I prefer...
B'Elanna Torres/Harry Kim. I think there was a lot of potential between these 2 characters that wasn't explored on screen. I think it would have made for a much more dynamic pairing than B'Elanna Torres & Tom Paris turned out to be. We've ample evidence of a strong friendship between these 2 in episodes like "Caretaker," "Eye Of The Needle," "Favorite Son," & "Scorpion, Part II." I can picture B'Elanna responding to Harry Kim's sincerity in a more plausable way than she did to Tom Paris' sarcasm. And it would have been a fascinating growing experience for Harry Kim seeing how he handles an ongoing relationship with a woman that most outsiders would view as out of his league & over his head.

But Janeway/B'Elanna is more fun.:D

On T/K
Ironically if this HAD happened Kim might have been allowed some character development, while Tom Paris would have been used for the 'has sex with an alien chick and gets in trouble' episodes.

B'Elanna Torres with Tom Paris or Harry Kim
I think Tom Paris grew as a result of his relationship with B'Elanna Torres. I think Harry Kim would also have grown as a result of that relationship. However, I believe they would have developed in very different ways. Tom Paris' primary development is that he went from rogue ex-con to family man. I don't believe B'Elanna Torres in particular was an influence on that. It would have happened no matter what woman he ended up marrying. However, my theorized Harry Kim development would have dealt directly with B'Elanna Torres' personality. The point would have been to show how he maintained a relationship with a strong willed woman who essentially switched the traditional gender roles on him.

Re: On T/K
Of course if Tom had filled the 'sex with alien chick role' then he would have been in the grand trek tradition of stout white men with green babe appeal :evil

You're forgetting Bashir
He was Middle Eastern yet was in the token Trek womaniser role.

Re: Re You're forgetting Bashir.
Well the actor's English - I'm not sure where his character is meant to come from. I mean Picard was meant to be a Frenchman, but that didn't stop them casting an English actor.

But I guess what Odon meant was that he wasn't the usual muscular white guy (typically played by an American), who seem to think they're charming.

Dr. Bashir's lineage
And the actor who played Dr. Bashir's father in "Doctor Bashir I Presume" was Indian (with a British accent).

Fire, Earth, Wind and Water: Torres
Might-have-beens.... J/T. Oil burning on a cool pond. The water bubbling from the heat.
Torres with damned near anybody had the capacity to push my buttons. She was the one who would have added disaster and exquisite passion to anyone she f**ked. She might kill you, but you'd have known you'd met the very best in female.
Torres character was a multiplex character, and only part of her was Fire. Sex goddess.
The rest of her were the other three elementals.
Earth mother, the nuturing female. Rarely seen in VOY, but obviously there.
Air. Sometimes Hot Air, but ephemeral, subtle, impossible to grasp with the hands. You could touch her where it counted only if you dared use your soul as a grasping tool.
Water. The cool and calculating side to B'Elanna. The Dom. Yet the one who made it a point to make you grow.
Multiplex.
But Cthluthu help us, we saw most the Fire side. If there is any doubt that B'Elanna was potentially the hottest firecracker on VOYAGER, they have only to watch the way she strode across Engineering like a too-tightly wound mainspring ready to snap.
She could kill you if you went to bed with her. But what a way to die!

B'Elanna's sexual passion
^ Well put. It reminds me of a saying someone once coined on the TrekBBS ( www.trekbbs.com )-- "Sticks & stones will break my bones but sex with B'Elanna will kill me!":D

favourite NON T-7 pairing - J/7 of course
My favourite pairing other than T/7 would have to be J/7. Their relationship in the show was at times maternal but I think it really did have the potential to grow into something more. If Janeway had been a male you could bet your bottom dollar that the producers would have paired them up. The fact that Seven saw Janeway as a woman and not a Captain would have stirred the old girl. Chakotay only saw her as a Captain, except for that little stint on the planet when he didn’t have access to a holodeck for sexual gratification, the wooden boy got a bit antsy.

B’Elanna and Janeway, I can’t see that happening, they would clash too much, their personalities both strong in the same areas. Harry and B’Elanna well that would have been interesting, the growth in Harry probably would have overshadowed Janeway so that would have been a problem with the producers.

Neelix and Chakotay, now I’m losing my mind …. Tom and the Doctor, yep lost it :-)
