Just got back from the show. It was very laid back, groovy where it needed to be, rocking where it needed to be. The highlights for me were Gravity, Good Love Is On the Way (with a cute lyric change), I Don't Need No Doctor (of course), In Repair and I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You). We only got one song for the encore and I was hoping for Slow Dancing, but maybe tomorrow night. At the beginning of the show John was doing the let-me-interupt-my-banter-with-the-song banter, there were many thank you's and having a good time's. Although he had a cup of tea back on the amp, he voice sounded so good all night. You'll hear it in the tape.
Debbie, I'm sorry I forgot to ask where you were sitting so I could say hi. I was dead center, 5th row, in front of the chick that got her boobs zoomed in on a few times (which she was immensely proud of by the way).
Great show, cannot wait for tomorrow's. The crowd was great, the lawn was packed with people and you could tell the band just had great energy tonight. Everyone was smiling and playing off one another. The chemistry seemed good tonight and John had nothing but great things to say about James Morrison (whose set I missed unfortunately underestimating traffic, but it will not happen tomorrow).
Good night folks. I took a few pics and will put them up in the morning.

Yay! A call from Heather beats a call for Eat and Greet! Bring on the Graze and Wave!
Karla, we are staying in the Omni. If you are, check the site again and make sure you two aren't over paying. When we originally booked that room back in February, it was $299! Now it's $150 something.
Re: Charlotte 08/01cross-posting again:
Well last night's show was definitely a "Continuum" show. He played everything except Bold As Love and Stop This Train. He threw in some lyrics from In Repair on one song, I can't remember which, but these last two shows are the biggest crowds I've ever seen and that may not be saying much, but anyone else there may be better able to weigh in. I can almost say the same thing about Raleigh as Charlotte. Good Love Is On The Way, Gravity, I Don't Need No Doctor and I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) were great. IDTM(WLY) was my favorite of the night. No vintage Mayer songs of course, but these markets may not really be too familiar with the old stuff. There would be some hardcore fans in the crowd of course, but these crowds were there to party and not reminisce.
I brought my best friend and my sister to the shows and they were very impressed. Now they want to buy all his CDs and want to go to the next show. Initially, they didn't know what to make of Ben Folds, but by the time he was playing the "brown note" and Bitches Ain't Shit came on they were sold. My girlfriend even said, "he is playing the shit out of that piano!" She also liked James Morrison whose set I did catch this time. His band sounded great and he was so please to be play for the everyone. I only wish the full house could have heard his set.
I had sort of shitty seats this time. I was about 10 to 15 rows from where the lawn began and I was hoping for some "Ticket Fairy" dust, but none was sprinkled so no pictures this time either. I figured I was so far out it'd be no use. I was glad to hear both Dreaming With a Broken Heart and The Heart of Life in the same set and they sounded beautiful, better than the record in my opinion. And yes we did get Slow Dancing in the encore as well last night.
John's voice still sounded great and my favorite banter was when he was talking about the folks on the lawn, which was again packed. He said something about them being "last minute" people who didn't know they were going to the show until last week. He said, "you're not on-line at ten in the morning" waiting to buy tickets (like me). My first thought is that he knows his fans so well, all of us. I feel like he's starting to feel the age and expanse of his career when he's thanking all the fans who have accepted him and either love the old songs, the Trio stuff or the songs from Continuum or all of it and he gets more and more appreciative of how his career has developed at this point.
Oh yeah, at the Raleigh show I forgot to mention, there was this total Dennis Franz look-a-like in the third row. It was so weird to see some of these older couples and their friends, who seem to know nothing of Mayer, sit down in the first few rows. Other than that, great shows. It seemed these two dates would never get here and now they're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone.

I just got back from Atlanta. While I'm wrestling with iPhoto (which is having a conniption when I asked it to load 166 photos), I'll recap the N.B.A.
Nashville:
* The absolute best part of ANY concert is when the lights go out. There is an energy rush that begins in the nosebleeds and engulfs the floor. John walked out onstage and stood at the edge just listening to the crowd. He was smiling ear to ear just basking in the noise. He looked around the arena (which was PACKED) and just took it all in. I haven't seen him do that since Jackson, MS.
* He was REALLY chatty, as I'm sure you've already heard the tape. We were standing in front of the lady that got "owned" by the beach ball. Right before Gravity, he was talking about Friday nights and asked, "Where are we going after this?" and I screamed, "BIRMINGHAM!" He looked at us, smiled and said, "Birmingham." On the tape, you've really got to turn it up to hear it, you can hear me yell before the drunk man does. That was the highlight of the night.
* Take that back, Stop This Train. Last time I heard that was at Eddie's. I bawled then and bawled again in Nashville. "I play the numbers game to find a way to say that life has just begun." Floors me.
Re: DAMN! I'm home!
JASON! I got something in on the Atlanta tape!
Listen really, REALLY closely to the beginning of CIR. After he makes the first note of CIR, Sel and I both scream "SON OF A BITCH!"
Totally not planned, but from the heart. We had told Karla we never went on a John trip without him playing CIR. We knew what it was the moment he started.
great shots
Great pics Kelly. Glad you had a fantastic time. I'll be listening to the Atlanta show later on tonight. I was looking back at all your pictures and I'm so missing the old Mayer hair.

Re: great shots
Kelly, I should have known you answered "Birmingham". I thought of you when he said that and figured you were nodding along.
He was SUPER chatty. I loved every second. Our seats were pretty far back but they didn't suck. Plus, Kevin moved over every time the tall dudes shifted and I couldn't see. I was just bummed we weren't close enough to see his face. Kelly, I covet your pictures for that reason.
It was a great show, though. Best I've heard his voice sound in...ages. The setlist ruled.
I couldn't believe he played Stop This Train. I was shocked and it was gorgeous.
Nashville is a good place to see a show. I might add it to the list of must haves with ATL.
Re: great shots
I had to go back to work today. No one understood the trip. No one cared that the wifebeater pictures were up and I had to use the computer to look at them. No one wanted to hear the shows at work.
:sigh: It's been a week since Nashville. It's not fair!
