Re: Sorceror's Stone?
I also saw somewhere that there is a cover for book 4 with a dragon breathing fire on it. I WANT THAT!!! It's cool! The cover we have here is okay, but I want that one more! *sniff*

Usually book covers are different in different countries, and titles can even change a bit, too. For example, I'm told in the UK, the title isn't "Harry Potter and...," but just "...." It's odd, but it's supposed to appeal to different cultures. People still don't realize that it's more important what's IN the book than what's ON it.

I hadn't noticed the bit with dollars. I'll have to go back and reread that, because Harry is SUPPOSED to be in England, so he better be using pounds!

Re: Sorceror's Stone?
In rereading bk. 4, noticed that they didn't specify the kind of money Mr. Weasley was using, although I don't know what kind of denominations they use in Britain. There was a ten and a five, I know that, but I'm assuming that's common in Britain.

Re: Sorceror's Stone?
I think that they said somewhere that they said "American money" someone already pointed that out in this book. I haven't been to Britian, but are there 5's and 10's in Brittish pounds?

Also, if this takes place in modern times, shouldn't that be using the euro?

Re: Sorceror's Stone?
The Harry Potter books in Canada & the UK are all pretty much exactly the same as the British versions. For some reason though, the hard-cover versions say "Sorcerors Stone" instead of Philosophers. That is pretty stupid to go to all that work and change the title for no reason!!!

Re: Sorceror's Stone?
actually they changed it because they thought that a 'big word' like 'philosopher's' would put off younger american readers...wusses!!

Re: Sorceror's Stone?
Willy pushed his sister Nell in the family drinking well.
She's still there, because it kilt her, now we have to use a filter!

Willy found some dynamite, didn't understand it quite.
curiosity seldom pays, it rained Willy seven days.
ha!
I went to the animal fair,
the birds and the beasts were there,
the big baboon by the light of the moon was combing his aburn hair.

...The wild boar roams through the black chaparral, it's a hell of a place he has for a hell;
the red pepper grows by the bank of the brook,
the mixicans use it in all that they cook.
Just dine with a greaser and then you will shout,
"I've got hell on the inside as well as with out!"

I think they changed it cause I thought Philospher( how do you spell it) was some type of proffessor of some sort.

Well, that is why they changed it.....for people who didn't know what it meant. :)

Re: Sorceror's Stone?
They may have changed it because of Britspeak...some words mean different things in Britain than they do here in the USA....Philosopher may be like that...

But, the Philosopher's Stone is not only from HP...and that is the real name for it.
