the phone book for money.
I'm Teresa, I'm 23, and I've been a John fan for about 4 years or so, since Room For Squares. I adored the music then, but after 4 years it just becomes part of who you are, you know? So that's why I'm here.
I also knit, live in St. Louis, and have something like 10 large plants in my one bedroom apartment.
Re: Introduce Yourself!
I'm Debbie...I'm older than I want to admit..lets just say I saw Hendrix in person ..I've known about John since 99, when I saw him at Eddies in Atlanta and have been a fan ever since... I remember the days when you could walk up to the table in the back introduce yourself sign the mailing list and have a great conversation with a sweet guy....
live in LA , teach painting, have two grown kids and am too old to be doing this but damn the music is sooooooo good.
Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hi! I'm Elizabeth. I have 3 children, if you couldnt' guess from my screen name. I discovered John when Heavier Things came out (my husband got it for me, so he has noone to blame but himself for my obsession, ).... I listened to it in the background for months until I saw John on Austin City Limits one night playing with Buddy Guy (I was up late with a sick child who couldnt' sleep...)... after that I was hooked, and quickly bought everything else I could find. I have only been to one John Mayer concert - last summer. I bought all the as/is shows and just loved how he sounds live. Then I discovered b&p's of live shows and the rest is history....I've got 2 out of my 3 kids turned into little John Mayer fans now too.... doing my part to ensure that he'll be a career artist...

Re: Introduce yourself....
Hey!
I'm Lori.....I've been a fan of Mayer's music since 2001. I love his diversity in terms of all the kind of music he plays. He's not nailed down to one type. I love the fact that anyone can get completely mezmorized by watching him on the guitar.....and that his passion for music comes through his guitar faces. I live in California, obviously love music, and can I say I've chatted with a lot of really good people on these boards and I'm looking forward to maybe meeting up with some of you at John's shows. I'm told you can walk away from this with some good friends, great experiences,
and some damn good music.
My name is Paige. I'm 23 ... will be 24 in July. I live in Maryland.
I definitely haven't been a John Mayer fan for as long as many of you. I can't even imagine what it's like to be able to talk about his Eddie's Attic days. I was digging *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys hardcore at that time.
I heard "No Such Thing" and thought it was catchy. I'll always love pop songs, so I think that's what caught and held my attention with that song; however, I basically forgot about him and went back to my boybands.
Flash forward to "YBIAW" and I enjoyed that song equally. Still nothing causing me to want to listen to him further.
Skip to the "Bigger Than My Body." I absolutely loved the song the day I heard it. Saw the video and thought he was cute. Bad reason to base my initial admiration on, but it was the start of something much greater, so I thank him for looking good.
I've only been to two of his concerts. 2003 in Baltimore, MD. 2004 in Bristow, Virginia. However, I am now interested in catching his shows every chance that I get.
I am quite the rambler, so I'll close in saying, "thanks" for inviting me to this board. I'll be seeing John open for The Stones in Philly, which is very exciting. I can't wait to see his development as an artist. I'm curious to hear anything that he comes up with.
I discovered John around Christmas of 2001 when I bought Room for Squares at Target for $7.98 cause I am all about a bargain! I couldn't stop listening to it and I started trying to convert all of my friends into listeners.
My first live experience was in Austin, April of 2002. Ever since the moment he started wailing on Neon I was hooked.
Uh...what else to say? I am a bit of a Harry Potter fanatic, and I am hoping to end up as a writer someday.
P.S. Two things I need to add: Jess rules and John does NOT have a nice butt.
Re: Introduce yourself....
I'm Tamara, I'm 22 and from TX also. I discovered John on the cheap rack at Target, like Heather did, only in September-ish of '01. First saw him live in Dallas in March of '02.
Heather brought me here. She is my good friend. She rocks.
Guys, I'm Kevin and I'll be transfering to Belmont University in the fall to study music business and write/practice music for hours each day. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you in a few years Anyway, it's exciting to have a new JM board.
Re: Introduce yourself....
I'm Kelly. I'm 16 and I've been a JM fan since winter 2002. I've been in his fan club for the past 2 years, but I my renewal date is right around the corner and I don't think I'll be renewing. I'm also a member at MSM. I live in L.A. I play the guitar. I want to have a career in psychology and/or film editing-directing. That's about it lol
Re: Introduce yourself....
Hi, I'm Stephanie. I first saw John on David Letterman and just stopped and stared in awe. This kid is good i thought. Haven't stopped loving the music since. I have seen him 4 times in concert.
I'm Lauren (it's pronounced la-REN just so you know ). I'll be 16 at the end of July, but keep in mind, as Jess once said over at MSM, "young does not equal teenybopper".
I'm Canadian... from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia to be specific. I first got into Mayer in October 2003 when I (absolutely randomly) picked up RFS, and it was probably one of the best impulses I've ever had because I absolutely love this music and can't say enough about the boy's talent.
Also, I'm a dancer (not a fantastic one, mind you) and yeah... that's about it.
Re: Introduce Yourself
Hello, I'm Carl. I was fortunate to live down the road from John when he was playing at Eddie's (and Borders Bookstore for that matter) in 99 and 00.
It's been fun to watch his growth, though I'll admit that it's a bit more expensive now.
He certainly never ceases to deliver, and that is what keeps me coming back.
Re: Introduce Yourself
Hello, and thank you Heather to alerting me of this wonderful place.
I'm Michelle, 26, from outside of Chicago, IL.
I've been a Mayer fan for, oh, about 4 or 5 years now.
The first time I saw him live was November of 2002 at the University of IL Chicago Pavilion.
Even though I was in the nosebleed section, it was awesome.
I know there's more I could include here, but I'm having a brain fart at the moment. Forgive me.
Re: Introduce Yourself
Hi! I'm Corey. I'm 19, almost 20 (on July 23rd). I've been a fan since early 2002. I've seen John a handful of times. November 2002 in Philly, Summer 2003 in Camden, NJ, Spring 2004 in Reading, PA, Summer 2004 in Camden, NJ, November 2004 at Housing Works in NYC and December 2004 at Webster Hall in NYC. I simply adore his music and can't wait to see him bring out his blues child with the John Mayer Trio. I'll be at the first Rolling Stones show in Philly in October. Maybe the second as well if someone bums me a ticket.
Re: Introduce Yourself
Hello, all!! I'm Laurel. I'm from Arizona and am 23... 24 in 7 days, though... YAY! I'm a hard core music and computer nerd and have been known to be a tish obsessed with the show LOST Right, ladies? I was welcomed to the world of John when a rocker friend of mine passed on some awesome live concert audio back in late 2001.... and from there I was hooked. I'm so excited about this new board! YAY!!
Re: Introduce yourself....
Hi everyone! My name's Christy and I'm 19 years old. I've been a fan of john mayer since one of my friends introduced me to his music about a year ago. That guy is ridiculously talented and amazing to watch! I'm a big fan of his more bluesy style of music. Corey, I'm so jealous that you got to see him at Webster Hall! I have a cd of that show and the stuff he played just spoke to the soul!

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hello, My name is Davra , yes I know the name is different. I am 21 years young I am an active member of the My Stupid Mouth(MSM) message board I am known as JM gal over there, but could not use the same name over here because I only had a local account. Anyway I feel like really expressing how I came about this incredibly talented musician, John Mayer, If you got the time read below...
Every once in awhile you fall in love with the music of the one musician that you use to switch the video station from. This is exactly what happened to me with John Mayer. I was actually turned on to Mayer by another musician that I am still a fan of, Craig David. While visiting his site there was a video link of an interview with Craig. I will never forget one thing about that interview and that was that Craig spoke so highly of this man called John Mayer (at this time he was known as the YBIAW guy to me I hadn't heard any of his other stuff) right after I got off of his site I went to Amazon to listen to clips of John's album, I didn't fall in love with it right away. I didn't listen to the ones that are my favorite songs now, but one day I decided to give it another try and I randomly went to Why Georgia and St Patrick’s Day and BAMM! I thought so this is what all the hype is about. I went out and got his second CD first and I loved it! I then went crazy and brought the first CD as well as the DVD, Any Given Thursday! I've been a huge fan ever since! Why... Well the answer to that is a given he's an Incredible singer, writer, and guitar player. His voice is so good, unique, smooth, and breathy like a whisper, his lyric's are as beautiful, yet conversational, and his guitar playing is a mixture of every one of his great influences SRV, Hendrix. I have also recently found that John is just as adaptable as a chameleon (With his blues shows, I don't need no doctor etc, etc), yet he doesn't compromise his own style. I think you could place him in any genre of music and he'd find his niche, lastly we cannot forget he has such a big, pleasant, and humorous personality all this just adds to the reason why we're all a fan of John.

Re: Introduce Yourself!
Hi! My name is Elizabeth and I'm 20 years old. I first heard of John Mayer my senior year of high school when Jessica would play RFS during our study halls. I didn't fall in love immediately, but knew there was something there that I wanted to hear more of. It wasn't until Jessica and another friend of ours saw John live at Darien Lake, from the lawn, that I was able to really appreciate his tremendous talent. Well. . . . I'm not much of a poster, but rather a really good lurker. . . . but who knows . . . Nice to meet you all!!
