more minimum weight issues
Am building VH commodore that was com cup car and are thinking of using an Ls1 with no modifications. The whole issue of min weights is weighing me down. As this engine is the same configuration, ie V8, does the min weight limit apply. The block has no modifications, the heads are standard and my interpretation of the rule is that the min weight does not apply. I know this is a hot little issue at the moment but please help me.
Also, the definition of "standard block and head" is very vague. Does this include camshaft, inlet/ exhaust manifold.
Could someone who has a standard headed and block FJ20 or SR20 in an old datto be able to help me with this issue?
Cheers

The Min weight rule only applies to Late Model vehicles (post 1986) so, by my reckoning, you should be able to run a VH at whatever weight you like.

Drew is right, VB-VK Commodores are classified as Early Model in the 3J rules and are thus exempt from weight limits.

Re: more minimum weight issues
If i was to be a LM the gen3 is from the same manufacture (rule 4.2i) but as the block and heads are alloy therefore the engine is not stardard equipment for that MODEL concerned(ruel 17.5)

If it was a vl to vs no gen3,vt could be gen3 or the old 5.0( with corret i.d plates),vx onward gen3 and before vl 5.0. On that note if its a vl you have to run the old pre efi heads unlees is a vl walkie.

I did have a production book and im sure some vk ran into 1986.I could not tell you if they were manufactured or just sold in 1986.

If you really wanted to run LM you could ask the power to bes about that one!!

And WELCOME!!!

Might be worth checking your floor pan hasnt had any serious modifications, as most Com Cups had Sport Sedan log books didnt they?

Yeah they do. But from what I recall, that wasn't cause there were that many floor pan modifications. It was a while since I looked into it, but there was some reason why they couldn't run as 3J cars. Suspension package or something.

Yeah, its logged as a sports sedan at moment, mainly because of there min weight, rear deck spoiler and being able to change sway bar mounting position on front struts. Suspension pick up points are the same though for other components. The floor in some com cup cars are cut and risen around the loction of the muffler.
