Re: Brian Kinney!!!!
Jell-o there. If I were to choose my FAVORITE character of QAF it would have to be Emmett. He is just so querky, and happy, but also really serious (such as the episode where Vick was being arrested for propositioning a police officer). I also really like Justin, he seems to be an inspiration to me (i'm about the same age) and he's really hot. I HATE Dr. David though, ahhh, he's such an ass. I can't believe Michael would ever fall for him. Oh well

Re: Brian Kinney!!!!
QAF - American version:
My favorite character is all of them!!! The one I would want to take home and ...... is Dr. David. I have had a thing for Chris Potter since his days in Kung Fu: The legend Continues. My debate with myself is: am I in love with the character or the person portraying the character? But then again all I know of him is the character he is portraying.
Brian Kinney - I could see myself being his Micky. Loving him from afar and always being there for him, hoping for some crumb of appreciation and/or love from him. Knowing that one day when we would be older and not as popular and I would be one of the few there to support him in his loneliness. I see all of the gang as aspects of himself that he will not acknowledge. Micky is his teenage friend, someone who will love and nurture him no matter what he says or does. Ted is his responsible self that will always make sure of hearth and home. Emmett is his public, in your face self. Who will say "I'm here and I'm QUEER and I'm proud to be myself and to hell with the rest of you." Lindsay is his connection to the morays of society and the way in which he was raised and the greater part of the society in which we live. She, like him sees into the hidden sides of self and she will not betray/destroy what he is, but she will not let him get away from that side of himself. Gus is his aspect of 'God creating LIFE'. That greater mystery that society says homosexual men will not/cannot/should not participate in. He now realizes that he has joined God in creating life and now he has a responsibility for this new creation. Sorry I must stop for supper. I will post more of my analyses of/ thoughts on the rest of the characters later. NINEBONE

Re: Dr Dave, without a doubt
I keep hoping that I will meet a Dr. Dave someday. As Emmet said, "It is every gay boys fantasy to be a kept boy." But I am also like Michael, I would like to contribute to the relationship more than just my presence. Looking at it from the standpoint of "American values", I should pay my own way. All that Michael appears to have invested in their relationship is his time, emotions and body. Should they ever part, Michael will have a tidy little monetary nest egg to fall back on. It is unusual for someone to say here is everything you ever wanted, you don't have to do anything but enjoy the experience. Looking again from the standpoint of "American values" if I haven't striven or worked for what I have, is it truly mine? It feels very one-sided. Now let's look at this from Dr. Dave's point of view. I have married a woman and fathered a son, of whom I am proud, the American ideal. I have had a lover and lived our life and his death. I am now successful, and wiser. I would like someone with which to share this time in my life. He doesn't need to do or want for anything. I am overflowing with abundance. I have a thing for Chris Potter. From his days on Silk Stalkings, which I have only seen an episode or two to his days on Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. I keep asking myself if I am in love with/lusting for the actor or the characters he is playing. But since it is only that aspect of himself that he portraying through the character I guess you could say it is for both that I am pining:)

Re: Brian Kinney!!!!
Have you ever had anyone come to you and say "I WANT YOU because you are you"? As Dr. Dave did to Michael!!! I have and it scared me shitless. The relationship turned my head and left me breathless. I wanted to run and hide. I couldn't believe that someone truly wanted me:D It turned my head. "Do you mean I am worthy of being loved?" Now don't get me wrong I am nice looking and have a good heart ( a Ted/Michael) but I am a Michael, always longing, lusting and loving from afar. Looking back there are things that I wish I could go back and change. Being older and wiser I cherish the experience that I had, inspite of the strum und drang that I put us both through. He died from complications due to AIDS. So yes I can see why Michael fell for Dr. Dave.

Re: I hate to be the black sheep here, but...
Ted! I too am like him. Do my job and fit the mold/everyone elses' expectations of me. But I am not quite as rigid/predictable in my daily routines as him. I too fear the s&m scene. My imagination shows the total loss/submersion of myself in the master/slave relationship. And the fear of trusting someone that completely having control over me and my responses. Will I come out of it the same person? Or will the changes be repugnenet to me? Will I recognise myself? Sometimes I have thought I would like to have a Ted in my life. Someone that is a solid bread winner, that I could come home to and talk about my day. Someone to share my life and times with, oh and not to forget the wild sex:lol But I also know that I would bring some of the element of surprise into our relationship. Like Ted, I have gone to bars and lusted/longed for Mr. Blonde Bombshell, Mr. Bod or the Italian Stallion and went home with the troll, my fat clone or rosey palm. I also have Emmett's experience of someone coming on to me that was hot and not knowing what to say or do and wound up with nothing. I haven't clued in that bars are for, as Brian would say "get in and get out, it is only sex."

Re: Who is your Favorite Character in the US Version?
I am also a straight female who is totally addicted to this show. I stumbled upon it a couple of months ago and have been busy catching up with all the reruns. I hate to admit it, but my love for this show is probably one of my 'guilty pleasures' that I keep to myself. I don't know many people that would share my feelings that it's one of the best written shows on TV. I love the characters, story lines, and let's face it.......gay or straight.....these men are HOT!

I have to say, Brian is definitely my favorite. His "young and hot forever" attitude - makes me weak in the knees. His 'front' of being non-caring/non-committal - while all along he DOES care and even though his actions go mis-understood, He does what's right.

Next to Brian, I just love Emmett. He cracks me up. Hard to pick from the rest, but I can say Dr. Dave was my LEAST favorite. And Michael.....well, also hard to believe he hit 30. Justin has more maturity and depth than Michael will ever show. The puppy dog thing doesn't cut it in my book.

Anyway.....just wanted to extend my praises for the show. Tonight's premier was excellent. I hope it goes on for many seasons to come.

Decisions decisions!!!!!!!
Ah...who is my favorite?? Hard to say!!!!

Truth be told, Emmett would have to be my fave.

However, Brian comes in a close second. Michael and Justin are a close third!!!!

And can you believe it?? I just so happened to order Showtime last Tuesday and managed to catch the marathon. I saw the first episode that evening and was HOOKED, so I'm technically a *fan in training*! :rollin

Re: Decisions decisions!!!!!!!
I got started on QaF last Sunday with the season1 cliffhanger, and then Tuesday through Saturday on Sho2 I got to see all of season1 episodes in order. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and booed, and i didn't want it to end. You mean to tell me that I will have to wait a week between each episode in season2! AARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! ;)
Now about my fave. The one that is growing on me is Emmett. My immediate reaction was that he was too nellie for my tastes. But as I watched him evolve on the show I have come to see the person behind the glitz and in your face persona.
Does anyone else think that Peter Paige also played Brent in the season2 opener?

Re: Who is your Favorite Character in the US Version?
Hm. Lot of straight women watching the show, huh? Guess I'm in an even bigger minority then, since I'm not straight... anyone know any other lesbians into QAF? Two of my friends that I told about the show recently say they don't ever watch it...

I thinkI identify with Justin most, even though age-wise I'm somewhere between Brian/Michael and ted.. mostly because he's an artist I suppose, also probably because he has a parent who's not accepting of his 'preference'.
I swear, watching him trying to grab that tennis ball, not able to close his fingers around it// I mean it's one thing to choose not todraw when you're able, but to be robbed of the ability? I don't know if I'd want to live, myself... though I am pertty muh as stubborn as Justin seems to be, I mean I kept working for close to a year with a debilitating back injury... but I wept when he got attacked, then wept more when he came out of it with the disability he carries... and when the judge passed 'sentence' on Chris? Oh, lordy....
I've got a protest idea -- paint the court steps with buckets of red paint, so they can see what Brian and Justin both can't stop seeing. Poor darling, when justin got a glimpse of the sauce on Debbie's shirt....

Re: Who is your Favorite Character in the US Version?
My all-time favourite character is Brian Kinney. I am a new initiate and just started watching the 2001 episodes in repeats on Showcase in Canada. I am addicted. I still haven't seen the last 5 episodes and am salivating. The last five are only being aired on latenight, so I'm planning on napping to make it through this work week.
Back to Brian. Gale Harold is the best piece of eye-candy that I've ever seen and I cannot keep myself from watching previously taped episodes just to catch another glimpse. As a straight female, I was introduced to the show by my Bi sister. While I tend to believe the show's a bit soap opera-ish, I still love watching it.
Thanks
Jenny

Re: Who is your Favorite Character in the US Version?
I am a straight woman, who LOVES this show. I never had showtime so when I first heard of this show, I never got to see it, but then it popped up in the video store so I got the first tape to try it out, and BOOM I was hooked. I agree with the comment above, gay or straight, these guys are totally HOT. On topic, my favorite one is Brian. I love that the writers and Gale Harold himself have done with him. On one hand making him so obnoxious and at times very mean, and at other times just looking him in the eyes and KNOWING he is feeling something deeper that he can't reveal. He's so likable which is hard to believe I think.

Well, Whisper don't feel bad, your not the only lesbian who loves the show to death. =)

My favorite character would with out a doubt be Brian, I am most like him. But, Justin is so cute. I love thier relationship, I just wish Brian would get over the "I can't let anyone get to close to me, cause I am afraid of love" (that feeling I know so well) and give him a real chance. Emmett is another one of my faves I like the drama queen personality he has. I don't like David though, the way he treated Michael like he was the age of his own son was sad, though Michael tends to have some really childish qualities about him. When David hit Brian I wanted to fly through the screen! ;)

I am a new fan of QAF and I have become addicted. I love the character of Brian. He is a no nonsense kind of guy. I understand that his character has softened a bit from the first season. I hope they don't ruin him by softening him anymore. I can't stand the Justin character. I can't stand babies who think we're suppose to like them because they are blond. I hope the recent development of Justin and Ethan remains. I want Brian to find someone who isn't nauseating.

Can the question be answered
Throw sexual preference to the street. I am a .. whatever the hell I am ... i love this show to death. I am from Australia, and the show "Queer as Folk" is unknown, on a channel noone watches unless its late and channel surfing. Thank god for poor commercial television.
This show is the best on air and the one of the many reasons it carries so well is the indepth characters. I think we all see a little of ourselves in maybe one or more characters, or we see something we wish we could be more. There is a lot more than meets first perceptions.. with these 'Gay' men.
Brian is the one i most connect to. The strength he tries to push, to show, when you can tell the guy is just as scared as everyone else. Perhaps Brian appears the tougher, ruder ( can you believe and remember Michaels birthday!!! ) but i think he carrys the show.. in respect to the fact he brings out the true characters, whether they are loyal, shy, young, open hearted.. whatever.

So much to say.. leave it open for you guys
