singer looking for a songwriter in Chicago
I am a singer in Chicago. I am looking to collaborate with another musician--maybe a piano player, who can write songs, but doesn't find it easy to sing them. I don't mind doing covers, but my main interest is to work with an original songwriter who has something to say, and thinks that lyrics can be made or broken by the person singing/selling them. I was in a rock band a few years ago and have plenty of performing and studio experience. These days, I would like to sing songs that lean towards jazz or blues--slower ballads and torchy songs--but I am definitely not limited to that. Some of my musical influences include Anita O'Day, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Carol King, Billie Holliday, Mick Jagger, Ray Davies, June Christie, Peggy Lee, Lou Reed and Ella Fitzgerald. I would love for this to be more than a hobby, and it'd be great to play out asap. Anybody out there interested in collaborating?
I am a song composer, and I'm definitely up for having other people perform my material. My e-mail is arlaur@uchicago.edu

sounds good
Hi there--
I haven't checked this board in a while. I am still interested in singing jazz. I havea lot of questions though. What instrument do you play? What kind of stuff do you write? Is it in the way of torch, contemporary, classic stuff, etc...? And you are in Chicago, right? If you want, you can e-mail me at sonia@eslchicago.com. I check my e-mail all the time. Hope to hear from you.
