recommended power supply ?
Our local track is looking to replace the 3 6 volt battery setup it uses for its power and we would like to know what you guys with commercial tracks use or recommend. I would like to see general specs and where to find these units and how much we should expect to spend. I have been doing alot of searching but have only found 3 or so places that have them but don't know what we should be getting for amps. We need help!!! so any info. would be greatly appreciated. If you don't want to post stuff here you can email me at klavy69@hotmail.com with the subject 'power supply' so I know to open it if I don't recognize the sender. Thanx for any ones time who happens to reply. Todd

Re: Galinko Power Supplies
Thank you for your quick reply Mike. I went there and got a copy of the info and will bring it to the track tomorrow afternoon when the racemaster shows up. Any recommendations of which one to get? We race modified t-jets(anything goes except traction magnets),magnatraction RO without poly magnets, boxstock lifelike, superstock tyco, and boxstock patriot with laws.
Thanx again for the speedy reply

Re: recommended power supply ?
This outfit sells an inexpensive 20 VDC power supply producing just over 5 amperes. Powering each lane individually with one of these units works very well.
Re: recommended power supply ?
Personally, If the Batteries are in good shape, why change? We use the three 6 volt set up at our track with great success. Are you having trouble with the batteries??
Re: recommended power supply ?
Yes the batteries are toast! Only one will show a charge after an over night trickle charge. They are 2 years old and never really got any maintenance besides the occasional charge but now we can charge all night long the day before racing on thurs. night and by the time the first class is over so are the batteries and then the charger has to come on. Then its like a madhouse because the faster classes come next and by the time box stock lifelike is over there are broken cars and cars on the floor and everyone is rubbed wrong by someone t-boning someones elses car. We haven't even gotten to patriots yet but that is another story for the scrap pile! We have checked on Galinko power supplies and pry will start next season up with one of his. We pry have a month left of our bad weather and then its time for R/C season unless its raining so the owner wants to wait on it for now. His loss...bout half of the racers are dropping the faster classes since we can't get a steady power source. Thanx everyone for all the info given and if you have anything different from the other posts let me know so we can do some more studying. It's all appreciated greatly.

Re: recommended power supply ?
Yes, old worn out non serviced batteries will not work very well! If you use Golf Cart deep cycle batteries and keep them clean and serviced, they work very well! Do not use automotive type 6volt batteries as they will "dump" early with the low capacity level. I use three 6volt Shumacher battery trickle chargers that run during the races to keep the batteries even through three classes of racing a night. Due to the low charge voltage from the chargers and the huge capacity of the batteries, the a/c ripple is non existant. I have run this set up for 3yrs with no trouble with T-jets through polymer cars.
If you use Batteries or a Power supply make sure to use the right size wire! I've seen to many tracks with to small of wire and connections! 18 and 16 guage wire is not good enough! Make sure to use at least 13/12 guage stranded wire through out. This means every wire that you use to wire the track is a minimum 12/13 guage, not just to the batteries.
