Re: Hahahaha
AOE is fiction. It isn't based on history at all.

Re: Hahahaha
Ummmm, actually, it is. If it isn't what do you say it is based on?

AoK isn't completely accurate of course, but the campaigns are based on historical events. And the civs and units are based on historical civs and historical military units.

Re: Hahahaha
Spiff here. The thing about history in games:

Who cares??

As long as it's fun, i really don't care if it's based on real history or not. That's my opinion. And, IMO, StarCraft is the funnest RPG ever, but EverQuest is the funnest game ever. :)

Oh, you can find me under all these names, so if you see a "Rocker For Christ", that's me, because that's for my own personal site, if you see a Council of Elrond MOD, that's me, and that's my name for the EverQuest guild me and my friend made. (remember Sir Suckup?? He only posted once.) Go check it out at:

Council Of Elrond

Oh, and we're not completely up yet, we're not exactly a guild-were still going under the planning stage.

Re: Hahahaha
I was only saying that is the reason I like AoK, of course a game doesn't have to be historically based to be fun. Thats all I was getting at....but whatever.

Re: Hahahaha
Name some of these campaigns that are supposedly based on historical events then. When I played it, I didn't notice it refering to any historical events...maybe because I didn't play far into the game (I didn't like it), but I would still like to know.

Re: Hahahaha
All of the campaigns have scenarios that are based on a historical occrence. Some of the scenarios didn't happen the way they are in the game or they are oversimplified. But they are in a logical order. The Joan of Arc campaign, for example, starts out with you guiding Joan to meet the Dauphan of France. I don't think this particular scenario happened (She did meet the Dauphan though, thats not the point), but it just a logical way to start the scenario and to provide further game customization and entertainment. The second or third scenario is the Siege of Orleans where you have to drive of the English. This scenario is oversimplified, but the siege of Orleans did happen as a historical event. I hope you get what I am saying. :) In summary, some scenrios are based on historical battles and invasions and some are just fillers that the game designers put in there for completenes and for the campaigns not to have big, illogical holes in them.

Re: Hahahaha
Yes, it is. Please name an RTS better than SC.

SC is better than AoK.
SC is better than the 3d RTS when it comes to gameplay.
SC is better than Red Alert 2.

Re: Hahahaha
I personally prefer RA2, although I love the RPG scenarios in SC.

RA2 is much better than Tiberian Sun. It uses an updated version of the TS engine, but it removes all the extra content that many think ruined the game's value. Instead, it adds some really cool units and the graphics are really nice still.

Also, RA2 allows many more "covert" operations that can suddenly wipe out an enemy who is looking somewhere other than their base, such as by using the Chrono gunners (or whatever they're called) which can pop up in the middle of your base and enough of them can do a LOT of damage before you notice.

Re: Hahahaha
The problem with AOE (a great game, don't get me wrong) is the same as the problem with TA. Too easy to defend, too hard to attack. These games are not balenced (I don't mean races, I mean game phase). In AOE the best defense is some walls and a bunch of castles. In StarCraft, the best defense is a good offense :)

Wow I think you nailed it shut
Way to go on all your comiting you really know your stuff about both SC and AoE. Even though you sided with SC I am gonna have to ask you something about you UI (user interface). Well you say that SC has infearer UI than AoE, but don't you think that micromanagment is part of the UI? And no offence towards anyone who love the game, but AoE's micro @#%$. Just a little comment for yall to chew on.
Oh yes and some Comments about Red Alert 2 from someone foolish enough to perchase it. It is one of the worste rts's ever. It is fun to lan with some freinds who have never played it before, and the animation is really great, but that game has some of the worste unit controle/win the game units ever. I don't really wanna get into it right now, but if you guys really wanna hear about it I can tell you some strats that'll win you the game in sec. Your poor oponrnt can't do anything about it either :( . Don't get me wrong I love winning, but there is no honor in some of the tactics of this game.
By the way just wanna say SC rules forever and always, and all that other madness. And Wanna say hey to all me boys I havn't seen or plaied with in so long.

Later my people's

Hey Lason, long time no see (check down the page a lil' and you'll see a message from corp.fox asking about where ya been...I forget the title though).

Well, I only played C&C:TS but it was sooo boring, the UI was also horrible (I didn't like C&C1's UI either). (And I've heard about the new units in RA2, dolhpins and stuff, IMO that sounds stupid, anyways :)

Master of Magic was my favorite strat game real-time or turn-based.

A pretty old game with bad graphics, but very fun.

RTS Factions:micro-management?
Reading this, I can see at least a couple of diferent criteria for 'best RTS'.

One school goes fro the rush, the action, the planning on the fly, the 'first casualty of any battle is the battle plan' -type chaos kind of enjoyment from having to react and act quickly. I would call myself a member of this school. I loathe micro-management. I was bored in AOE in its various incarnations. I got bored of civilization, thought it was neat for a while. Star Craft rules this style! I have a fondness for Majesty, too, though it is 'nice' and cartoonish compared to the 'edge' in SC.

The other school goes for something else. I have a friend who still plays out paper based wargames (re-enacting the Battle of the Bulge and all that) by himself! He loves meticulous strategy! He likes the fact that he needs to go into each city-state to manage wheat harvesting. He likes to plan waaaaay ahead and in excruciating detail. He likes to tweak games to make them 'more historical' with campaign editors. He destroys me due to my apparent lack of attention span in all of these types of games. He is in the 'other' school, that I don't understand, but respect. he also makes more money then me, so I guess that may help explain how all of these 'boring' games make so much.

You loathe micro, yet love Starcraft? How can that be? No offense, but you aren't very good at SC, are ya? :)

Ah, micro.. what a wonderful thing. Nothing else gives that feeling of defeating a 6 zergling rush with 1 marines, 1 bunker, and 10 scv's. :)

Well, I am not very good at SC, that is true. I beat the computer, but have hardly ever played against human opponents. I gave the game away before I found you guys!

But when I say I loath micro-managing, I am talking bout games that are much more in depth then SC. Sir Nukes, are you seriously saying that you micro manage as much in SC as someone could in, say AoE?

Sorry I took so long to reply. Just found this,
