"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought."
The guard drug Cosette back to Legolas' room, and the clamour made the prince wake instantly. "What-"
"We caught her trying to leave." And he threw her to the floor. "She devil, my lord. Should I teach her a lesson?" The guard asked.
"You have done enough damage, now leave!" And the prince's voice boomed as if thunder itself had joined in chorus. Legolas looked down at her in horror at what the guard did to her. Bowing, the guard rushed out and closed the door behind im. Legolas sighed and knelt down by her. "You cannot simply run out. Next time, they may take you to my father, Eru knows what he will do...I'll send for a nurse." And the prince rose to alarm a nurse to treat her wounds.

Cosette gave a small groan as her head went lopsided. He lip cut had reopened and was bleeding again. The bruise on her cheek now had a small cut in the center and was beginning to trickle some blood as well. Her eye was red, and her throat and shoulders had marks on them. She was too weak to even stay up on her own accord. The guard had beat her savagely.
Unable to keep her strength up, Cosette passed out from the pain.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Legolas looked down at her worriedly, and while waiting for the healer to come, he lifted her up and laid her down on his bed. His hadn brushed a few strands of her hair from her face watching her worriedly. "Tolo dan na ngalad..." He whispered in the elven tongue.
Hours went by since the healer had tendering her. Now finished, she was left in bandages, and Legolas had even dressed her in the white gowns. Now the prince say by her side, watching her with concern.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette slowly awoke from passing out. She was now on the bed. She felt a small bandage near the top of her head, another on her cheek, and her shoulder had a bandage on it. Her lips had stopped bleeding and was now a dried up cut on the left side.
Looking beside her she saw Legolas watching her. She was no doubt going to get some long lecture about how she should not try to run. Cosette would not listen. Her large brown eyes turned away from his blue ones. She braught her hand up to caress her lip wound gently. Cosette was getting disheartened, and feeling weaker each day. That was the third time she'd been beaten.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Legoals took her hand and held it. "Do not rub it, you'll make it worse. Here." And reaching to the bedside table. rubbing a bit of the balm on his fnger, he gently and tenderly rubbed it over the wound on her lip. "I am sorry this happened... I am sorry he did this to you..." Legolas was worried for her. He felt affectio towards her, but he could not reveal it, for she would only run more, and make herself worse.
Setting the jar down, he took her hands and rubbed them. "How are you feeling?" He asked with a soft voice.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette's eyes shifted to Legolas' hands as they rubbed her own softly. She kept her dark eyes on them. ....Fine...I-I'm fine... She said, shaking a bit. That guard certainly could've killed her had he not beaten her within an inch of her life. They probably knew now how much a woman could endure. How much could she endure?....How much longer could she take this?
The very thought made Cosette teary eyed again. Normally she did not cry this much. But the thought of being owned. Beaten frequently. Having to heal, only to get beaten again. The very pattern made her sick to her stomach. She began to cry, as she sunk down in the bed and curled up into a ball.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
The sight of her nearly broke his heart. His own eyes welled with unfallen tears as he rubbed her back. "As soon as you are well again...I will take you home...your home, and you will no longer have to think of being owned agaiin. No beatings...and you will not have to fear me every again.." He did not want to leave her, but she was unhappy, and Legolas wanted her happy. He wanted her safe.
Sighing he looked down and ran his fingers through his hair. How would he get her out of here without being punished hismelf? He could not. No more did he care. He would free here, even if it cost him his llife.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette wept still. You do not understand....I have no home....no where to go.....nothing left for me, but death and suffering.... She said bitterly through her tears as she huddled up further into a ball. She was still sniffling, and tears seemed to stream down her cheeks like endless rain. Her slight and once beautiful form was becoming frail and bruised. The fact she was now alone hurt her even more. Her mother, was gone. No sign of her. She had a sister, who was sold as she was last night.
Cosette did not even know where her own sister now was, nor her condition. Perhaps she had faded. Cosette could fade. It had never occured to her before.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Legoals frowned and shook his head. The thought of her fading would shatter his heart. "No...Please do not do that...You have no home...it seems I do not either. Might have been born in Mirkwood, but this is nt my home in truth..." He whispered as he sat down on the bed beside her. His hand still rubbed her back soothingly.
"Sometimes I wanted to fade too..but I didn't. I wanted to prove to them all that I am strong and no matter what they did to me, they could not break me. Do not let their beatings breat your soul...for what it's worth...I care about you greatly...and I do not think you of as a slave ot someone I own. I do not own you. I hop you would not think of me as your master..."

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette closed her eyes. She failed to see how someone in the family of nobility, could care so much. He was trying to gain her trust....for what? So he could leave her soon? Before she died? Before she was traded for another?....No. Cosette was herself alone.
I....don't...believe.... She began, but couldn't finish. She began to cry again as she coward away from his touch and caress. Legolas would be no different. Stumbling, she got up from the bed, and wobbled slightly.
Legolas frowned slightly. Legolas lifted her off of the ground and into his arms, then laid her down on the bed again. "Rest...please. Please believe me...I....I want to be your friend at least...then..maybe you'll have a home...And you will not be alone...and nor will I. I am too alone..for I do not have friends, only a brother and a father who boher did not want me here. My father tries to turn me like him...there is much more...but I will not trouble you with my stories, for I am sure you do not want to hear them.." And he kissed her forehead.
"Please don't fade...do not leave me here alone...." He whispered.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Without thinking of the dire consequences or tragic possibilities, Cosette gave in, and snuggled into his arms weeping and seeking comfort. Long since had she been without it, and she knew this would be one of the few times, before Legolas changed his mind or grew tired of her after a while.
She clung to the collar of his shirt, while she nuzzled her face into his warm soft chest and cried. Cosette couldn't remember ever weeping so much....or ever being so afraid.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Legolas' arms wrapped around her body and held her close to him. His hands rubbed her back soothingly. "Shh..." He cooed to her softly as he felt her tears stain his tunic. Her body felt so good against his, and he loved the feeling her her warmth. The elf pulled her into his lap and rocked her slowly, trying to comfort her and sooth the tears. "Cosette...you and I are not much different. I tell you the truth. To put it rightly..I should not even be here in this place, had it not been for the Queen.."
Closing his eyes, he continued to hold her strongly and tenderly. Perhaps she finally would open up to him.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette closed her eyes, mumbling things to herself of worry and fear. Trying to calm herself down within. She had to be strong. She could not let them know how much what they said and did hurt her. But oh, how she longed for this affection. But never would she admit it. Not yet. Legolas could turn on her at any moment, for she did not know him well. All she knew, was he was a noble. He baught her like all the others.
Yet beyond her control, Cosette fell asleep in his arms until the afternoon. Upon waking, she saw he too, had fallen asleep while holding her. Slowly, she slipped from his arms and walked into his bathing chambers. The afternoon sun was drizzling through the window.
She looked in the mirror. Her face. More bruises were beginning to show, and the cut on her lip was hidious to her eyes. Cosette hated herself.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Feeling the weigh of Cosette gone, sturred him and his eyes opened slowly, and he looked for her. He stood, now seeing it was late afternoon. Keen elven ears picked up movement in the bathing chambers, and that drove his direction. Bare feel made their way to the bathroom, and he now stood behind her. SHe was gazing in the mirror, and through that mirror they looked into each other's eyes. Legolas' hands now rested on her waist.
"Cosette...I need you to trust me. I need to trust you. I will not leave you here to wither. You know that my fatheris the king. But know this, I am not a noble, nor am I a prince. I will tell you when you open up to me. I will not hurt you..." And Legolas gently kissed her cheek lightly, being careful not to hurt her, or scare her.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette nodded slowly and gently took a step away from his arms. She did not want him fawning over her constantly, and getting more aroused. If he was going to take her, now was not the time, for she would only get more injured. But then again, Legolas didn't seem like the kind of elf who would take something that was not given.
Her brown eyes drifted to the window. May we go for a walk?.... She asked softly, her voice partched from crying and not speaking.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~"Yes. Stay close to me..I do not want you getting hurt again." He took her hand gently in his, and lead her to the door. Quickly he put his boots on and turned to her. "Cosette..I need you to stay close to me...I cannot risk you." And wrapping an arm around her waist, he lead her out and towards the gardens.

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette nodded slowly as they headed outside. The gardens were lovely, almost all in bloom and flourishing with color. It helped to lighten her mood, as she appreciated all of nature's gifts. Even a small smile formed on her lips as they walked. Red flowers were her favorite, as her eyes lingered on them the longest. She felt happier....at least moreso than she did before. She almost felt free again.
Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Legolas was nearby her side always, like a watcher for her. He smiled to see her so glad, but his smiled turned to a deep frowned as his brother came over. "Well well well, we have te little mutt and his woman. Touching. I pity the lady though, she cannot be with a REAL prince."
"Prince comes not by nobilty, but honour. You-"
"YOU are not of noble birth! You Bastard child." Orophin interrupted. He had said this on purpose. To humiliate him and get Cosette to come with him. "You are worthless, and not worthy of being wih her. Come my lady, I will show you the time a REAL prince is time. Not some mutt who is not even a prince or of noble blood." He spat.
Legolas frowned and his jaw tightened. "Go back to your room and leave. If you wnated her, you would have out bid me. Now GO."
He frowned and gave Legolas a shove before turning and leaving. "I hope to see you more, my lady."

Re: ~ The Punishments ~
Cosette listened but said nothing. She already did not like his brother, and rudely shouting such a thing lessened his appeal to her. But Legolas seemed embarrassed by the inbalance of his blood. Embarrassed that Orophin had said it. But why? She was nothing special herself, and she was looked down upon by others. She never looked down upon them.
As they continued walking, Cosette took Legolas' hand in her own and gave it a gentle squeeze of support. He did own her....at least she could be supportive. She didn't care about his bloodline. He was a prince, since Thranduil was king. Whether Orophin liked it or not.
