"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought."
Legolas sighed and nodded. He would have to stay here, if she was not to know yet who he was. "Of course. I'll be here waiting. I wouold love to hear how it want." Legolas walked to the talan's enterance, and took her hand. "Good night..." And he kissed her hand. "My hear will sing the day we meet once more."
He smiled, and watched her leave sadly. Already he missed her. Walking back to the bed, Legolas sat down and stared at the floor. Like his mind was torn in so many directions..
'Let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow...an Elf.'
Re: Arrangement
Cosette walked to her father's home and got ready. Poke and proded until she looked presentable in a tight elven dress. Not to her liking, but to her mother's.
They were escorted to Thranduil's home. But upon arriving, they found the king pacing. He looked to them sadly.
I regret to say, my son cannot be found. He said regretfully. He's not come home yet from his walk this morning. I have sent out a few of my men. He does this sometimes. Legolas has to be reminded to follow the rules. This is important to him, doubt it not.
He smiled and nodded to them all. But inside, Thranduil was mad. Legolas was making him look bad. No matter. That boy would marry whether he wanted to or not.
Thranduil asked her mother and father to stay for a drink. Cosette had no interest of course, and found the night a waste. The Prince was beginning to sound very selfish -- like he did what he wanted, when he wanted, to who he wanted. Not her kind of guy.
A minion was asked to escort Cosette home. He was a close friend of the Prince's -- his name was Marius.
They walked and spoke; she laughing at a few jokes he made and coy little remarks. He was quite intregued by Cosette.
Once home, he nodded to her politely, and waited until she was safely inside.
The Next Morning,
Legolas returned home, in need of a change of clothing. It was early and Thranduil had not yet woken. Marius, however, was awake and saw Legolas wandering about in secret.
Are you in trouble.... He laughed, nudging Legolas slightly. Your father is about to burst, I swear.
The Prince merely shook his head and smiled. No matter. Good you didn't come last night -- for I met your future wife. A nice girl....I'm quite fond of her. And since you don't want marriage anyway, I figure, I'd help you out. Since I like Cosette, I'll begin to woo her -- she'll loose interest in you.
He smiled and sighed, leaning against the wall. You should've seen her Legolas. A fine girl. Different....yet quiet.
Re: Arrangement
Legoals galred at him. "You will do well to stay away from her. Don't woo her. Stay out of it." He growled out. Stuffing more clothes in the back, Legolas brushed past him, and out the door. Great. Now some elf was moving in on the girl he was falling in love with. Legolas made his way secretly back to the talan, and unpacked his clothes, still fuming at Marius. Lgolas had to tell her soon....now their marriage, and possible love was in danger.
Legolas did not want Cosette getting hurt in the end. He wanted her to trust and love him. Not Marius or 'Lasgalen', but the true Legolas.
'Let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow...an Elf.'
Re: Arrangement
Marius watched Legolas walk away hurtfully. Legolas!.... He called. But his friend did not turn. He wondered why he was suddenly so offended. Before, he didn't want anything to do with his arranged wife. He told Marius he would stay out of sight until it was off. What changed?
Meanwhile, Cosette woke up, fresh and ready to greet the day. Thoughts of Marius entered her mind and she smiled. He was very nice.
Putting on a plain dress, she left the house and headed towards Lasgalen's talan. Cosette had a book in hand; poetry and lore of Elves. One of her favorites. She looked up to the talan, yet wasn't sure if he was awake.
But a sight of golden hair caught her eye and she called him down. He came down smiling and they sat off the path; under the tree his talan was in.
They began to speak of last night. Cosette told him the prince didn't even bother to show up. It made him sound arrogant and uncaring. Yet she mentioned meeting a nice elf named Marius.
Re: Arrangement
Legolas frowned at the metion of Marius and sighed. "Cosette...We must speak." Legolas led her to a spot under a willow, and sat her down. Legolas could not stand it. He was getting more rumours about him, and false views. He could not stand it. He caved. Unable to bear it anymore.
"Cosette....The prince is not arrogant. He was not there for a reason. Because he was elsewhere. He was afraid to ruin a beginning friendship...with you." Legolas sighed and took her hand. "I am not Lasgalen...I said that to disguise myself...for if you knew who I really was...you would hate me.."
He let go of her hands, and looked down. "I am Legolas...and now you think me arrogant...and no doubt cruel and selfish. I am sorry...but please understand why I did not tell you first off. I wanted you to know me...for me. Not my title, nor the rumours. You see how words spread about me? I wanted to gain your trust and friendship...for I did not know you...nor you me. I wanted us to know each oher...before the marriage..I tried to put it off as long as I could...but the more we talked...I found myself coming to love you...though you may not feel the same for me. I was trying to achieve that..." He sighed and closed his eyes, awaiting the verbal bash that was going to come.

Re: Arrangement
Cosette stood; staggering a little to her feet. Your.....y-your Legolas?!... She repeated in disbelief. Prince of Mirkwood?!....Son of Thranduil?!....
His eyes avoiding her own, made Cosette realize this was not some joke. He really was Legolas. I-I can't believe.....you lied to me!..... She said, slightly angry. Here I was -- foolishly thinking you were merely some normal Elf! And elf who led a simple life and not one of prospect and formality.
Her mouth was open for a minute or two, trying to think of how to express herself. The foolish things she'd said to him -- her dreams and hopes. All of it, told to the prince himself. She was so embarrassed. Almost in tears, Cosette turned and began to run back through the wood.
How could she ever face him or anyone else again?! No doubt he thought her some silly girl with pathetic dreams, that he merely wanted to befriend so he could bed her.
Re: Arrangement"Cosette wait!" He stood quickly and ran after her. He would not loose her now. As he came up on her, he grabbed her arm, and turned her around to face. him. "Cosette listen to yourself! What does social status matter?! When you thought me a normal elf, who had a simple job, you called me your friend. Now that you know that I am the prince, you think me a arrogant elf?! Why do you make me have to personallites?! This is why I did not tell you who I was! Becasue you would do all the things you said you would. Fear me..run from me...never trust me."
His eyes were that of guilt and hurt. Hurt by her actions and words. Because of him being a prince, she abandon the things they had shared when she thought him Lasgalen. "Cosette...do you not see why I did this? I wanted you to trust me...to help the marriage out...but now because I am a prince, you want nothing to do with me. Gad I told you I was Legolas, you would have never given me a chance to try. Just becsaue I am a prince..does not me I am a rude, selfish, or arrogant brat. I am FAR from it."
Releasing her and unable to face her, Legolas turned and walked back to his talan. He did not want to show his face to anyone again. They judged him by his title..not who he really was. That was insulting. If Marius wanted her...and she him, he would not stop her. After all, he was a 'normal' elf. Enraged by the thought, Legolas stormed off down the road and pushed his way through the vines and low bracnhes.
'Let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow...an Elf.'
Re: Arrangement
Cosette watched Legolas go. If you wanted my trust, thou should hath told me the truth!! She yelled after him. Furious herself, she walked back towards her home -- yet stopped before the city borders, still within the wood.
It was then she began to cry. She'd just lost the only friend she thought she had. Cosette hoped she had found someone like her -- normal, no one special. She did not want to marry wealth and gain status. She wanted a simple life! Now, she was alone again. Not even a friend.
Save Marius. But she knew not whether his intentions were good or not. So there Cosette stayed for most of the day; weeping for the loss of a friend she thought she'd made. She clutched her book tightly to her chest. Books were all she had left....again.
Re: Arrangement
Meanwhile, Legoals threw a book into the wall and yelled in anger. He lost her. The LAST thing he wanted. But would she have given him a chance if she HAD told her? SHe wanted normal. What was he?! Alien?! That hit him deeper than anything. SHe thought all he wanted was to bed her. He wanted to love her. But she did not love him. Legolas doubt she would ever.
Legolas punched the wall, and his hand bled. He yelled in fustration again and slid down the wall. It was now he wished he was not a prince. Often he was treated differently because he was a prince...now it was happening again, and to the frist true friend he thought he had.
Legolas sat there in silence. Grieving for a loss, and yearning for a normal life.

Re: Arrangement
As the day grew into evening, Cosette wiped her tears and stood. Slowly and solomnly, she headed back to her home. Her mother was impatiently waiting -- ready with her formal dress and everything else.
She was pampered and dressed again -- with the dress that was too tight and suffocating. She was to meet the Prince tonight.
Thranduil, meanwhile, had sent out men looking for Legolas. Upon finding him, he was braught back to his home. His father instructed Legolas that he WAS going to meet her tonight.
Cosette, already dreading this, headed over to his home with her parents ahead. When they entered, all three were led into the dining room and seated.
The king and his son shall be with you shortly. The minion said, with a small bow. He left.
Soon after, both son and father entered. Legolas hand was wrapped and hidden from view, and his eyes stared at the ground as he took his seat. But the sound of his father cleaning his throat made Legolas looked up. "Legolas...this is Cosette. SHe is your bride to be..." Legolas looked at her briefly, and nodded. "Hello, Lady Cosette. Tis a pleasure to have you here..." ANd he truely meant it. This was going all wrong, and Legolas could not stand it.
"Father..I.-"
"Legolas...I think you much more important things here." Thranduil knew his son wanted to leave. He could tell.
Sighing, Legolas looked down at his plate, and when teh food was served, he denied. No hunger had he. He was not in a mood to eat...not after what happened.
'Let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow...an Elf.'
Re: Arrangement
Cosette looked at Legolas a few times during the meal, yet said nothing, and looked away just as quickly. She felt as though she would cry. There was this elf, whom she thought was someone else, and he turned out to be someone different!....Her only friend.
After a while, Cosette could not take it anymore. Without speaking a word -- merely sniffling to keep her tears back -- she stood and quickly left the room. She heard her mother calling her back sternly, but she didn't turn. Yet upon turning the corner in the hall, she bumped into Marius. He caught her, thankfully.
Re: Arrangement"Legolas..." His father said sternly.
Sighing, Legolas stood and walked after her. This was the worst thing that ever happened. He not only hurt the person he nevered wanted to, but he made her cry. Feeling bad, adn hoping to talk it over with her, he followed her, but stopped when he saw her with Marius. Marius. Feeling jealousy, and anger creep in, Legoals turned and walked outside.
He could not take it seeing her with someone else. Legolas sat outside on the steps and felt his heart chern and fall. He really did love this girl...but she did not love him...and not he had a feeling she loved Marius, and Marius loved her. TAHT much was obvious.

Re: ArrangementNo, no!.... She said, desperately, pulling from him. I'm all right...I-I just need some fresh air!.....
Cosette got out of his grasp and ran down the hall. Marius continued to call after her in worry. She looked behind her a few times, wondering if he was following. Yet it proved to be a large mistake.
Running down the steps and checking behind her, she did not see Legolas sitting there. She ran smack into him, and tumbled over him -- both falling and stumbling down the stairs. Upon reaching the ground, she let out a small cry, and laid on the ground in pain. Her shoulder had dislocated.
Cosette lay there, facing leaves on the ground, still not knowing whom she tripped over, and wept on the ground. This was not her day. She felt like fading or dying that moment.
Re: Arrangement
Legolas sat up and felt his head, groaning in pain. When both fell and tumbled down the stairs, a sharp rock cut his skin across the forehead. He felt the blood, but his eyes soon lay on Cosette, and he frowned. SHe was in pain. Standing. Legolas wlaked over to her and knelt beside her. "Cosette....are you alright?" But his answer came, as he saw her shoulder. it had been dislocated.
"Oh Cosette....forgive me..." Now he felt even more guilt. He had tripped her and now she was hurt. Legoals sat her up, and touched her arm. "I am sorry Cosette...but I have to pop your arm back into the socket...iit will hurt. If you feel the pain, you may release it on me." And taking a deep breath, Legolas pulled it forward, and when he heard the sickening pop of teh joint popping back in place, he let her go and hugged her.
"I am so sorry Cosette...I ruined your day...firgive me...I did not mean to hurt you at all...You were right. I should have told you. I was afraid that you would run from me..." Not thinking clearly, Legolas kissed her on teh cheek and looked at her with concerned eyes.
'Let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow...an Elf.'
Re: Arrangement
Cosette cried, for the popping of her shoulder had hurt an incredible amount. Feeling dizzier by the moment, her eyes closed as Legolas kissed her cheek comfortingly. Then, blackness. She passed out from the pain.
It felt like endless hours in the darkness. Until finally, her eyes opened. She was in a clean room. Fairly large, conformed to look the same. It took Cosette a moment to realize she was in the infirmary. Thranduil's home. Sitting up slightly, she looked around her. No one else was in the room, save her.
Turning, she winced and gave a small cry. Her shoulder still ached, though the pain had dulled. Cosette felt like a fool. She'd fallen over Legolas -- a clumsy elf! She cursed herself. Why do I not simply die now?!..... She thought.
Slowly, she eased herself out of the bed. Cosette wanted to find Legolas and apologize for her behavior last night, and her foolish actions.
Upon finding a nurse, she beckoned her to send for Legolas. Nodding, she did so. Cosette only had to wait a short while before Legolas came in.
M'lord, She said, nodding her head slightly. I apologize for my behavior last night. I was merely upset. I meant not to ruin the dinner. I also apologize for my foolish and clumsy actions -- I should have been more careful in where I was going.
Her eyes drew to his gash on his forhead. It had healed well, but there was still a small cut now. I have damaged the fair face of my Prince, and deserve not to ever look upon it again. Cosette's eyes began to well again. I'm sorry..... She stuttered. I need to go....
Cosette tried to be brave as she turned to head down the stairs and to the paths again -- but inside, she was heartbroken.
Re: Arrangement
This time, Legolas siezed her arm and pulled her closer to him. "Cosette...do not apologize. You do not have to. It was an acciddent, nothing you could control. I am sorry for the way I acted...and for lying to you. I didn't want to hurt you...I never have wnated to." He took her hands in hism, and kissed the knuckles, never taking his eyes from Cosette's.
"Cosette...I meant what I siad, when I was in love for you. Not for your body...but for who YOU are. Though you are timid, you are a lovely person, and only need to be shown the right way. Let me be that one to be by your side. I want us to be friends at least...if we cannot love." He intwined his fingers with hers.
"The most important thing now, is that YOU are all right. I care about you...I do. If I could be this...normal elf..I would. I cannot choose that I am a prince...and that means nothing to me. If I could, I'd change it...but that is out of my hands. Would you befriend the prince...and possibly love him, as he has come to love you..?" Daring it, Legolas leaned close to her, and kissed Cosette on the lips sweetly, and lightly, not sure how she would take it.

Re: Arrangement
Cosette moaned as he kissed her. She was about to pull back....yet didn't bring herself to. It was her first real kiss ever! Her eyes closed and she somewhat willingly leaned into it. As he pulled back, still inches from her, she let out a large breath. Oh.... Was all that was uttered from her lips in a mere whisper.
Their faces were inches apart, as Cosette was trying to get over what had just happened. My first real kiss.... She mumbled. Unconsciously, her hands drifted up -- her fingers trailing Legolas smooth throat, and the other around his chin and lips.
He closed his eyes, seemingly quite affected by her mere touch. Cosette was curious. How is it....that contact with another.....can feel this way?....Or make me feel.....
She didn't even know how to describe it. Everything was so new to Cosette; as if a door had been opened. Touching Legolas egnighted her, and left her wanting more. Her fingers and hands drifted around his lips, jaw and throat curiously like a child. Legolas didn't seem to mind, yet only become more aroused and infatuated.
Re: Arrangement
Legolas opened his eyes slowly, and his indigo eyes were dark with desire. "It is possible...to feel love for another...as I have you...perhaps that is what you feel Cosette...it makes you want to be with them more and more...I feel this way when I see you..." Legolas' hand drifted down to her waist, as he moved them both to the corner of the room, out of direct sight.
His lips brushed against her nose and cheek, before they met her lips again, but this this, the kiss was passionate and loving. More intense then before.
'Let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow...an Elf.'
Re: Arrangement
Cosette moaned again, as the kiss intensified, and she was pushed back against the wall gently to be held in place. She winced slightly as to her shoulder, but ignored it -- for this was so new. Exciting. Pulling back from the kiss, she ran her fingers over his lips and down his neck to his chest.
I-I have an overwhelming desire...for the touch of thine own smooth skin against my own..... She breathed out, still confused as to this feeling. Cosette wanted to run her hands all along Legolas' skin, for it was uplifting at the touch.
Yet something caused her to shy away for a moment, and blush extensively. She had a growing, throbbing desire in her womanhood. She thought this a mistake and something wrong. Her breath became shorter. Cosette was worried now Legolas would think her wicked for having such a feeling in such a place.
