The Movie Thread
Alrighty, I'm starting this thread for you to post about any movies you've seen lately. It's always nice to get people's opinions before you go pay good money to see something, even if you are just renting. I'll start!
I saw "The Great Raid" today. It's the story of a raid on a POW camp in the Phillippenes at the end of WWII. The stars are small, but the acting was great. The story is extremely compelling. It was based (obviously) on a true story and a book by William B. Breuer called, "The Great Raid on Cabanatuan". I'm thinking of getting the book.
Anyway, it was a great movie if you like any kind of military history. It's not a story that's been exposed in anything else I've ever seen. The violence was not worth the R rating it carries...but it did have some disturbing images of the Japanese Army's brutality.
Dude, I'm taking my mom to see this for her birthday tonight.
I was going to see it anyway, just based on it seeming pretty good and having a good cast.
Now that you gave it such a high rating, I'm glad I won't be wasting my money.

P.S. Heather was right, it was an excellent movie. I did think it deserved the R rating, though.
Re: The Movie Thread
Most people have probably seen this, but..Wedding Crashers. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. But this movie would not have been anything without Vince Vaughn...he had the best lines, and just the way he says them is hilarious. I recommend it to everyone.
Re: The Movie Thread
Oh, God, yes, The Wedding Crashers made me laugh so damned hard. It's a good thing I saw it pre-surgery. Otherwise, I might have hurt myself. It is the kind of movie that you need to see twice, though, because there are parts when you're laughing so hard, your missing some of the jokes.
Re: The Movie Thread
Exactly...yea, I saw it twice..even funnier the second time. Not to mention, the first time I saw it, I went to the bathroom and missed one of the funniest parts (todd painting)
re
i love todd!! i would just gush whenever you saw him, because he was such an outcast.... but too cute at the same time. lmao and hilarious eventually. but yeah, wedding crashers was hilarious!! heather, and anyone else who didn't see it, you have to see it. if you want a good laugh that is. so many funny moments.... and i heart rachel mcadams.
i wanna see red eye!!! i'm pumped that she's doing a thriller now (or whatever you want to call that).
Re: re
I'm seeing 'The Brother's Grimm' this Friday, so I'll let you know how that is.
In movie renting news... all of you ladies, and even the three guys that visit this board, should see 'The Wedding Date.' It starts out a little rocky (at least it seemed that way to me), but it gets sooooooooooooo much better, and ends wonderfully. The soundtrack, filled with songs my Michael Buble, is great, too.

Re: re
I saw Red Eye today!!!! I was so excited because of my love for Rachel McAdams. It was pretty good. It was really suspenseful in some parts - I chewed off four fingernails! Wes Craven would be proud. Haha.
What I didn't like:
The story was kind of long and drawn out. I think the movie could have been more compact and more entertaining. I found myself getting bored in spots and finding some of the repitition of the story annoying. The ending climax was very predicatble, to me at least.
What I loved:
I loved all the little references to the future Bros. Grimm 'fairytales'. While the movie is fictitious, it pretty much alludes to the fact that they were retelling bits and pieces of folklore that they heard while traveling through Europe.
And the best part of the movie, by far, was Heath Ledger's performance. I love Heath, I won't lie. He was one of my very first celeb crushes and I still have a little bit of that left. But even without that, he made the movie for me. His character was so quirky that it was totally endearing. He was totally the hero of the movie and acted circles around Matt Damon.
So, to sum it up, if you really love Heath Ledger, go see this movie.
If you can make it througn the parts that drag and want to be entertained by the bits and pieces of 'fairytale', go see it.
Otherwise, wait for it to come out on DVD.
Re: re
Have you seen the previews for Brokeback Mountain? Jake Gyllenhall and Heath Ledger get it on!! My brother was grossed out when we saw the preview. I said, under my breath of course, "I thought it looked kinda hott."
I saw The Constant Gardener the other day. Such a great movie. Best I've seen in a while. Ralph Fiennes is a genius.
