is it possible to earn good money as an artist
I always believed that given enough time and good marketing skills I could earn a decent living as an artist. In the last few weeks I've been told by well-meaning friends that I should never hope to make a real income off of my art. Maybe I'll make a little here and there but never enough to consider it a career. Am I living in a dreamworld thinking that someday I will be earning enough to live on?

Well, I don't know...
I'm one who listened to such talk, but over the last few years I've been seeing some things that have made me wonder.

A few things to consider:
Business and marketing courses, especially small business related courses.
Computer graphics courses.
See if there are lawyers specializing in copy write, intellectual properties and such. There are a couple here in New England, and several in New York City, that I know of vaguely.
Find a gallery that will work with you.

Good luck.
I'm still too chicken to take those steps, right now. One of these days, my argumentative relationship with the rat race will inspire me to take those steps yet...

Alec ,there are some pro artists in this group who do earn a living from their art but it a tough world out there and difficult to get a foothold but I never give up trying because who nows what is round the corner ,you could suddenly find your work being sort after, you just have to keep trying your best and not give up.Yes it is possible to earn a living from your art.

I'll tell you if I make it.
If I don't make it, I won't be able to afford a computer, so you won't hear from me :)

Well, if it doesn't work out, it's like an old hooker once said "It's not love if you're gettin' paid for it."

I'm just happy in the fact that we have been given the gift of seeing the world different from any others, as artists. I couldn't imagine anything else. :D

Ryan, You are right. I should take that advice myself and enjoy it just as a pleasure and not worry about if I'll ever be 'good' enough.:)
